Installation Guidelines
1. Unit Install
Ensure that the ScorpionTrack unit is fitted in a covert position that is not easily accessible
and wherever possible, please avoid fitting the unit near to vehicle ECU’s or radio receivers
and amplifiers.
The unit should also be secured using cable ties and it is imperative that the fixing kit
provided is used to secure the unit in place and protect it from vibration.
The unit has LED service lights. During commissioning it may be required to view the status
of these LEDs, therefore do not box-off completely until the unit has successfully installed.
2. G S Antenna
The G S Antenna must be covert but mounted in a manner that will offer it a good and clear
view of the sky. Avoid fitting under the dashboard in vehicles with solar glass – the bumper
can be used as an alternative in this situation.
The antenna MUST NOT be shielded by metal
lease be aware that if signal strength is poor it can take up to 10 minutes to get a
satellite fix. Therefore commissioning should be done outdoors as the unit cannot be
activated without a G S fix. The G S antenna cable must not be coiled to loose excess
length as this may cause interference.
The antenna wiring must be secured by cable ties wherever possible and the wiring routed
in a way that makes it as discreet as possible. The G S connector should be tightened to a
torque of 1nm.

3. ermanent Ground Connection (-31) Black Wire
This connection should be made as close to the unit as possible. Try to avoid using the same
earth with any other system using a new and unused ground point and treat for corrosion as
required using the vehicle manufacturers recommended process.
Do not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits as this may cause interference.
4. ermanent 12v or 24v power supply (+30) Red Wire
Connect the permanent power supply to either 12 or 24 volt using the in-line 5 amp link
fuse (supplied) using soldered or approved crimp connections. It is also important to check
that the supply is a constant feed and does not time out due to on board vehicle power
management.
Please Note: It can take some time after the car is locked for some feeds to drop out, please
double check if unsure. Do not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits as this may
cause interference.
5. Ignition (+15) Orange Wire
Locate a 12 or 24 volt ignition supply that remains constant while cranking the engine.
Connect the ScorpionTrack orange wire to this ignition supply using a soldered or approved
crimp connection, then insulate.
Please Note: It is imperative that the ScorpionTrack has a good ignition power supply. Do
not connect directly to the vehicle’s radio circuits as this may cause interference.

6. Check for RF Interference
Whilst the ScorpionTrack unit has in-built filters to prevent RF interference, a simple check
can be performed to establish whether the unit is causing additional interference.
Before making the connections, check the vehicle radio receives good quality reception by
auto searching through the FM and/or DAB channels. Then fit all the connectors and repeat
this process.
If interference is an issue then try one of the following in order to establish the root cause of
the problem:
-Move the position of the ST50 unit
-Move the position of the earth connection
-Move the position of the power supply
-Move the position of the ignition supply
-Fit suppressors to battery and ignition feeds
If problems persist after exhausting all of the above options, please contact Tracking
Support on 01257 249928 option 2 for assistance.

7. Commissioning the unit and LED status indicators
Before connecting the ScorpionTrack unit make sure that the vehicle is in an area with clear-
sight of the sky. The antenna fitment recommendations are mentioned in section 2. of this
document. Ignition must be on.
N.B. Never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running.
Now connect the ScorpionTrack unit. The ignition must be on for the configuration process
to complete. If the ignition is turned off before completion, the configuration process will
start again, 5 minutes after the ignition is next turned on.

8. Commissioning Texts
During the installation process, the installer will receive commissioning texts as follows:
a) The first text will confirm that the vehicle is ready to have the allocated unit
installed. This is sent as a result of entering the customer, vehicle, installer and
unit details on-line.
b) The second text will confirm that the installation has been completed
successfully and that the Dealer can see the vehicle on-line for a 2 hour time
period if the customer has paid their subscription.
Text examples of a normal installation process:
1. Once set up on-line, the installer will received this text
Once the installation is complete, the unit has G S, is connected to the cellular network,
the installer will receive a text to confirm that the unit has commissioned. This will show
the vehicle registration and longitude and latitude of the vehicle’s position. At this point
the installer will have 2 hours in which to view the location online but only if the
customer has paid their subscription.
2. Once installed and powered up, the installer will receive this text
If the installer does not receive the final confirmation text, the unit has not
commissioned. This could be due to a number of reasons which should be identified by
the LED Status Indication (please see section 7. of this document). For further
assistance please call Tracking Support on 01257 249928 option 2.
Please Note: If the installer has NOT received any text message, the unit has not been able
to commission and they should refer to the troubleshooting guide at the end of this
document or call Tracking Support on 01257 249928 option 2.

Contact Tracking Support on 01257 249928 option
2.
If LEDs are flashing but no
text received.
Ensure ignition is on and G S antenna has clear
sight-of-sky.
Cover the green LED and count the flashes on the
red LED – there should be 3. Repeat for Green LED
and count the flashes. Ideally there should be no
more than 15 and no less than 3.
To commission, the unit will need 3 Red and a flash
count on Green (i.e. 7 flashes equals 7 satellites).
