FCC Notice
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,

This product has been designed and manufactured according to IEC 825-1 on the Safety of
Laser products. This product comes under “Class 1 Laser Products.” A Laser Caution
Marking is attached on the top of the internal drive model: “Caution: Invisible laser radia-
tion when open. Avoid direct exposure to beam.”

CRACKED, DEEPLY SCRATCHED OR DAMAGED DISC IN THIS OR ANY OTHER HIGH-SPEED
DRIVE MAY CAUSE THE DISC TO SHATTER AND RESULT IN DAMAGE NOT ONLY TO THE DISC

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

• NOTES: When connected to the computer via
a standard USB 1.1 port, the drive's maximum
write speed is 4X due to bandwidth limitations.
Connect to the computer via USB 2.0 for
write speed performance.

1.Insert the program installation CD into your computer’s original disc
drive.
2.Install the TDK CD Blender Software Suite by clicking on the desired
programs. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish installation.
3.Locate the USB 2.0 port on your PC.
4.Connect the flat end of the USB cable to the PC’s USB 2.O port.

5. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the back of your veloCD drive.
6. Connect the power cord to the back of your veloCD drive.
7. Connect the plug to a wall outlet or power strip.
8. Power on your veloCD drive using the switch on the back of the drive.
9. If your computer is on, a "New Hardware" window should appear. If a previously installed Hi-
Speed USB driver has already been recognized, follow the on-screen prompts. If the driver needs
to be installed, follow the instructions in the “INSTALLING THE HIGH SPEED DRIVER” section
following this page.
10. After installation, open the CD tray by pressing the EJECT button on the front of your drive.

To install the high speed USB driver:
1. Insert the TDK CD Blender Software Suite disc into your existing CD-ROM drive.
2. Connect the included USB 2.0 cable to your external drive and to a USB 2.0 port on
your PC, then power the drive ON.
• The “Add New Hardware Wizard” dialog box will appear.
3. Click NEXT.
4. Select "Search for the best driver …" and click NEXT.
5. Select only the “Specify a location” checkbox.
6. Click the BROWSE button.
• The BROWSE FOR FOLDER window will open.
7. Click on the plus (“+”) sign next to TDK_SUITE.
8. Click the plus (“+”) sign next to BONUS UTILITIES.
9. Click once to highlight the HIGH-SPEED USB DRIVER folder, then click on OK.
10. Click NEXT.
11. Follow the rest of prompts until setup is complete.
12. After setup is complete, re-boot the computer.
Your new veloCD drive is supplied with all the software you need to complete a vari-
ety of projects. Instructions on using the included software are supplied on the CD
Blender Software Suite disc (included with your veloCD). See the Digital MixMaster
User’s Guide (PDF format), the Digital MixMaster video (WMV format) and the Quick
Start Guide (PDF format). These support materials can also be downloaded from
www.tdk.com/support.
INSTALLING THE
HI SPEED DRIVER (WINDOWS 98SE AND WINDOWS ME)
USING VELOCD
NOTE: The high speed USB driver is
not required for Windows 2000 & XP instal-
lation.
NOTE: You cannot use your new
veloCD drive to install the high speed USB
driver. Use your existing CD-ROM drive to
install the high speed USB driver.
NOTE: During the high-speed USB
driver installation process, you may be
asked to insert the Windows installation
disc.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Verify that the drive is connected to a USB 2.0 port. If the drive is connected to
a USB 1.1 port, recording will be limited to 4x maximum speed.
Ensure that DMA is enabled (Windows 98SE/ME)
1. In Windows, click the START button, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Double click SYSTEM in the Control Panel folder, then select the DEVICE MANAGER
tab. You will see a list of devices in your system.
3. Click the CD-ROM icon, and choose your veloCD drive's PROPERTIES.
You will see the drive properties for the veloCD ReWriter.
4. Ensure that the DMA box is checked ON under the Settings tab.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for other devices that you will be recording from and
recording to such as your hard drive and/or a second CD-ROM or CD-Rewriter.
6. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
Ensure that DMA is enabled (Windows 2000)
1. Click the START button on the Windows taskbar.
2. Select SETTINGS and then CONTROL PANEL from the menu.
3. Double Click the SYSTEM icon in the Windows CONTROL PANEL.
4. Select the HARDWARE tab then click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
5. Click on the (+) sign beside IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS.
6. Right click on the appropriate IDE channel (Primary or Secondary), right click
PROPERTIES and select the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab.
7. Set the "Transfer Mode" to "DMA if available". Device 0 is the MASTER device
on the IDE channel and Device 1 is the SLAVE.
8. Click OK to accept the change and then reboot the computer for the
change to take effect.
To record at maximum speed, the drive must be connected to the computer's USB
2.0 port. If the drive is connected to a standard USB 1.1 port, the maximum record
speed will be 4X.
To record at your drive’s maximum speed, you must use media rated for that speed.
1. Check to see if there is enough space left on the disc including the lead in and
lead out for each session.
veloCD will not record at
maximum speed.

