· TheprimarypurposeofSmartGateistotransmitvoicebetween GSMnetworkand
attachedphoneterminals.You can connectterminalwithFXOinterface(trunkline
ofPBX,phone set, answeringmachine etc.)toFXSinterfaceon SmartGate
(connectorwithphone icon)and terminalwithFXSinterface(extension line ofPBX)
toFXO interfaceonSmartGate(connectorwithcrossedout phoneicon).
· You can establishdataconnections(GPRS,CSD) and send/receiveSMSusing
SmartGateincombination withaPCand appropriatesoftware.

2.Installation
2.1.ProperLocation
· SmartGateisdesignedforverticalmountingonsuspension holes(usethe mounting
pattern).Thisposition isthe bestforsignalreception becauseaverticalantenna is
used.SmartGatecan be operated inthe horizontalposition too wherethe GSM
signalisgood orwithantenna connectedoncoaxcable.
· InstallSmartGatewithrespecttotheGSMsignalstrength–checkthesignalstrength
usingthePCManager.
· PlaceSmartGateoutofrangeofsensitivedevicesandhuman bodiesfor
electromagneticinterferencereasons.
· SmartGatecan disturbothertelecommunication systems.Placephonelinesand
connectedterminalsand PBX’sfarawayfromantenna.
· Forthe allowed rangeofoperatingtemperaturesrefertothe “Technical
Parameters”.
· It isimpossibletooperateSmartGateonsitesexposedtodirectsolarradiation or
nearheatsources.
· SmartGateisdesigned forindooruse.It maynotbe exposed torain,flowingwater,
condensed moisture, fog, etc.
· SmartGatemaynot be exposed toaggressivegas, acidvapours, solvents, etc.
· SmartGateisnotdesigned forenvironmentswithhighvibrationssuchasmeansof
transport, machine rooms, etc.

2.2.External AntennaConnection
Screwthe antenna enclosed intothe SMAantenna connector.Tighten the antenna
connectorgentlywithyourhand -neverusespanner!
Theantennafordirectconnectionhasasufficientgainfortrouble-freeoperationin
normalconditions.If theGSMsignalispoor,incaseof voicedisturbance,orif you want
toplaceyourantenna separatelyfromSmartGate,you can usean antenna withan
SMA-connectorterminatedcoaxcable.Theantenna shouldbemountedvertically.
Forantennaand cableparametersseethe“TechnicalParameters“.
2.3.SIMCardInstallation
Open the SIMcardholderon SmartGate’sbackside,inserttheSIMcardand closeit
properly.Selectthe required GSMproviderand SIMcardservices,suchascall
forwarding,call barring,preferred networks,SMSservicecentre,etc.inyourmobile
phone beforeinsertingyourSIMcardinSmartGate.

PBX.
You can connectastandardtelephone,answeringmachine oranyotherFXO-interface
terminaltoSmartGate.Outgoingcallsfromphone willbe routed toGSMnetwork,incoming
callsfromGSMwillringonthe phone.Optionallyyou can connectanaloguefax(special
modelofSmartGate).
SmartGateisequipped withthe FSK-based CLIPand soitisadvantageoustoconnecta
terminalthatisabletodisplayorprocess the CLI. You mustactivatethe function on
SmartGate.
2.5.4.Gatewayfor both, trunkand extension,lines ofPBX
SmartGateisveryflexiblethanks tohisthree routingtables.You can connecttrunkand
extension linesofonePBXtoproperconnectorson SmartGate.You canprogramthe
complexasfollows:outgoingcallsfromPBX will be routedthroughtrunklinetoGSM
network.IncomingcallsfromGSMwillbe routed toextension line ofPBX.This
configurationissuitableforPBX’swithno capabilityofdial-inontrunklines.

2.6.PowerSupplyConnection
SmartGateispowered with10-16V DC.Whereasourceotherthan the included power
supplyadapterisused,the voltagerangeand polarityshownon the SmartGatepower
supplyconnectorhavetobe maintained.Forbackup powersupplyyou can use
EnergyBank–backup sourcewithaccumulators.
Donotpoweron the supplyuntilthe antennaisconnected toSmartGatetoavoidthe
GSMmoduledamage.
2.7.SMSSending InputConnection
You havegotaspecialconnectorforeasyconnection toSmartGate.The connector
isequippedwithscrewingclampstoconnectwiresfromaswitchingcontact(deviceto
be monitored).Theotherconnectorendcan be connectedtothe respectiveSmartGate
panelconnector.
Theinputisdesigned forthecontactofrelayconnected betweentheinputpins.The
input isactivated bycontact closing(pininterconnection).
Atransistorswitchorlogicsignalcan be used too.The pinnearthe telephone line
connectorisconnectedtoGND ofthedevicethesecondone isactive.Please,respect
the loop currentpolarity. Thereisover-voltage protectionupto+12V DC there.
2.8.PCConnection
You havegotaserialcableforPCconnection.It isamodemcablewhereallofthe 9
pinsare1:1interconnected –incaseyou wanttouseanothercable.
Ifyou usealongercable,makesureitworksproperly.Theremayoccurerrorsathigher
transmission rates.

