I BATTERY PACK
If tile battery pack is nlishandled, tile batter) pack
carl burst, cause a fire or even chemical brn'ns.
Observe tile following cautions.
•Do not disassemble.
•Do not crush and do not expose tile battery pack
to any shock or f_trce such as hammering,
dropping or stepping on it.
• Do not short circuit and do not allow metal
objects to come into contact with tile battery
terminals.
• Do not expose to high temperature above 60°C
(140°F) such as in direct sunlight or in a car
parked in tile sun.
• Do not incinerate or dispose of in fire.
• Do not handle damaged or leaking lithium ion
batteries.
• Be sure to charge tile battery pack using a
genuine Sony battery charger or a device that
call charge tile battery pack.
• Keep tile battery pack out of the reach of small
children.
• Keep tile battery pack dry.
• Dispose of used battery packs promptly as
discribed in tile instructions.
I AC ADAPTOR
Connect tile AC Adaptor to an easily accessible
wall outlet (wall socket) close by.
Even if the CHG lamp is not lit, tile AC Adaptor is
not disconnected from tile AC power source
(mains) as long as it is connected to the wall outlet
(wall socket). If some trouble occm's while using
tile AC Adaptor, immediately shut offthe power
by disconnecting tile plug from tile wall outlet
(wall socket).
A moulded plug complying with BS 1363 is fitted
to this equipment for your sali:ty and
convenience.
Should tile fuse in tile plug supplied need to be
replaced, a fl/se of tile same rating as tile supplied
one and approved by ASTA or BSI to BS 1362,
(i.e., marked with an @ or _9 mark) must be
used.
If tile plug supplied with this equipment has a
detachable ftlse cover, be sure to attach tile fuse
cover after you change the fl/se. Never use tile
plug without tile fuse cover. If you should lose tile
fl/se cover, please contact your nearest Sony
service station.

lit, or the internal memory data or "Memory Stick
PRO Duo" media data may be destroyed. Always
protect your data by making a back up copy.
I Types of "Memory Stick" media
you can use with your camera
• For recording movies, it is recommended that
you use "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media of
512 MB or larger marked with:

•"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media of up to
16 GB has been confirmed to operate correctly
with this camera.

•"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media and "Memory
Stick PRO-HG Duo" media are both reli_rred to
as "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media in this

I Notes on recording/playback
• Belore you start recording, make a trial
recording to make sure that the camera is
working correctly.
•This camera is neither dust-proof, nor splash-
proof, nor water-proof. Read "Precautions"
(page 34) befi>re nperating the camera,
• Be careful not to get the camera wet. Water
entering the inside of the camera may cause
malfimctinns which in some cases may not be
repairable.
• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other bright
light. It may cause the malfimctinn of your
camera.
• Do not use the camera near a location that
generates strong radio waves or emits radiation.
The camera may not be able to record nr play
back prnperly.
• Using the camera in sandy or dusty locatinns
may cause malfnnctions.
• If moisture condensation occurs, turn nffthe
camera and leave it for about an hour befnre
using it (page 34).
• Do not shake or strike the camera. In addition to
malfunctions and an inability to record images,
this may render the recording medium unusable,
or cause image data breakdown, damage or loss.
• When inserting or ejecting the "Memory Stick
PRO Duo" media, be careRd so that the
"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media does m)t pop
out and drop.
• When connecting your camera to another device
with a cable, be sure to insert the connector plug
in the correct way. Pushing the plug forcibly
into the terminal will damage the terminal and
may result in a malfunction of your camera.
• Playback t>f movies other than those shot, edited
or composed on this camera is not guaranteed.
I Notes on the LCD screen and
lens
•The LCD screen is mamdhctured using
extremely high-precision technology, so over
99.99c7_ of the pixels are operational for
effective use. However. there may be some tiny
black points and/or bright points (white. red,
blue or green in color) that constantly appeal" on
tile LCD screen. These points are normal in tile
manufacturing process and do not affect the
recording in any way.
•Do not hold the camera by only holding the
LCD panel.
INote on disposal/transfer
When using snl:ware embedded ill the camera,
personal infk>rmatiou such as lDs and mail
addresses )nay be saved on the internal memory of
the camera. When transferring the camera to
others or on disposal, tic> so al:er deleting the
infk>rmatinu input.
IAbout changing the language
setting
The on-screen displays in each local language are
used fk>r illustrating the operating procedures.
Change the screen language bef_>re using your
camera if necessary (page 13).

