I.1 DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE
UTNC-EV is a Bo x-t ype air ha ndling t ermin al unit , t o be inst alled i n f alse
ceilings, with air flow and return directlyinto the room.
I.1.1 DECLARED CONDI TIONS OF USE
UTNC-EV is a fan coil int ende d f or the tre at ment o f air (summer a nd
wint er air-conditi oning) inside building s us ed f or domestic or si milar
purpos es. T he unit is no t d esig ned for ins tallation in rooms us ed for
laun dry purposes (IEC EN 60 335- 2-40 Standard).
The units comply with the following Directives:
- M achiner y Dir ecti ve 20 06/ 42/ EC (M D);
- Lo w V oltag e D ir ecti ve 20 06 /95 /EC ( LVD);
- Electromagnetic CompatibilityDirective 2004/108/EC (EMC);

The mach ine is designed for indoor installation
only, for use in domestic or similar environments.

water softener.

I.3.1 PROLONGED SHUTDOWN

If the unit is not used during the winter period, the
wat er cont ained in t he s yst em ma y freez e.
If th e mac hine is goi ng to be out of use for long perio ds of ti me, it is
necess ary to disco nn ect t he unit from the mains b y discon nec ting th e
main switch, fitted by the installer.
If th e unit is not use d during th e wint er perio d, t he water c ontaine d in
the s ys te m may fr eeze. To preve nt this, all the water co ntain ed in t he
circuit must b e emptied before th e onset of win ter. Altern ati vel y, a
suitabl e q ua ntity of a nti-freez e liq uid should be mi xed wit h th e water.
I.3.2 START-UP AF TER PROLONGED SHUTDOWN

The air fi lter i s mad e of a cr yl ic fibr e, whi ch can be
washed with wat er.
The electrostatic activated carbon filters (with
whi ch the unit m ayb e equipped) cannot be wash ed
and must be replaced.

The condensate drain pipe of the inner unit mu st be
extended with a PVC pipe of an internal Ø 16 mm
(not supplied), long enough for the installation in
question and therm all y insul ated.
The unit is not designed to be installed in rooms
used for laundry purposes (IEC EN 60335-2-40).
Follow the indications b elo wfor the in stallation procedure:
Install t he unit in a possibl y central positio n o f the room. The air flo w
direction c an be adjust ed by manuall y moving t he vents acc ording to
the func tioni ng mode (c ooling or heating ). This optimis es the air
distributio n in the roo m.
When f uncti oning in c ooling mode, th e o ptimal position (2) of the vents
is that which blows the air towards the ceiling by Coanda effect. In
hea ting mode , t he vents (1) direct th e air t owar ds t he floor t o pre ve nt
stratification of hot air in the upper part of the room

II.2.5.5 Assembly of the motorised electrothermal
valve
The unit c ontrol circuit onl y allo ws opening of th e mot orized valve when
the fan motor is working.
When a lo wer t em pera tur e is r eq uir ed b y th e t her most ats, the outlet V
and H (termin al bl oc ks) is powered at 23 0V and the c orresponding
chilled wat er or hot water valve is energized.
ATTENTION !
The pump control circuit stops water supply to the
cold v alv e if an irregul ar in cre as e of t he cond ensat e
water level is detected into the drain pan.
If a n irregular increas e of th e c ondens ate wat er level is det ecte d into

When c onnecting t he s te el pipes o f the s yst em, e nsure th ese are
alig ned a nd sup port ed s o as not t o exert a bn ormal force on th e u nit.
When the system is filled with water, verify the tightness of all the
fittings. If the KVA accessor yis pr esent, install the auxiliar y tray below
the val ve unit, inserting t he drain pip e int o t he rel ati ve hole; level and
fasten it to the previously ass embled clip with the three screws
supplie d. I nsul ate th e t hree screws and t he l ower b order o f t he tr ay with
insulating material.
NOTE:
The tig ht ness eff icien c y of t he v alv e unit is f a ct or y-
t ested. An y lea ks in t he s yst em a re th er ef ore due t o
an incorr ect in stall ation.
Cover th e val ve with t he shell (b), bloc king it wit h th e cla mps (e) a nd
ensure th at all th e cold p arts are insula te d.
Fit the act uator on the val ve b od y, rou te t he val ve c abl e thr ough t he box
and connec t it t o the t ermi nal bl oc k as shown in fig. To connect t he
steel pipes to the s ystem, ens ure t he y are aligned and supported to
avoid excess s train on the unit. I f th e s yst em is filled wit h wat er, chec k
all fitting seals. Aft er ending t he hydraulic connec tions , make sure ther e
are n o leaks Ins ulate t he val ve using th e shell, fi x it b y means of t he
clips and make sure tha t all c old parts are ins ulated. F or 4-pipe hot
wat er, re peat all t he operatio ns with g as a dap tors, as p er th e t able.

