NOTE: Most CDRom drives can be used in a RGCD2 & CD5ENR
but before buying/installing a different drive, check that it has a
“Digital Out” connector on the rear, and a “Play” button. If all else
fails, a standard CD Player can be connected to supply thetrans-
port and digital stream for the DAC.
To Remove the CDROM drive:-
1/ Turn off the power and remove the power cord.
2/ Turn the RGCD2 or CD5ENR upside down, holding the front panel firmly
closed.
3/ Loosen the 4 clamping screws by rotating them 3 or 4 turns - do this
CAREFULLY as this will release the CDROM drive and it can now slip out if
tilted!
4/ Holding the REDGUM wood front panel firmly closed, turn the RGCD2 or
CD5ENR right side up. Now open the front panel.
5/ With one hand underneath it, carefully slide out the CDROM drive to-
wards you - it will come forward approximately 20cm and separate from the
case with 2 leads attached.
6/ Remove the 4-wire power connector from the left-hand rear side of the
CDROM drive.
7/ Remove the digital cable from the right-hand rear side of the CDROM
drive.
To install a New CDRom drive:-
1/ Locate the thin round cable with the small 2 pin socket (Digital cable)
and install onto the digital connector on the CDROM. (The thicker earth side
wire must connect to “G”.).
2/ Locate the larger power connector and install into power socket. (It will
only go in one way).
3/ Slide the CDROM drive fully back into the case.
4/ Carefully turn the RGCD2 or CD5ENR upside down - watch that the
CDROM drive does not slide out onto wood panel!
5/ Tighten the 4 clamping screws - just firmly will do.
6/ Carefully turn the RGCD2 or CD5ENR right side up, reconnect the power
cord and test play.
If it does not work after a new drive is in-
stalled:-
If the “busy” light is not working: there is a problem with the power connec-
tor of the drive.

Hookup of RGCD2 & CD5 DAC/CD
Player
Connect a high-quality Twin RCA lead from the 2Line Out
sockets (Left Out - Right Out) on the rear of the RGCD2 &
CD5ENR models to the CD inputs of your amplifier. (Any high-
level inputs, except Phono sockets, are suitable to use.)
You will require an IEC power cord to connect the RGCD2 or
CD5 to your mains power supply. There is a power on/off
switch on the left side of the front metal panel, behind the
fold-down wood front panel. As soon as power is applied, the
DAC/CD is ready to operate.
The front panel of this factory-fitted CDROM drive has 4 but-
tons on the lower right-hand side. These allow you to use the
RGCD2 & CD5 without a remote control. (The instructions
for the optional use of the remote control are overleaf.)
To insert or remove a CD: press the right-hand button to
“OPEN/CLOSE” the tray.
To choose a track: after inserting a CD and the green light
has stopped flashing (about 6 seconds), press the “PLAY/
SKIP” button (second from the right). For example, to play
track 3, press the “Play/Skip” button three times. To con-
tinue on to a later track (“SKIP”), press the button again till
you reach the number of the required track.
To return to an earlier track: press the “PREVIOUS” button
(second from the left) the required number of times ie. the
reverse of the “Skip” function.
The button marked “Mode” on the left-hand side will toggle
the CD into REPEATmode. Press this button whilst the CD is
playing and the indicator colour will turn from green to
orange. The orange colour indicates the CD will repeat in-
stead of stopping at the last track.
(If the tray is left in the “out” position for a length of time, it will
automatically close to help prevent accidental damage.)
The optional remote control allows remote control of
the most usual features.
The top 6 orange buttons act as follows:
Left hand top button ( II ) is PAUSE, press once to
activate, press again to release.
Middle top button ( ??I ) is the PLAY button (if CD is
not currently playing) or, if track if currently playing, to
select NEXT track.
Top right button ( ??) is STOP, OPEN and CLOSE.
Bottom left button ( ?? ) is FAST SKIM BACK-
WARDS.
Bottom middle button ( I?) is play PREVIOUS track.
Bottom right button ( ?? ) is FAST SKIM FOR-
WARDS.
The remote control also has DIRECT TRACK ACCESS.
To go directly to track 7 - just press 7. To access any
track above track 9, (eg. track 24), press SHIFT, the
number (eg.2,4), ENTER.
To operate the REPEAT mode, press the silver button
on the lower right corner, ( ?) of the remote. The
indicator light on the CD Rom drive will change from
green (play mode) to orange (repeat mode). Press
again to cancel the repeat mode - the light will revert
to green.
There may be other features as yet undiscovered! Feel
free to experiment. If the CD player appears to jam or
lock, switch off the power for a few seconds to reset
the controller.
If the remote control becomes lost - a replacement
can be ordered from any good computer shop.
The control is called a CREATIVE InfraRed controller.