• Tiffs camera supports "MP4 format" as mo,Je
file forn/at. Therelore, movies recorded by this
camera cannot be played on devices that do not
support "MP4 lormat".
•This camera does not support "AVCHD lormat"
and tberelore is not compatible with the
playback and recording of movies in "AVCHD
format" like a Digital HD Video camera
recorder.
• Still images recorded by this camera are
compressed/recorded in JPEG _:1formal. The lile
extension is "JPG'.

Enjoying high definition images
The movies shot with this camera will be recorded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Main Profile,
approximately 30 frames per second, Progressive, AAC LC, "MP4 format".
MPEG: Movie Pictm'e Experts Group
AVC: Advanced Video Codec
Progressive playback
The camera supports progressive mode*, which is used ill computers, and therefore is suited
for playing back images on computers.
Shooting movies in image quality suited for your purpose
The camera supports the common aud widely used VGA (640×480) as well as HD (high
defiuitiou) image quality. Select VGA (640×480) image quality to upload the recorded images
on websites or to attach to mails without the need to convert the image quality.

can also use the software "PMB Portable" embedded within the camera to upload images outside home.

1 Chargingthe built-in battery

• The battery is built in within the camera.
_Connect the AC Adaptor to the DC IN jack of the camera, making sure the
power is off.
Plug the power cord (mains lead) to a wall outlet (wall socket).
The CHG lamp lights on, und charging starts.
When the CHG lamp turns off, charging is finished.
ICharging time
• Time required to charge a fully depleted battery at a temperature of 25°C (77°F). Charging may take
longer under certain circumstances or conditions.
• See page 30 for the number of images that can be recorded.
• If you do not operate the camera lot a long time, discolmect the AC Adaptor fi'om the DC 1Njack of the
camera and fi'om a wall outlet (wall socket).

The camera records/plays back images using the internal memory (approx. 12 MB).

Make sure that the access lamp is not lit, then push the
"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media in once.
•Ne,,'er remove "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media when the access lamp is lit. This may cause damage to
data in the "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media.

Position the subject in the center of the screen.
Start shooting.
_Vhen shooting still images:
(_) Press and hold PHOTO halfway down to focus.
When the locus is set on the subject, the AF range finder frame (green) appears. A beep sound is
heard, and the • (AE/AF lock) indicator (green) lights on the lower center, little toward the lel: side
of the screen.
• The angle of view switches to the aspect ratio (4:3 or 3:2) according to the shooting size of the
still image.

• Black bands appear on the top and bottom of the image when the image size is either [1080 30P] or
[720 30P].
• You cannot shoot still images while shooting movies.
• When shooting still images, the angle of view will change from that in shooting standby.
When shooting movies:
Press MOVIE.
To stop recording, press MOVIE again.
• Black bands appear on the top and bottom of the image when the image size is either [1080 30P] or
[720 30P].
• Continuous shooting is possible lor approximately 25 minutes.
• When shooting movies, the anti-blur fimction will be set on.
If itisdifficulttofocus on a subjectwhen shootingastill image
•The shortest shooting distance is approximately 50 cm (19 3/4 inches) (W)/100 cm (39 3/8 inches) (T)
(fi'om the fi'ont of the lens). When you are shooting a subject closer than that position, use Macro
(Shooting close-up) (page 16).
• When the camera does not focus on the subject automatically, the AE/AF lock indicator will flash slowly
and the beep sound is not heard. Recompose the fi'ame and locus on the subject again.
• Focusing may be difficult in the lollowing situations:
It is dark and the subject is distant.
The contrast between the subject and the background is poor.
The subject is seen through glass.
The subject is moving quickly.
There is reflective light or shiny surfaces.
The subject is backlit or there is a flashing light.

