WATCHES
Florence, the city where I was born, has always been an inspiration for me.
Its geometry, architecture and art convey a sense of incorruptible balance in
the face of time. In the Battistero di San Giovanni, the Dome of Santa Maria del
Fiore and the Tribuna of the Uffizi, I rediscover references to the octagonal shape,
which I chose as a symbol of my company in 1972. This is why, when designing
my watch, I imagined eight essential chain links enveloping the radial symmetry
with a vertical axis, the expressions of time, its calendar or its dimensions. It is a
constant stream, guarded by the rational interpretation of a thread, of which only the
beginning can be defined. This woven thread, these details, these elements of the
timepiece all lose their physical connotations to become an entire tribute to Florence.
