Carefully read through this information prior to installation and commissioning of the
boiler

PROFESSIONAL INS ALLA ION & COMMISSIONING
Correct operation of the boiler/installation can only be achieved if installation is carried out by a trained specialist (licensed in-
staller or heating engineer) according to the recognised technical regulations. he complete electrical installation must be
carried out by a licensed person or company, and other relevant regulations and standards must be adhered to. Initial commis-
sioning can be carried out as required by company-authorised customer services and SH partner companies. Prior to initial
commissioning of the boiler by a specialist, the operator of the boiler must ensure the boiler is ready for operation (i.e. electrical
cabling, hydraulic connections, unobstructed and suitable flue, suitable heat extraction and appropriate fuel)

Note that the boiler/stove is not childproof (doors, etc.) and must not therefore be operated by children or other unauthorised
and untrained personnel. raining is given by your specialist (installer, authorised customer services or SH customer services
technician) when commissioning or during servicing. n the event of unprofessional installation and commissioning, as
well as incorrect operation involving non-observance of the device-specific instructions (as per technical documen-
tation, operating instructions), all warranty and guarantee claims lapse. A return flow boost and the use of a buffer
reservoir as well as a hydraulic calibration of the complete system are essential for correct operation. The heat
consumption must ensure a minimum device running time of 1.5 - 2 hours per combustion cycle at a minimum 50%
of the nominal output.
FUEL and SE -UP
he boiler must be operated by a qualified operator using only the appropriate fuel (fuel requirements in accordance with techni-
cal documentation) and in suitable, dry boiler rooms/installation locations. he fuel store must also be dry and meet the fuel-
specific requirements (see storage room arrangement). he boiler room/installation space and fuel store must comply with the
relevant constructional and safety regulations (especially fire and personal safety regulations). The storage room must only
be entered after previous ventilation (see also pellet - storage room safety signs) and when the installation has
been switched off and power cut.
FLUE REQUIREMEN S FOR BOILERS
For new or recently overhauled flues the boiler operator must show the authorised heating specialist or customer service techni-
cian, prior to the (initial) commissioning of the boiler, a valid acceptance certificate of the responsible chimney sweep
demonstrating the suitability and operational readiness of the flue. he flue pipe must be cleared by the operator (no covers or
blockages). A good through flow (sufficient fresh air) must be ensured in the boiler room/installation location. Any existing defi-
ciencies and/or modifications to the flue and the boiler must be pointed out. Because of lower exhaust temperatures in the
transition period the flue must be sealed and be impervious to damp. Smoke and fumes must be able to escape unimpeded into
the atmosphere.
PERIODIC CLEANING AND SERVICING OF HE INS ALLA ION
Each heating installation i.e. boiler and all connected system components (e.g. flue, feed system, safety systems) must be ser-
viced and cleaned periodically to ensure correct functioning and efficient operation. Observe the cleaning and servicing require-
ments of these instructions. Our field service engineers and customer services personnel will provide you with the necessary
information. Only a clean and correctly adjusted boiler is an efficient boiler. A coating of only 1 mm of dust on the heat ex-
changer surfaces will increase the fuel consumption by approx. 7%.

OBSERVE HE CORREC ASSEMBLY SEQUENCE
Observe the correct assembly sequence in these instructions. he insulating jacket (sheet-metal lagging including insulation)
must be fitted before the water is connected! Before commissioning fill the boiler with the correct quantity (according to the
standard) of heat transfer medium and ensure a suitable operating pressure is generated in the manifold lines.

Ensure that you comply with the requirements of the relevant laws, standards and local fire and building regulations, the heating
system ordinance and all related safety requirements for heating systems, boiler rooms and fuel storage rooms. Further infor-

from SH Heiztechnik aus Salzburg GmbH consists of a
pellet combustion chamber and a split log combustion chamber made of
refractory concrete, a tubular heat exchanger with cleaning coils, elec
tric
ignition and automatic grate de-
ashing. he pellet feed into the pellet
combustion chamber is by means of IBS * tested input.
In the default setting (combined pellet and split log operation) the system
is operated automatically by the microprocessor
system with associated
sensors and switches.

