Introduction
The Black Vox Air Freshener is a Professional Covert Audio recording device
designed for deployment anywhere an air freshener would be. Built
specifically for long term deployments, the device has a recording time of
up to 220 hours and a standby time of over 12 months. Its highly sensitive
microphone allows for it to be easily hidden in plain sight and capture
all important conversations.
Charging the Unit
Make sure the unit is turned off before charging
You can charge the unit by plugging the 2.5mm cable (provided) into the
port on the base of the unit and the other end can be plugged into a PC,
Laptop, or a USB wall charger. While charging, a solid red light should be
visible via the windows at the side of the unit (as shown below). A full
charge should take around 6 hours. Once complete, the red light will start
to flash.

and then to the power
source. This prevents
shorting the unit out.
To use the air freshener,
apply several drops of
the air freshener oil
to the diffuser pad.
Please Note: Do not over-apply the oil as it can damage the
recorder. Wipe up any excess oil before closing the cover.

Operation
Once the device is fully charged, it is ready for deployment. To prepare the device for
deployment, simply press the power switch (see below images). A few seconds after
pressing the button, a solid red light will be displayed for 5 seconds to notify you that
the device has begun recording. While in recording mode, the device will only record
when it detects sound and stop recording when no sound can be detected. Each new
recording will be stored as a separate file.
Reviewing the Audio
Once you have finished recording the desired audio, you will want to play back the files.
To do this, turn off the Black Vox and connect it to a computer using the included USB
cable (if the device is left on, it will not show up on your computer). At this point, a new
drive should open up on your computer. Open the VOICE folder which contains all of
your recorded files taken during the deployment of the device. As with any normal file,
you can choose to move it, copy it or delete it in the normal fashion. Please note that
Mac users must empty the Trash while the unit is plugged in to actually delete the files
from the device. It is advised that you wipe the unit’s memory as often as possible.
This is due to the fact that the device records high quality footage that can quickly
fill up the units memory causing the device to stop recording.
The device has a sensitive microphone which allows for it to be placed in numerous
places. The device was specifically built for deployment in plain sight and includes air
freshener oil and a diffuser pad so it actually smells like a real air freshener. Black Vox
Air Fresher can be placed within 33 feet (10 meters) of its target. It will record sounds
with crystal clear clarity when sound is detected.
Pro Tip: If the light blinks
instead of turning solid
after you turn the unit on,
the battery is not fully
charged.

Setting the Time Stamp
The Black Vox Air Freshener allows you to change the time stamp on the
recordings. This allows the user to know when each recording took place
by looking at the Date Modified on each MP3 file created.
To set the time on your Black Vox to the same time as your Windows
computer, plug the Black Vox into a USB port. This should open a window.
Open the Time Setup.exe file by double-clicking it. This will open the
program shown below. Click the “Start” button and close the program.
Your Black Vox time stamp will now match your computer time.

Mode (Record Quality)
XHQ = Super High Quality
HQ = High Quality
Note - XHQ requires more storage
space per hour of recording so your
total recording time stored will be
reduced.
SVOS Level
+2 = Most Sensitive
+1 = More Sensitive
0 = Default Sensitivity
-1 = Less Sensitive
-2 = Least Sensitive
More sensitive requires quieter sound
to activate and less sensitive requires
louder sound to activate.
Please Note: If the Black Vox battery is totally drained, you will need to reset the time stamp.
Please Note: The Date modified is the time the recording stopped. To determine when it started,
you can subtract the length of the recording from the Date modified.