I W/T Using the zoom
Slide the zoom lever toward T to zoom ill,
slide the zoom lever toward W to zoom out.
You call use the Digital Zoom function by
selecting [Digital Zoom] in i_ (Camera).
When the zoom scale exceeds 5×, the
camera uses the Digital Zoom function.
I_Macro (Shooting close-up)
Press _l (_) on tile control button
repeatedly until the desired mode is
selected.
(No indicator): Auto
The camera adjusts the [_cus automatically on
subjects, from those distant to close-up.
Normally, set the camera to this mode.
_t: Macro
The camera adjusts the focus with priority on
subjects close-up.
Set the Macro on when shooting close
subjects.
• When shooting in Macro, the Auto Focus speed
slows down than usual.
• It is recommended to set the zoom all the way to
the W side.
• It is recommended to shoot in Macro when the
shooting distance is less than approximately
90 cm (3 feet).
I Using the video light
Press • (LIGHT) on the control button
repeatedly until the desired icon is
displayed on the LCD screen.
(No indicator): Video light off
_C_ON : Video light on
•The video light is lor assisting the recording in a
clark place, and therelore the same efli_ct as of a
normal flash of the camera cannot be expected.
• The video light turns off when the camera
switches to playback mode.
I_Using the self-timer
Press • (_e,)) on the control button.
(No indicator): Not using the self-timer
_): Using the self-timer
ff you press PHOTO, countdown timer is
displayed, and after rapid beep sounds are
heard, the camera will shoot.
I Recording in mirror mode
®
Open the LCD panel 90 degrees to the
camera (@), then rotate it 180 degrees to
the lens side (@).
•A mirror-image of the subject appears on the
LCD screen, but the image will be normal when
recorded.
• A mirror-image of the subject also appears on
the LCD screen if you keep the LCD panel
rotated 180 degrees and close the LCD panel
with the LCD screen li_cing out.
• The same image as those recorded appears on
the LCD screen instead of the mirror-image in
playback mode.

• Wizen shooting movies of last moving subjects, such as a sport scene, the movie may not be played
back smoothly.
• Wizen the playback of the first movie ends, the playback of the next movie automatically starts. Wizen
the playback of the last movie ends, playback of movies will end.
I To view an enlarged image (playback zoom)
Slide the zoom lever toward T while displaying a still image.
To undo the zoom, slide the zoom lever toward W.
Adjust the position: A/V/,/I_
Cancel playback zoom: Press O.

playback of a movie.

1Press _ (Play) button to set the camera to playback mode.
Index screen appears.
2Press L'=-"I/'_ (Delete) and select [Select] with A/V, then press O.

3Select the images you want to delete with &/V/'_/_', then press • to display the "_
(Delete) indicator on the selected image.
4 Press [_I/'_ (Delete).
5 Select [OK] with _', then press •.
• To delete all the images in the folder, select [All In This Folder] with &/V in step 2 instead of [Select],
then press O.
To delete images while a single image is displayed

I To view images on TV screen
The connection or the image quality (HD (high definition)/SD (standard definition)) varies
depending on the type of TV or input jacks the camera is connected to.

I To select images to upload on a website (Sharemark)

2Press MENU button and select [Select] with A/V, then press O.
3Select the images you want to upload on a website with A/V/'_/I_, then press • to
display _ indicator on the selected image.
4Press _ (Sharemark).

• To select all the images in the lolder, select tAll In This Folder] with A./Y in step 2instead of [Select],
then press O.
• The file size of movies shot at HD (high definition) is large and theretk_re it may take time to upload.
Movies shot at [VGA 30P] is recommended lor uploading on websites.
• To select images to upload on a website while a single image is displayed, display the image you want
to upload and press O (Sharemark) button. The g_ indicator is marked to the image.
• To remove the Sharemark from an image, select the image to remove the Sharemark and take the
same steps as when marking a Sharemark on an image.
• By using the software "PMB Portable" embedded in the camera, you can easily upload images
marked with Sharemarks (page 24).