Mode of operation:
In the pellets/split logs automatic operating mode everything runs fully automatically, therefore no
further adjustments need to b
e made to the boiler. he boiler runs as a fully automatic pellet heating
system (only the pellet burner operates) until split logs are placed in the boiler
. After the split logs are
placed in position they are ignited automatically by the pellet burner an
d burn for their individual
duration of combustion. During the full combustion period of the split logs the pellet burner is turned
off. If the system (heating & hot water) still requires energy after the combustion of split logs then the
pellet burner re-ignites automatically.
Furthermore, the installation offers an additional mode, pure split log operation (gasifying wood boiler).
In this operating mode, manual or automatic ignition can be implemented via the pellet burner.
he supply of fuel (pellets) is implemented from the right via a feed channel. Using a variable-
speed
flue gas fan, primary air is supplied to the fuel through the grate, and secondary air at the outlet of the
combustion chamber to the combustion gases. he combustion gases flow throug
h the split log fuel
chamber and are directed through the tubular heat exchanger to the flue.
At regular intervals an electrical drive empties the ash from the pellet combustion chamber into the
underlying ash pan.
he supply of fuel (split logs) is via ma
nual insertion into the fuel chamber. he air supply for split log
operation is ensured by primary and secondary air ports. he combustion gases also flow via the
tubular heat exchanger to the flue.
he entire combustion control is via a lambda probe and a
flame temperature sensor, the power control
via a boiler temperature sensor. otal air management is achieved via a primary and a secondary air
valve and variable speed induced draught. his ensures a stable negative pressure in the combustion
chamber and the conveying of the combustion gases to the chimney.
he tubular heat exchanger is cleaned by means of an integrated automatic cleaning mechanism
(at
the DA 15/25 manually with the lever).

•Pellets and split log operation (standard)
In automatic mode you can run your t th he er rm mo od du ua al l T TD DA A
either with pellets or split logs. You do not
have to ignite by hand and there is also no smoke and fumes in the central heating room. You are
not tied to fixed heating times -
the boiler only ignites the wood when heat is required (e.g. at 5:30
in the morning).
•Split log operation only, with automatic ignition
Fill the boiler with split logs and ignite the wood by pressing a button on the control panel
. his is
much more convenient than manual lighting and the wood is only ignited the next time there is
demand for heat. Furthermore, you do not need to lay down paper and chop kindling.
•Split log operation only, with manual ignition
Use this mode with ma
nual ignition only if you currently do not have pellets available. he boiler is
then operated as a conventional wood gasification boiler (ignite, start, re-load, etc.)

