1. Before use
This operation manual is written for technical staff experienced in the general operation
of magnetic and Non-contact IC card reader/encoders. It is intended to describe the
operation of NIDEC Sankyo 's model ICI3Q8-5293.
The terminal manufacturer shall be responsible to furnish an operation manual for end
users.
2. Important Notice
Misuse or mishandling may shorten product life or cause the product to malfunction or
operate improperly.
Please read this manual thoroughly to understand proper care and operation of the
ICI3Q8-5293.
3. Attentions to this instruction manual and cautions
This equipment is packaged for use in North America. Use in other areas will necessitate
substitution of the power cord. Please check with the terminal manufacturer for an
appropriate cable if used outside North America.
1) A user may not repair this equipment. Please ask specialized service personnel for
repair.
2) Repair or service by unqualified/untrained personnel may result in damage to the
equipment or personal injury. Please refer all repair/service operations to a trained
service technician.
3) Use of third party supplied spare parts, could result in damage to equipment or
personal injury. Use only factory supplied spare parts in service of this equipment.
4) Ensure product is placed in a clean and stable location to prevent from falling or
dropping. Please hold the product by the lower case when transporting or moving.

4. Scope
This instruction manual is to describe proper handling procedures of the magnetic and
Non-contact IC card reader/encoder, model number ICI3Q8-5293.
5. Equipment summary and functions
Magnetic card reader/encoder, (hereafter referred to as MCRW), is a terminal with
enclosure, and embedded power supply. It is configured to read and encode magnetic cards,
working through an USB connection to the main computing system (hereafter referred to
as HOST).
Firmware is installed in the onboard flash ROM (F-ROM) and downloadable by the HOST
for ease of upgrade if required.

6. Unpacking

proceeding.

7. Setup
7.1Howtoconnect

Ensure that the AC switch is off. See section 7.2.
EnsurethatpowerLEDisnotlit.
Turn over the MCRW, and insert the power cable connector securely into
the inlet as shown in the figure below.

connector. Connect the other end to the appropriate USB port on the
HOST.

securely to AC120V outlet (grounded triple pin).

1.Donotexceedratedpowersupplyinputvoltage
2. The power cable supplied with the MCRW is rated +125V 15A. Do not use
underrated power cables or extension cords. Underrated power cables or
extension cords could cause a risk of fire or overheating.
3.Agroundedtriplepinoutletshouldbeusedforpower.
4. Please hold the plug portion when the power cable is inserted or removed.
Do not pull on the cable.

7.2 How to turn on and shut off the power supply:
1)Howtoturnonthepowersupply:
TopowerON:pressthe" " ontheACswitch.

on the front panel is lit.
2)Howtoshutoffthepowersupply:

before turning ON the power supply after

7.3 How to replace a fuse:
Pleasecontactatrainedrepairtechnician when you need to replace a fuse.
1)SwitchofftheACandensure that the power LED is extinguished.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the outlet.
3) Turn over the MCRW. Use a flathead screwdriver on the fuse holder and turn
gently to release. Pull out the fuse holder.
4) Remove the old fuse and, insert a new fuse of the proper rating.
5) Replace the holder in the original position . Push and turn it to the right
until it stops. Ensure that the holder is securely seated.

7.4 Howtoremoveajammedcard:
Please refer to a trained technician for removal of a jammed card.
When removing the jammed card, please follow the process below.
1)SwitchofftheACandmakesure that the power LED is extinguished.
2) Loosen the cover screw on the upper case rear (use a Phillips-head
screwdriver.).
3) Push the upper case mark downwards, in the direction shown by arrow (1),
and pull in the direction of arrow (2) moving the case to rear.
4)Lifttheuppercasetoremove. .

5) Unhook the cover sheet from the top of the card reader and hold by the hook side.
6) Using tweezers, inserted from the top of the card reader, gently push the jammed
card towards the gate until it can be easily removed by hand.
7) Place the upper case on the main body as shown by arrow (4) and slide forward, in
the direction of arrow (5), then snap lock the upper case in place (6).
8) Fasten the cover screw (use a Phillips-head screwdriver).

8. Considerations for card handling
Pleaseuseapplicablecards. Thisequipment cannot handle any cards other than
those specified.
1) Remove any foreign objects from the card.
Wipe moisture or oils from cards with a dry cloth prior to using.
Removeany,stickingtape,clips,oreraser residue to prevent card read errors.
2)Damagedcardsmaynotbeused on this equipment.
Warped, bent, curled, punctured, or cracked cards may cause read/write errors or
card jams.
3) Unreadable card
Damaged or demagnetized cards may make a normal read operation impossible.
9. Daily maintenance
Daily checks and maintenance shall be performed as follows.
1)Cautions
Maintenance must be done with the AC switch shut off. Any maintenance work
requiring with upper case removal, should be referred to a trained service
technician.
2) Daily maintenance
Each cable connector must be securely connected.
Cables shall not be placed under the equipment or removed.
3)Cleaning
Use a dry cloth to clean the MCRW case.
For more extensive case cleaning, a damp cloth with a neutral detergent should
be used. After cleaning the case should be wiped off with a dry cloth.
5) The magnetic head should be periodically cleaned. It is recommended that an
approved cleaning card be used for this purpose.