4.SIMCardPIN protection
If aSIMcardisPIN-protectedandthePINisnotprogrammed inSmartGate,GSM
LEDindicatesthe stateandthe PINtone istransmittedontelephoneline.
4.1.PINEntering byPCManager
Likeotherparameters,thePINcodecanbeenteredusingaPCprogrammingtool.
ThePINwill be enteredautomaticallyuponeverySmartGatepowerup.
4.2.PINEntering viaTelephoneLine
PINenteringviaatelephone lineconnected toFXS interface:
1.Hookoff thephone, youcanhearthePINtone.
2.EnterthePINusingtheDTMF.You can cancelthe wrongPINbyenteringof a
, oryou canhangup beforesendinga .
3.Toconfirmentera .
4.Ifyou hearthebusytone inawhile(afewseconds), you haveentered the PIN
correctly. Hangup and wait forregisteringtothe GSMnetwork.

enterthe PINcorrectly.
6.If you hearthePUKtoneinawhile,you haveenteredawrongPINandthe

4.3.AutomaticPINEntering
You neednotenterthePINuponpowerup ifitisstoredinSmartGate–itisentered
automatically.Thisfunction isusefulincaseofpowerfailure;SmartGateisoperablein
ashorttimeafterpowerrecoverywithout anyintervention bythe operatingstaff.
Caution! One PINenteringoption isexhausted bythe attempttoenterthe PIN
automaticallyupon SIMcardorPINchange.Ifwrong,the automaticallyentered PINis
cleared fromthe internalmemorytoavoidanotherfalseattemptuponnextpoweron.
Therearestill twomanualPIN-enteringattemptsaftersuchunsuccessfulautomatic
entering.Topreventthe unsuccessfulautomaticPINentering,deleteorprogram
properlythe SmartGatePINusingthe PCManagerinthecaseof SIMcardchange.

5.Voice function
Outgoingand incoming call establishingproceduresisforillustration described for
analogphoneconnected toFXSinterfaceandextensionline ofPBX connected toFXO
interfaceon SmartGate.Incaseofotherequipmentconnection,pleasecheck
SmartGate’sfunction byconnectingaphone.
SupposethataSIMcardhasbeeninserted,the PINcode enteredornotrequired,
the antennaconnectedandSmartGateregistered toGSMnetwork–theGSMnetwork
LEDispermanentlyon andyou canhearthedialtone uponline off-hook.
5.1.DialThrugateway
Extension line ofPBXisconnected toFXOinterfaceand phone isconnected toFXS
interfaceonSmartGate.
5.1.1.Outgoing call on FXSinterface
1.Hookoff thetelephone, you can hearthedialtoneandthe Line LEDstartsflashing.
2.Dialtherequired subscribernumber.SmartGatereceivestonedialing(DTMF)by
default. Ifyourtelephonetransmitspulsedialingonly,programSmartGateto
receivepulsedialing.The delaybetweendialed digitsmaynotexceed 5s
(programmableparameter).The numberisevaluated ascompleteafterthistimeout.
3.Ashortdelayfollowsthe last-dialeddigitforSmartGatetoawaitfurtherdialing.
Then,thedialingend issignaled and connection isestablished.
4.Prefixof dialed numberiscompared withfilled rowsof FXSroutingtable. Thecall is
rejected,routed toGSMnetworkortoFXO interfaceaccordingtothe routingtable.
5.If thecalledsubscriberisavailable,you can heartheringingtone.Ifnot,you can
hearthe busytoneoranyoftheGSMprovider’smessages.
6.When thecalledsubscriberanswersthecall,acall isestablished.The LineLEDis
permanentlyon duringthecall (Orange forcallstoGSM.Green-Orangealternate
forFXS-FXO calls).
7.Hangup toterminatethe call.The Line LEDgoesoff.Ifthe calledsubscriberhangs
up first, you can hearthe busytone.
5.1.2.Incoming call from GSMnetwork
1.TheCLIiscompared withfilled rowsofGSMroutingtable.The call isrejected,
routed toFXSinterface–connectedphone,ortoFXOinterfaceaccordingtothe
routingtable.RoutingtoFXOinterfaceisn’tusuallyused incaseofDialThru
gateway.
2.Ringingon FXSinterfacesignalsincomingcall.The LineLEDflashesduring
ringing.Ifprogrammedso,SmartGatetransmitstheCLIP byFSK between thefirst
and secondrings. AdvancedtelephonesetsareabletodisplaytheCLI.
3.Hookoff thephonetoestablishthecall.TheLine LEDispermanentlyon duringthe
call.
4.Hangup toterminatethe call.The Line LEDgoesoff.Ifthe calledsubscriberhangs
up first, you can hearthe busytone.