SAFETY FEATURES
he temperature sensor and oxygen sensor monitor the boiler at each stage of combus
tion. If the
system is set to "OFF " by pressing the
button during operation, the control function will remain in
operation until combustion of the loaded fuel (only at mode “logs” and “working”).
At combustion chamber elevated temperatures and after a power failure, the system is automatically
brought into service in order to avoid uncontrolled combustion (danger of deflagration).
Frost protection criteria (system set to "OFF"):
he t th he er rm mo od du ua al l T TD DA A has an extensive anti-
freeze function that protects the complete system against
frost damage.
After the activation of one of the frost protection criteria, the boiler is temporarily started if the system
is set to "OFF"; the display will change to flashing "ON" when preventing
frost damage to the system by
starting the pellets burner.
In general, the frost protection function is activated when the outside temperature falls below an
average of -3°C during a 24 hour period. In addition, the following criteria apply:
A) Protection of domestic hot water reservoir:
he boiler starts the pellets burner autonomously if the temperature probe of boiler 1 and/or boiler 2
registers a temperature below 6°C.
After the level for Initial Heating Low emperature
Mode (default setting 35°C) the boiler switches to
"OFF". During this phase, the control device displays "Risk of Frost DOM.WA ER burner activated".
B) Protection of heating circuits:
If frost protection function is a
ctivated, heating circuits are monitored by cyclically flushing of the heat
circuit pumps for one minute every 20 minutes. During this minute, the contro
l device displays "Pump
ON for 60 sec. for FROS PRO EC ION".
If the preliminary temperature falls belo
w 6°C, the pellets burner startsautonomously and runs until the
frost protection criteria are met and switches "OFF" subsequently. During this phase, the control device
displays "Risk of Frost DOM.WA ER burner activated".
C) Protection of boiler:
he boiler starts the pellets burner autonomously if the temperature probe of the boiler
registers a
temperature below 6°C.
he pellets burner runs until the minimal boiler runtime is reached and switches "OFF" subsequently.
During this phase, the control device displays "Risk of Frost DOM.WA ER burner activated".
If the installation is "∗
OFF", then after activation of one of the three frost protection criteria, the boiler
switches temporarily to "∗ON" to avoid frost damage to the installation by starting the pellet burner.
NOT CE
: f the combustion operating mode is set to the "SPL T LOGS ONLY" option, the
automatic frost protection is not activated!
f no or not enough pellets are in place
, the frost protection functions mentioned above
cannot be executed!!!
When the power is off or when the boiler is in standby mode, the burn back monitoring function
(also when in the "SPLI LOGS ONLY" combustion mode) is active, i.e. the feed auger feeds back the
hot material from the feed channel into the combustion chamber.

4System requirements
he products of SH Heiztechnik aus Salzburg GmbH are always combined with other structural de
vices
and therefore require specific system requirements for trouble free operation. In the following para-
graphs a few very important requirements are explicitly mentioned. his is not, however, a detailed list.
In the preliminary stages a well-grounded installation plan should be drawn up by a qualified
installer
or heating engineer, so that individual system components can be adapted
to each other and the
required overall solution achieved.
4.1 Application possibilities
As main heating system for: Single and multi-family houses
, small farms, and small commercial
applicatons including hot water preparation.
his distinction plays a deci
sive role in the design of the installation and the selection of components
(solar, buffer, etc.) .
It is standard practice for a heat load calculation for the respective building where the boiler is installed
to be made by a qualified heating engineer and be available for inspection.
Historical data shows that during a heating season a heating system will be operated for a total of
approx. 1800 hours at nominal load (total nominal load and partial load hours added together).
4.2 Central heating room (minimum distances to flammable materials)
he boiler must be installed in a specially provided central heating room that complies with the
structural requirements. If you use an automatic feed system then the pellet storage room must be laid
out according to the above guidelines.
4.3 Water system, decrease in performance
he heat demand (heat requirement) during operation is dependent on the specific boiler size, for DA
30 min. 8 4 kW and for DA 40 min. 11.4 kW. With lower heat loss, the built-in safety devices ar
e
activated and/or the unit is shut down.
4.4 Room and ambient temperatures/humidity
he system is designed for operation in an environment
with normal air humidity and room
temperatures of +5°C to +20°C.
At room temperatures below 5°C suitable anti-frost protection must be provided in the water circuit.
he system is not protected against sprayed water and must not be installed in wet rooms.
4.5 Flue connection
It is imperative that the boiler is connected to a flue that is suitable for solid fuels and is damp proof
.
he flue draught must always be between a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 25 Pa. Prior to
installation, calculation and dimensioning of the flue must be carried out. Even in the event of a power
cut the flue ensures the safe extraction of the flue gases from the boiler
and therefore fulfills an
important safety function. If the flue draught is too high (>20 Pa) we recommend incorporation of a
draught regulator.

