MONOCRYSTALLINE SOLAR BLANKETS
REDARC Solar Blankets are designed to provide high efficiency in a robust, flexible construction.
They are constructed using heavy duty canvas and robust materials making them suitable for off–road
and outback conditions.
WARNING AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
INST129-4-EN
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS — THIS MANUAL
CONTAINS IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR
REDARC SOLAR BLANKETS.
DO NOT operate Solar Blankets UNLESS YOU HAVE READ
AND UNDERSTOOD THIS MANUAL and the Blanket is installed
as per these installation instructions. REDARC recommends
that the Blanket be installed by a suitably qualified person.
WARNING
RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES:
Working in vicinity of a Lead-Acid battery is dangerous.
Batteries generate explosive gases during normal operation.
For this reason, it is of utmost importance that you follow the
instructions when installing and using the Solar Blanket.
WARNING: Check the manufacturer’s data for your battery
and ensure that the maximum voltage of the profile you select
does not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended maximum
charging voltage. If the maximum voltage is too high for your
battery type, please select another charging profile.
RISK OF DAMAGE AND INJURY FROM IMPROPERLY
SECURED BLANKETS:
Solar Blankets mounted to all types of vehicles, including
but not limited to, 4×4 Vehicles, RVs, Caravans, etc. are
subject to high wind and vibration forces when driving. The
instructions provided in this manual are just intended as a
guide. Solar Blankets must be securely attached to the vehicle
in accordance with all local and national safety standards. In
addition, the solar mount manufactures' instructions must
be adhered to or may be required to be exceeded to comply
with local and national standards. It is recommended that a
suitably qualified installer be used.
CAUTION
1. This appliance is not intended for use by persons
(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or
mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,
unless they are supervised or have been instructed on
how to use the appliance by a person responsible for their
safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they
do not play with the appliance.
2. Do NOT connect the Solar Blanket directly to a Battery. A
Solar Regulator must be used between the Solar Blanket
and the Battery.
3. Only use the Solar Blanket for charging Lead Acid,
Gel, Calcium content, AGM or Lithium Iron Phosphate
batteries using a Solar Regulator suitable for the Battery’s
chemistry.
4. The Battery should be mounted in a well ventilated area,
as far as possible from any ignition sources. NEVER
smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of battery
or engine. This may cause the battery to explode.
5. An unconnected Blanket exposed to light may generate
voltages up to their rated open-circuit voltage on their
leads. Completely cover all Blankets with an opaque
material during installation, and when connecting or
disconnecting conductors to reduce the chance of an
electrical spark.
6. The Solar Blanket will achieve best results when proper
battery maintenance is regularly performed. This includes
but is not limited to checking water and specific gravity
levels of the battery.
7. Do not use mirrors or other devices to artificially
concentrate sunlight on the Blanket.
8. All Blankets used in series, parallel, or series-parallel
should be positioned to receive identical amounts of light
to reduce risk of Blanket damage.
9. Partially shaded or partially obscured Solar Blankets will
have reduced output, and can potentially damage the
Solar Blanket.
PERSONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
10. To assist with the safe operation and use of the Solar
Blanket when connected (via a Regulator) to the battery:
a) Wear complete eye protection and clothing protection.
Avoid touching eyes while working near a battery.
b) If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, remove
the affected clothing and wash the affected area of
your skin immediately with soap and water. If battery
acid enters your eye, immediately flood the eye with
running cold water for at least 10 minutes and seek
medical assistance immediately.

6 SOLAR OPTIMISATION
6.1 Angle to the Sun
REDARC Solar Blankets will perform at their peak with the Blanket face angled directly towards the sun.
However, in practice this is not always achievable. REDARC recommends having the Solar Blanket/s
angled between 20° and 40° from the ground. This will ensure the best total output from your Blanket
across the course of the day, no matter what season.
Angle to sun between
20° and 40°
GROUND
In the southern hemisphere, the sun is always in the NORTHERN half of the sky. As such facing your
Blanket NORTH ensures the best angle to the sun for a Solar Blanket across the course of the day. In the
northern hemisphere, the sun is always in the SOUTHERN half of the sky. As such facing your Blanket
SOUTH ensures the best angle to the sun for a Solar Blanket across the course of the day.

8 MONOCRYSTALLINE SOLAR BLANKET INSTALLATION GUIDE
8.1 Connecting the Solar Blanket
• Take care when connecting and disconnecting the Anderson™plug to avoid damage
to the cable and junction box.
• Always pull from the connectors and not from the cable.
Pull from
to disconnect
connectors
8.2 Using the Solar Blanket
• While in use, place the wrap around velcro sleeve behind the Blanket.
• REDARC Solar Blankets are UV stabilised, however, the high level of UV exposure will still lead to some
degradation of product appearance after extended use.
• Do not walk on the Solar Blanket.
• Not recommended to use in the rain.
• Not recommended for use when subjected to salt spray conditions.
8.3 Cleaning the Solar Blanket
• Prevent scratches and increase charging performance by keeping the solar
Blanket free from dust, dirt or sand.
• Allow your Blanket to cool before cleaning.
• Do not use any chemical cleaning agents as it may damage the solar cell surface and degrade
performance.
• Carefully remove dust or dirt using a sponge or damp clean chamois and dry with a
soft micro fibre cloth.
8.4 Storing the Solar Blanket
• Allow your Solar Blanket to dry before folding away to prevent the likelihood of corrosion.
• Store your Solar Blanket in a dry, cool place.
• Take care to store your Blanket securely to prevent damage during transit.

8 MONOCRYSTALLINE SOLAR BLANKET INSTALLATION GUIDE
WARNING
RISK OF DAMAGE AND INJURY FROM IMPROPERLY SECURED BLANKETS:
Solar Blankets mounted to all types of vehicles, including but not limited to, 4×4 Vehicles, RVs, Caravans,
etc. are subject to high wind and vibration forces when driving. The instructions provided in this manual
are just intended as a guide. Solar Blankets must be securely attached to the vehicle in accordance
with all local and national safety standards. In addition, the solar mount manufactures' instructions
must be adhered to or may be required to be exceeded to comply with local and national standards. It is
recommended that a suitably qualified installer be used.
REDARC Monocrystalline Solar Blankets features reinforced eyelets at the four corners and sides of the
Blanket to allow for various mounting options. These Blankets can also be setup across your vehicle,
caravan or tent and can be used to provide shade as well as performing their power generating function.
When Blankets are subjected to airflow from underneath this provides the most efficient result when used
as a source of shade.
8.5 Fuse Protection
Fuse protection is required for wire and component protection in case of short circuit. Fuses are to be
fitted as close as possible to the battery positive terminal.
REDARC recommend using MIDI style bolt down fuses as they ensure a low resistance connection. The
REDARC FK40 and FK60 fuse kits are recommended.
Blade type fuses are not recommended as they can result in high resistance connection
which causes excess heat and may damage the fuse holder and/or the wiring. Self–resetting circuit
breakers are not recommended as they may trip prematurely due to the heat generated by the current
flowing through the wires.