5.1.3.Incoming call on FXO interface
1.SmartGatedetectsaringingsignaland immediatelyinterconnectsittoFXS
interface–the phonestartstoring.
2.TheCLIP transmittingmustprovide connectedPBX.

5.1.4.AutomaticCall ("BabyCall")
If theBabyCall functionisenabledonFXSinterface,apre-programmed timeoutis
counteddownafteroff-hook.Ifyou don’tstartdialingwithinthistimeout,SmartGate
signalsdialingendandstartstoestablishacall tothe pre-programmed numberusing
GSMnetworkautomatically–fromnowSmartGatebehavesasifastandardoutgoing
call toGSMhadbeenestablished.Anydialing duringthe BabyCall timeoutcancelsthis
functionand astandardoutgoingcall can be made.
5.1.5.ME-MobilityExtension
MEfunctiontakesplaceduringringingon FXS interfaceif SmartGateisprogrammed
asDialThrugateway.
Fill intelephonenumberforMEfunctionand numberofringstoMEfunctionstart.
1.SmartGatedetectsaringingsignaland immediatelyinterconnectsittoFXS
interface–the phonestartstoring.
2.Ifthereisno call connection beforethepre-programmed numberofrings,
SmartGatesimultaneouslyestablishescall toGSMnetwork.Sometimeouttake
placebetween GSMcall establishingstart andringingofmobilephone.
3.AslongasSmartGatedetectsringingon FXOinterface,connected analogand
GSMphonesring.
4.You can receivethe call on analogline aswell asonyourmobilephone.
5.Duringcall received on mobilephoneyou can sendFLASHtoPBX,forspecialPBX
functions,bypreprogrammed DTMFcode.
If you wantrepeatedlytemporarilydisableandafterwardsenabletheMEfunction,fill
inPasswordforMEactivation/disabling. If passwordisfilled in:
1.Hookoff thephone.
2.Fortemporarilydisablingthe function dialthe passwordandconfirm by
Foractivation the function dialthe passwordand confirmby .
3.Hangup.
5.1.6.Tariff pulses16or 12 kHz
SmartGatehastariff pulsetransmitteronFXSinterface.You canusetariff pulsesfor
outgoingcall pricing.SmartGateofferpseudotariffonly–tariffmeteringdoesn’t
correspondtorealpriceofcall,tariffpulsesaretransmittedaccordingtoprogrammed
parametersandcall duration.You mustprogramspecificparametersinFXSrouting
tabletosettariffmeteringfordifferentprefixesofdialed numbers.Tariff meteringis
transmitted onlyduring callstoGSMnetwork.Connected PBXmustprovide thetariff
meteringduringcallstoFXO interface.

3.TheGSMsubscriberhearsthe ringingtone fromPBXifthe automaticdialin
functionwasapplied,ifnothehearsdialtonefromPBXandhecan dialrequired
extension himself.
4.Thecall terminationisthe sameasincaseof outgoingcall.

call.

Sending fax messagetoand from PSTN
FAXcall toPSTNrouted fromFXStoFXO interface(DialThrugateway)works on
everymodelandneedn’t anyothersettings.
GSMfax message
SmartGatewithfaxconverterhasabilitytosend and receiveGSMfaxmessages
usinganalogue faxGroup 3connectedtotelephoneline FXS. Thefaxcommunication
servicemust beregistered withyourGSMoperator.
Sending afaxmessagetoGSM
Beforedestinationnumberdialcode *01*,toinformthe Gateway,thatthe call isafax
call.
Receiving afax messagefrom GSM
It isrecommended toactivateseparatefaxnumberon yourSIMcard–
multinumbering scheme.Faxmessagesshouldbe routedtothisnumber,the
messagewill be than received asfaxmessageautomatically.
If thefaxnumberisnotactivated,the call fromanalogue networkrouted toyourGSM
numberisnotdetectedasfaxcall andisroutedviatheanalogue channelofGSM
networkand theconnection isnotsuccessful.Inthiscaseitispossibletoactivatefax
engine inthe gatewaytoreceivethenextcall asfaxcall:Hookoff, dialthecode *9901#
and hookonagain.Afterthisthegatewayisprepared toreceiveafaxcall from
analoguenetwork. Afterreceivingthe faxthissettingissuspended.

7.SMS Sending Input
Thisuniversalinputisintended especiallyforreportingalarmorerrorstatusesofany
equipmentprovided withtheappropriatecontact (arelaycontact,e.g.).
Byactivatingthisinput(electricinputpininterconnection)you sendone SMStoone
pre-programmed telephonenumber.