Can’t create a CD using CD-R or
CD-RW media.
Can’t hear an audio CD through the
veloCD headphone jack.
Can’t read a session after a
successful write.
Can’t eject the CD.
The drive does not power up.
The computer does not start up.
1. A buffer underrun occurred. Either select a slower speed or enable Buffer
Underrun Protection in your software.
2. Disable all other functions and applications that could interrupt the stream of
information.
3. Make sure that the media does not have any fingerprints, dirt or scratches
on the surface.
4. Check to see if the CD-RW already has data written on it.
Erase or format the CD-RW.
1. To get sound from the veloCD’s headphone jack, you must play back your audio
disc in analog mode. Check that the settings in your audio software are enabled
to allow analog playback.
1. See if you can read the disc in another CD-ROM player.
Directory information could be corrupt.
2. Make sure that you closed or finalized the session.
1. Shut down the computer and power off the drive, then power on the drive
and use the eject button.
2. If other methods failed, use the emergency eject hole. Use the supplied
emergency ejector pin by pushing it in the emergency hole in a steady manner
until the tray is released.
1. Make sure the drive is properly connected to a "live" outlet using the supplied
power cable or try reconnecting the cable.
1. Make sure the USB 2.0 interface card is installed properly.
Check the manual that came with the card for details.

1. Make sure the USB cable is fully connected at both ends.
2. Verify that the drive is properly connected to the computer using a working USB
cable.
3. Make sure the USB driver included in the Bonus Utilities folder on the CD
Blender Recording Software Suite program disc is installed. (See the section
about installing the included Hi-Speed driver.)
1. Verify that the disc was properly placed in the tray.
2. Is the disc surface dirty? Clean the disc surface using a lint-free cloth.
Wipe from the center of the disc to the edge.
3. Check if the drive accepts other discs.
1. Make sure the disc is supported by the drive.
2. If the drive automatically opens the tray to eject the disc, see the section titled
"The disc keeps ejecting."
3. Is the disc surface dirty? Clean the disc surface using a lint-free cloth.
Wipe from the center of the disc to the edge.
4. Check if the drive accepts other discs.
5. Make sure the LED lights properly when the disc is loading.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from your drive, leaving the power cable connected.
Eject the disc, reconnect the USB cable and try loading the disc again.
The veloCD drive is not recognized
by the operating system.
The disc keeps ejecting.
Can’t load the disc.
The drive fails to read the disc.

One Year Limited Warranty for Hardware
TDK Electronics Corporation ("TDK") warrants to the end-user customer that this data storage product, exclusive of software (referred to here-
in as "Hardware" or "Product") will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of purchase. If
TDK receives notice of any such defects during the warranty period, TDK will, at its option, either repair or replace the Product which it finds to
be defective at no charge (except for shipping and insurance). Repair of defective Product may be with either new or rebuilt replacement parts
that will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. Any exchanged parts under this warranty will become the property of
TDK. Replacement Product may be either new or reconditioned. If the Product is discontinued and no longer available, then it may be replaced
with Product determined by TDK to be of similar value and performance.
TDK DOES NOT AND CANNOT WARRANT THE PERFORMANCE OR RESULTS YOU MAY OBTAIN BY USING THE TDK BRANDED SOFTWARE, MEDIA OR
DOCUMENTATION.TDK MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO NONINFRINGEMENT OF THIRD PARTY RIGHTS, MERCHANTABILITY
OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Any software other than TDK Software included with the Product is supplied on an "AS IS" basis and without any representations or warranties
of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular pur-
pose, title and non-infringement. Please refer to any documentation included with such software for your rights and obligations with respect
to that software.
TDK does not warrant that the operation of the Product will be uninterrupted or error free. This Limited Warranty does not apply to defects
resulting from (1) acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, abnormal, or unusually heavy use; (2) improper installation, operation,
testing, or maintenance; (3) power failure or connection to improper voltage supply; or (4) attempted repair by any party other than TDK. This
Limited Warranty does not apply when the malfunction results from the use of the Product in conjunction with other products, software, or
accessories, or where it is determined by TDK that there is no fault with the Product itself. This Limited Warranty is invalid if the factory
applied serial number has been altered or removed from the Product.
This Limited Warranty extends only to the original end-user customer and is not transferable to any subsequent purchaser. This Limited
Warranty is valid only within the United States. For areas outside the United States, contact the authorized dealer from whom you purchased
the Product to determine what warranty, if any, applies.
In order to obtain warranty service, you must deliver the Product to TDK freight prepaid, in either its original package or packaging providing a
degree of protection equivalent to that of the original packaging, along with proof of purchase. [Please contact TDK at the number listed
below or in the manual for further information.]
TDK MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FIT-
NESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE EXTENT THAT ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES APPLY, DESPITE THEIR EXCLUSION UNDER THIS LIMITED
