SPIKEBALL Spikebuoy User manual

What’s in the box?
Assembly
™
Leg Floats
with Straps (5)
Carrying/
Anchor Bag (1)
Assemble your Spikeball™set as you normally would.
1) Leg Floats + Legs
Slide each of the Spikeball™legs into a leg float. The Spikeball™
logo on the leg float should be on the outside and the straps
on the inside. When attached properly, the connection will feel
snug. Note: The leg float is two sided! Use the top side with a
standard Spikeball™leg. Flip the float over and use the under
side with a Pro leg.
2) Anchor Bag + Weight
Fill your anchor bag about a quarter of the way with sand,
smooth stones, or any other 3-4 lb item that doesn’t have
sharp edges e.g. 240 quarters or a large potato (fresh water
only, ask your HS science teacher). BE CAREFUL, SHARP
EDGES COULD TEAR THE BAG!
3) Anchor Bag + Leg Floats
Cinch the bag closed and adjust the straps to the
desired length. Note: It’s ok if your Anchor Bag
does not touch the ground while playing, but it
will work better if it does. Attach the leg floats to
the bag by clipping the 5 leg float straps into the
bag’s carabiner.
4) Spikebuoy™+ Water
You’re all set to play, but make sure that when
moving Spikebuoy™(on land and in water) you
pick up the Spikeball™set AND THE ANCHOR BAG.
You wouldn’t move your boat without pulling up
the anchor right?
Pro
Standard
We do too, but we’d recommend
reading on to ensure you’re getting
the most out of Spikebuoy™. A refresh-
er of the rules is on this side, how to
assemble your Spikebuoy™is on the
flip side.
Rules for playing in
water
We like playing standard rules with
two considerations:
1. If you’re playing in a pool, any shot
that lands outside the pool is no good,
and the other team’s point.
2. We have the most fun playing in
waist high water but it’s up to you. The
shallower the water, the easier it is to
run around.
Standard Rules
Teams
Two teams of two (four total). Each
team starts on opposite sides of the
net.
Serving
Standing at least 6 feet from the net,
Team One serves by tossing the ball in
the air and spiking it down on the net
towards Team Two. Team Two has up
to 3 hits (ie, ‘sets’ in volleyball) be-
tween them before they have to spike
it back on the net. You do not have to
use all 3 hits. This continues as a rally
until one team cannot return the ball.
Important: Once the ball is in play
there are no longer ‘sides.’ Players can
run and hit anywhere they want.
Scoring
1st team to 21 wins (must win by two).
Use rally scoring.
What about…..
- To avoid a brawl, the opposing team
must always put forth an honest effort
to get out of the way of the ‘hitting’
team. If someone is in the way, it’s
called a ‘hinder’ and the point is re-
played.
- If your shot hits the rim, it’s called a
‘Rimmer’ and the other team gets a
point.
- If your shot hits a ‘Pocket’ (a shot that
sort of hits the rim and sort of hits the
net) you keep playing the point. If there
is disagreement if a shot was a
‘Rimmer’ or a ‘Pocket,’ you should
replay the point.
- If the ball does not bounce off the net
with a single bounce, it is the other
team’s point.
- Body shots are legal but count as 1
touch. 1 body shot and then the ball
must go to your partner or on the net.
Note: When the net is new, it may get
‘saggy’ after a few games. Just unhook
the net in a few places, pull tight, and
re-hook.
Important: For adult use only (keep
away from small children); do not jump
on Spikebuoy™; do not eat Spikebuoy™
parts; do not stare at Spikebuoy™; do
not taunt Spikebuoy™; do not sleep
with Spikebuoy™. Consider yourself
warned.