II.2.5.7 Functioning of the motorised electrothermal
valve
This 2- 3- way valve is of the OPEN/CLOSE type with ver y slow travel.
It is not a modulating val ve so it has no PTC.T his valve is driven, as a
sensible eleme nt, b y t he a mbie nt t her most at of t he “ c assett e” u nit.
The 2- wa y val ve is nor mall y clos ed t o t he coil with no power ed actuator
side. The 3-way val ve is nor mall y clos ed to the coil with no powered
actuator sid e while is open to th e b ypass wa y side . When t he room
tem pera ture do es n ot s atisf y t he th ermos tat , the valve ope ns a fter
about 3 minut es about to allo w wat er to circul ate i n t he c oil.
If th e r oom te mperatur e satisfi es t he ther most at or if t he electric power
has bee n s witch ed off , t he valve is clos ed aft er a bout 3 min ut es to wards
the c oil and is opened t o wards the b ypass.

In an emergen cy, the valve can be opened m anually
by loosen ing the nut and removing the electric
act uat or. On ce the eme rgen c y i s re solv ed,
rememb er to re store t he aut omat ic f unction of t he
valve b yre-positioning the electric actuator. Failure
to do so can cau se condensation due to the
pass age of wat er, ev en if not po wer ed.
II.2.5.8 Instructions to be followed if valves
supplied by the installer are used
W ater connections
Use flat-end val ves with a 40 mm int eraxis f or sizes 26-41-51 an d a 74
mm inter axis for sizes 61- 86-111.
Install t he val ves following th e manuf actur er instructio ns; refer t o t he
relative fig ures f or the c onn ectio ns t o t he unit.
Carefull y insul ate th e pi pes, the val ve units a nd th e coil fitti ng s (cold
wat er side) s o as to pre vent the condens ation th at c an form on them
from dripping on to the false ceiling.
When the system is filled with water, verify the tightness of all the
fittings.
RHOSS S.p.A. cannot guarantee tightness
efficiency of the valve units supplied b ythe installer
as the se are no t f a ctor y- test ed. Th eref ore , t he
Company sha ll not be h eld li able for an y
malfunctioning valve unit and damage cau sed b y
dripping.

In this case the chilled water val ve must be piloted bythe 230V ON-
OFF sig nal from clamp V, a nd th e h ot water val ve from cla mp H.

If a room co ntrol listed in the acc essories t abl e is us ed, follow t he
instructions in the previous paragraph, installing two 230V relays to

II.2.5.9 Anti-freezing protection
IMPORTANT !
When the unit is out of service, dr ain all the water
from the circu it.
IMPORTANT !
Mixing the wat er with glycol modifies the
performance of the unit. Pay attention to the safet y
instructions on the p ackage regard ing gl ycol.
If the unit is not used during the winter perio d, t he water c ont ained in
the s ys tem ma y fr eeze. To prevent this, all the water contained in t he
circuit must be emptied before the onset of winter. However, if the
operation of draining t he s ystem s eems t oo laborious, a suit able
quantit y of anti-freez e liquid c an be mi xed with the wat er instead.
If the s ystem needs to be empti ed, remember that a water head always
remains int o the c oil and it may freez e in c ase temperature g oes bel ow
0° t hus c ausing the heat exchanger failur e. The heat e xc hanger can be
totall y emptied by openi ng the val ves and bl owi ng in air in eac h val ve
for 90 sec onds at a mini mu m press ure of 6 bar.
II.2.6 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
IMPORTANT !
The electrical connection of the unit must be
carried out b yqualified p ersonnel, in complian ce
with the regulation s applicabl e in the countr y wh ere
the unit is in stalled. RHOSS S.p. A. shall not be held
liable for damag e to persons or prop ert ycaused b y
a non-compliant electrical connection.
DANGER !
Always install a general automatic swit ch in a
protected ar ea n ear the machine, which h as a
characteristic d elayed curve, sufficient capacit y and
breaking po wer. There must be a min imum dist ance
of 3 mm bet ween the contacts.
An earth connection is compulsor y b y law to
ensure u ser saf et y while the m achin e is in u se.
Chec k t hat the volt ag e and the frequenc y of t he electrical s yst em
correspo nd t o 230V (± 10%) single phas e at 50 Hz (±7% in c ase of units
with electric resi st anc e); that the available installed power is s ufficient
for running the equipment and that the suppl ycables are of adequate
section for t he maximu m c urrent r equired.
Make sure that t he electrical s up ply s ystem c omplies with c urrent
natio nal s afet y regulati ons.
The connections must be impl emented in accordance wit h the diagrams
supplied with the machi ne. Use a H05VV-F-type, flexibl e, double-
insulated, bipolar + earth c able wit h a 1.5 mm² s ection to connec t the
unit to t he mai ns (2,5 mm² in case of electrical heater).
IMPORTANT: the unit with the electric heater is equipped with t wo
thermostats; one with aut omatic rearm and one with manual rearm that
can be reacti vated. Il riscaldatore elettrico è installato esclusi vamente in
fabbrica. E’ assolutamente vi etato l’uso suppl ementare di altri
riscaldatori montati i n loco. L’inosser vanza di ques ta norma c ausa il
danneggiamento dell’unità e c omport a l’immedi ato annullamento della
garanzia. Th e electric heat er is fac tor y installed. The us e of ot her
electric heaters is absolutely prohibited. F ailure to follow this s afety
requirement causes unit damage and voids t he warranty.
