IMPORTANT!!
TO PROTECT THE TURNTABLE FROM DAMAGE DURING
TRANSPORTATION, IT IS LOCKED INTO POSITION WITH A SILVER
TRANSIT SCREW, LOCATED IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND
CORNER OF THE TURNTABLE PLATFORM.
BEFORE USING THE TURNTABLE, UNLOCK IT TO ALLOW THE
PLATTER TO “FLOAT” BY USING A SCREWDRIVER TO TURN THE
TRANSIT SCREW DOWN COMPLETELY, IN A CLOCKWISE
DIRECTION.
TO LOCK THE TURNTABLE AGAIN FOR TRANSPORTATION, TURN
THE SCREW IN AN ANTI-CLOCKWISE DIRECTION.
ADJUSTMENT FOR EARLY/LATE PICK-UP OF RECORD TONE ARM
Should you find that the record Tone Arm (2) is picking up before the end of the
record, this may be due to movement in transit or the extended non-standard
length of some records. Adjust the pick up time as follows:
1. Unplug the unit from the mains
supply.
2. Rotate the unit so you can access
the rear of the unit.
3. Use the screwdriver provided, and
insert this into the hole (30), as
indicated by the label on the back
of the unit. See Fig 1.
4. Shine a torch light or similar into
the second hole (31) to help locate
the adjustment screw. See Fig 2.
5. When playing a record the arm is
picking up too early, you need to
locate the screw as instructed
above, rotate the screw clockwise by approximately 1/4 turn only.
6. Reconnect the unit to the power supply.
7. Replay the record to see if the adjustment has been successful.
8. If the record still picks up too early, make another adjustment, as before, but
in very small movements. Remember to disconnect from the mains supply
before attempting this.
9. Should the unit fail to pick up, make the adjustment by rotating the screw
anti-clockwise - but again, only a very small movement is required.

5
UNPACKING AND SET UP
• Carefully remove the unit from the carton and remove all polystyrene and
other packing material from the unit. Please keep the box and all its packing
materials until you are fully satisfied all parts are working satisfactorily or in
case the unit needs returning for service.
• Unwind the AC power cord and extend it to its full length.
• Unwind the FM Antenna wire and extend it to its full length.
• Place the unit on a stable, level surface*, near a suitable AC outlet, out of
Direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess heat, dust, moisture,
humidity or strong magnetic fields. Note: * A matching stand is available for
purchase from your Dealer, Model STD E516.
• Lift up the lid to expose the Turntable. See label on deck and separate note
on how to close the lid.
• The Turntable has been secured for
transportation with a Transit Screw. Use a coin
or screwdriver to turn the transit screw clockwise.
This will allow the turntable to “float”.
• Remove the opaque white plastic stylus cover
from the stylus by sliding it forward and down.
• When transporting the unit it is advisable to refit
the stylus cover to protect the needle from
damage.
• Remove the twist-tie that was used to secure the
tone arm during shipment.
• Release the tone arm lock lever.
• Connect the 3-pin plug to your AC power outlet.

6
POWER SOURCE
This product is designed to operate on 230V 50Hz AC Mains only. Attempting to
operate this system from any other power source may cause damage to the
system, and such damage is not covered by your
warranty.
NOTE: You will note that this system is equipped with a
standard domestic AC power 3-pin plug. If this plug will
not fit into your outlet, you probably have an outdated
non-polarized AC outlet. You should have your outlet
changed by a qualified licensed electrician.
IMPORTANT
If the colours in the
Mains Lead of this
appliance do not
correspond with the
coloured markings
identifying the
terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
• The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which
is marked 'L' or coloured RED.
• The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is
marked 'N' or coloured BLACK.
DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE ‘E’ EARTH TERMINAL OF A 3-PIN PLUG
This appliance must be protected by a 3A fuse in a 13A Type (BS1363) plug.
Should you need to replace the fuse, use only a BS1362 fuse.
PROTECT YOUR FURNITURE
This model is equipped with non-skid rubber 'feet' to prevent the product from
moving when you operate the controls. These 'feet' are made from non migrating
rubber material specially formulated to avoid leaving any marks or stains on your
furniture. However certain types of oil based furniture polishes, wood
preservatives, or cleaning sprays may cause the rubber 'feet' to soften, and
leave marks or a rubber residue on the furniture. To prevent any damage to your
furniture we strongly recommend that you purchase small self-adhesive felt
pads, available at hardware stores and home improvement centres everywhere,
and apply these pads to the bottom of the rubber 'feet' before you place the
product on fine wooden furniture.
IMPORTANT: Raising and Lowering the Lid
To open the lid, raise it as far as it will go until the lid support bracket locks in the
open position. To close the lid, lift the lid upward slightly, pull the lid support
bracket slightly forwards, and then gently lower the lid.
TO AVOID DAMAGING THE CABINET OR THE LID, NEVER FORCE THE LID CLOSED.
ALWAYS RAISE THE LID TO RELEASE THE LID SUPPORT BRACKET.

18
CASSETTE CARE
Two common causes of trouble experienced when using cassettes are:
1. Tape jamming - leading to uneven speed in playback
2. Tape entangling - the tape wraps itself around vital parts of the mechanism.
To reduce the likelihood of these problems occurring, the following precautions
should be taken:
• Check that there are no loose layers of tape
visible through the cassette centre window
(see Fig. 1).
• Take up any loose layers, using a pencil or
ballpoint pen with hexagonal barrel, before
inserting the cassette into the machine
(see Fig. 2).
• If the cassette feels tight whilst performing the
operation shown in Fig. 2, the tape may be
jamming due to ridges formed during winding of
the tape (visible through the centre window).
These may be removed in most cases, by fast
winding of the cassette from one end to the other
and back again.
• Use only well-known brands of Cassette Tape. Avoid using C-120
Cassettes.
• Furthermore, do not expose cassettes to direct sunlight, dust or oil,
and do not touch the tape surface.

19
COMPACT DISC CARE
• To remove a disc from its storage case, press down on the centre of the case
and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges.
• Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s recorded
surface with a soft cloth. Unlike conventional vinyl or shellac records,
compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so
gently wiping with a soft cloth should remove most particles. Wipe in a
straight line from the inside to the outside of the disc. Small dust particles
and light stains will have absolutely no effect on sound reproduction quality.
• Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth. Never use
detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD
cleaning kit.
• Never affix labels to the surface of compact discs or write on them, except
very gently with specialist CD-R Pens.
CARE OF THE CABINET
You should care for the cabinet as you would care for any piece of fine furniture.
When the cabinet becomes dusty, wipe it with a soft, non-abrasive dusting cloth.
If the cabinet becomes smudged with finger prints, you may use any good
quality commercial dusting and polishing spray cleaner. However, we
recommend that you spray the cleaner onto your dusting cloth first and not
directly onto the cabinet to avoid getting any of the spray on the plastic or metal
parts.