4.6 Combustion air supply
When in operation the system depends on room air
. An adequate combustion air supply is absolutely
necessary. A negative pressure in the central heating room is not permitted, so good ventilation must
be ensured in the central heating room room.
4.7 Pellet quality
Wood pellets are made from 100% natural wood waste (wood shavings, sawdust,...). he dry wood
waste is crushed and pressed into wood pellets.
he pellet (quality) used must comply with the quality certifi
cate "EN plus" based on the European
Standard EN 14961-2 for wood pellets or ÖNORM 7135 and DIN 51731.
In practice: 2 kilograms of wood pellets are equal to approx. one litre of light fuel oil. Wood pellets
must be transported and stored in a completely d
ry state. On contact with moisture pellets swell up, as
wood is hygroscopic (i.e. it is in constant moisture exchange with the environment).
How can you recognise high-quality wood pellets?
Good quality: the surface appears smooth and has a satiny shee
n, the pellets are all the same length,
and there is no dust.
Poor quality: Longitudinal cracks, high proportion of extremely long and/or short pellets, and high
proportion of dust.
How can you check the pressing quality of the pellets quickly and roughly?
Put a handful of wood pellets into a glass of water.
Good quality: pellets sink due to higher density compared with water.
Poor quality: pellets float due to low density compared with water.
4.8 Split log quality
Optimum combustion with maximum efficiency c
an only be achieved when the water content of the
wood is not more than w = 20%. he maximum water content must not exceed 30%.
4.9 Return flow boost
t is imperative that a return flow boost is used.
he return flow temperature must be between
55°C and 60°C (optimum value 55°C) at the return flow connection of the boiler
, otherwise soot and
tar formation, with resulting corrosion, can occur. For DA 30/40 units a 5/4" reflux heating set-
up with
a DN32 valve must be used! Otherwise, there may be problems with heat dissipation.

on assemblies. Details can be
found in the separate assembly and installation instructions.
4.10 Cleaning, servicing, maintenance
Ash and soot accumulate when solid fuel is burnt, which means that periodic cleaning and servicing is
necessary. Without these mea
sures there is a likelihood that malfunctions will occur for which we
accept no liability. Only a clean and correctly adjusted boiler is an efficient boiler. A coating of only 1
mm of dust on the heat exchanger surfaces increases the fuel consumption by approx. 7%.
4.11 Mains voltage/voltage supply
230 VAC/50 Hz. Voltage fluctuations of –15% up to +10% are allowed.

4.12 Heating with wood – for the sake of the environment
Wood is produced from the natural forces of the earth and
the sun. A natural fuel that is constantly regenerated and
decomposes and burns in a CO
2
neutral manner.
he shortage of raw materials and the greenhouse effect
caused by the use of fossil fuels such as crude oil and
natural gas can be counteracted effectively with a modern
biomass heating system.
A sustainable future for energy uses the most modern technology and a valuable biogenic fuel: wood.
Physical process of wood combustion
he wood is initially heated and dried at approx. 100°C. As the temperature increases gaseous
materials (wate
r and oxygen) escape. Depending on the quality of the fuel the flashpoint lies between
230°C and 280°C. Solid materials (cellulose, lignin, etc.) are then converted into a gaseous state.
Pyrolysis is the thermal separation of materials and a change in the
aggregate state in the temperature
range between 180°C and 450°C. he decomposition of the wood is designated as primary combustion
(endothermal process). With the addition of pre-
heated secondary air the wood gases are now burned
in the post combustion zone (exothermal process.)
Negative pressure (by means of a suction fan) directs the combustion air via the automatic primary and
secondary air flaps.
5nitial commissioning
Initial commissioning can only be carried out by SH Heiztechnik trained personnel.

l commissioning all connections (water and flue pipe connection, electrical) on the
system must be checked. For a cold boiler
the system pressure must be at least 1.5 up to max. 2
bar.
•Always keep the combustion chamber door and ash door closed even when the appliance is cold.
•Always use a heat-resistant glove when working on the system.

Pellets may not be loaded into the hopper/pellet storage space until installation has been completed
in accordance with the assembly and installation instructions.
•Always ensure the central heating room is well ventilated.

Before operation boilers must always be filled with water and connected to a heating system. Safety
devices must not be bypassed, turned off or removed.
•Flue: the flue must not be obstructed in any way.
•Carry out relay test.
•Check the auger radius of the coreless auger (min. 1.2 m).
•Release hydraulic components and make system-specific settings.

