Introduction
The M – Brand range of Rise & Recline chairs from Z-Tec are designed
to offer comfort and style whilst improving your Mobility.
The Elba and Capri chairs are available in different materials and colours
to suit your requirements or surrounding décor.
The range are designed to accommodate a single user up to a maximum
of 25 stone (160kg) and offer a range of positions to suit individual needs
between a horizontal and standing position.
Product Description
The M – Brand range of Rise & Recline chairs, from Z-Tec, are designed
to be used by a range of clients, whose mobility has been reduced or
removed by a disability or chronic illness. Suitability of these chairs is
very broad and can vary from a permanent disability such as arthritis or a
stroke, to a chronic illness such as polio or Multiple Sclerosis.
The design incorporates an electrically powered single or double actuator
system, operated by a handset to manoeuvre the chair through a range of
positions from horizontal to a partial standing position. A range of
materials and colours are available that offer reduced shear benefits and
can assist in posture management and user transfer. The product is
intended to be used by a single user, with a maximum mass of 160kg (25
stone), where mobility is either impaired or an enhanced level of comfort
or posture management or pressure relief is required. The design
ergonomically accommodates a wide range of disabilities for all ages of
user. Suitability is dependant upon the degree and nature of disability and
where possible should be determined through a thorough risk assessment
carried out by a qualified medical professional. These chairs can be
suitable for assisting in rehabilitation, restoring independence and in
some instances alleviation or management of disabilities and chronic
illnesses.
Consideration must be given at point of prescription to required usage
with regard to the capabilities of the user and the environment in which
the product should be used.
The M – Brand range of chairs are imported into the EU by Z-Tec
Mobility and are placed on the EU market, CE marked, as a Class 1
Medical Device and comply with the Essential Requirements of the
Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC.
By definition these Rise & Recline chairs are marketed as a medical
device where a "medical device"* means an instrument, apparatus,
appliance, material or other article, whether used alone or in combination,
together with any software necessary for its proper application, which –

(a) is intended by the manufacturer to be used for human beings for the
purpose of-
(i) diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of
disease,
(ii) diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, alleviation of or
compensation for an injury or handicap,
(iii) investigation, replacement or modification of the anatomy or
of a physiological process, or
(iv) control of conception; and
(b) does not achieve its principal intended action in or on the human body
by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means, even if it
is assisted in its function by such means.

Safety Precautions
Please follow safety precautions before using your chair. Failure to do so
could result in a serious injury.
•Ensure only one person at a time should use the chair.
•Do not exceed the maximum user weight of 160kg.
•Do not sit on the footrest when it being elevated or in an elevated
position as this will reduce stability of the chair and damage the
motor. (dual motor only).
•Ensure that the chair is clear of any obstacles so that it can be
operated fully without coming into contact with furniture or walls.
•Do not allow children to operate the handset controls.
•Ensure that children and pets are supervised when around the chair
and are not allowed near the chair mechanisms when operated.
•All foams and material used to produce this chair meet the UK
Furnishing Regulations (Fire) (Safety) 1988 for flammability but
where possible avoid subjecting the chair to ignition sources and
combustive materials.
•Periodically check the handset to ensure correct functionality and
ensure no damage has occurred to the wiring.
•The footrest is operated by a scissor mechanism. Ensure that it is
clear of obstructions such as children, pets, clothing or objects
when operating.
Installing Your Chair
The chair should be positioned where required, ensuring that it can
operate fully and not be inhibited by walls or other obstacles such as
furniture. Plug the mains lead into the power supply.

Operating Your Chair
The chair is operated by depressing the handset buttons to position the
chair in the desired positions. The handset is a ‘push to run’ style
operation. If you release the button it will stop, depress the button and it
will operate again.
The chair can be put into a recline or stand up position by depressing the
arrow buttons pointing until you reach the stop or desired position.
If you have the dual motor chair then your handset will have 4 buttons.
The extra buttons will operate the footrest, allowing the raising or
lowering of the footrest.
When not in use the handset can be stowed in the side pockets of the
chair.

Care & Maintenance
The chair should be checked periodically for any signs of tears or damage
to the fabric or leather. Clean only with a damp cloth. Leather may be
cleaned with specialist cleaning products only.
Warranty Detail
This chair is covered by a manufacturers 12 month warranty when used
in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines. This
warranty is not transferable. Should any part of the chair require
repair or replacement due to a manufacturers defect, within the warranty
period, then that part shall be supplied free of charge.
This guarantee excludes labour and any items that have been
subjected to misuse or undue wear.
Product Life Cycle & Disposal
This Product is designed to have a life cycle of 5 years if the
manufacturer’s recommendations for use and servicing are followed.
Care and attention of a well maintained chair can increase this period
considerably.
The chair should be disposed of in accordance with national disposal and
recycling guidelines.