7.3 Home screen in detail
7.3.1 Boiler temperature:
Here, the current temperature of the water in the boiler is displayed in °C.
During operation, it ranges between 65 and 85°C. During operation with pellets and
logs, the value
ranges typically between 68 and 78°C. (In this temperature range, the boiler emits its full power; if the
boiler temperature exceeds 82°C, the power will be reduced to 50%.)
7.3.2 Fuel selection:
Here, the burner's operation mode is displayed, that can be se
lected in the main menu under
"Fuelselection".
Pellet / Logs = Once the logs have been entirely consumed, the pellet burner starts as soon as
the upper buffer temperature has fallen under the starting value and
stops as soon as this temperature exceeds the switching-off value.
Only Logs = Once the logs have been entirely consumed, the burner switch is set to
„OFF“ (no automatic pellets burner start).
7.3.3 Process water temperature:
Here, the current temperature of the process water is displayed.
7.3.4 Outside temperature:
Here, the current outside temperature is shown.
7.3.5 Buffer fill level:
Here, the current fill level of the buffer is displayed in %: Vessel full = em
perature on top and bottom

7.3.6 Boiler type:
Here, the boiler type is displayed on which the setting is preset. his s
etting is preset by the
programme and cannot be changed.
7.3.7 Time:
Here, the current time is displayed.
7.3.8 Position burner switch:
Here, the position (ON/OFF) of the burner switch is displayed.
he switch position can be changed by repeated pushing of the button beneath (arrow up).
ON = he burner switch is switched on, the fuel selection „Pellet / Logs“ starts and stops
the pellets
burner automatically depending on the buffer temperature.
If fuel selection is set to „Only Logs“, the logs burning process
or the log ignition starts after the
burner switch was set to ON. Once the logs are consumed, the switch is set to OFF.
OFF= he burner switch is switched off.
ON, flashing = Frost protection triggered; the burner switch was initially set to OFF, due to ri
sk of
frost, it was set to ON. he pellet burner runs until frost risk is averted.
Once the frost risk is averted,
the switch is set to OFF.
OFF, flashing = While the burner switch was set to OFF, wood
put onto residual embers ignited. As
soon as the wood is consumed, the switch re-
sets to OFF (which can take several hours depending on
the deposited amount of wood).

7.3.9 Burner operation mode:
Here, the current operation mode of the burner is displayed:
Pellet = the boiler is in operation mode "pellet"
Logs = the boiler is in operation mode "Logs"
Pell. gn = the burner operation mode is set to "Only Logs", wood was inserted
(door was open for longer than 10 sec.) –
as soon as the burner switch is set to "ON", and
the start criteria are met, the pellet burner starts to ignite the inserted wood.
empty = the burner operation mode is set to "Logs only", no wood is in log compartment (
timber
entirely cosumed).
7.3.10 Burner activity:
Here, the activities displayed that´s executed at the moment ("Pellet" or "Logs" –
see Current burner
operation mode). he following terms can be displayed:

Low-press = Burner is locked due to lack of water pressure in the heating.
Tilting = he pellet grate is being cleaned (tilted) – distinct rattling noise audible.
LogCheck = he system checks by diverting the combustion-air, wether eventually logs have been
inserted and tries to ignit it.

7.3.11 Combustion chamber
temperature:
Here, the current combustion chamber temperature is displayed.
During operation with pellets, this value ranges between 200 and 500°C (the longer the operating time,
the higher the temperature).
During operation with logs, this value ranges between 400 and 800°C (depending on the
wood quality
and how the wood was inserted: By a badly chuting wood stack, a so called "cavern fire" arises –
the
basic embers at the chamber bottom sag, thus the combustion chamber temperature falls).
7.3.12 MENU:
By pushing the button "Next", you get into the main menu.
From here, all users or heating specialists can change settings
and retrieve temperatures, operational
stati, meter readings etc.
