What is Technics Music App?
This application is designed for making the operations and the settings of ST-G30.
It is also designed as a simple, user-friendly music playback app that enables you to
perform tasks such as selecting an audio source and playback device and creating a
playlist on your tablet or smartphone.

iPad / iPhone / iPod touch with iOS 7 or later
Android device with Android 4.1 or later

● Record tracks from a CD to the built-in SSD of ST-G30 with high-quality. Also, obtain the title and artist
information of the CD from the Gracenote®database.

Preparation
The following connection and setting are required before using “Technics Music App”.
1Connect ST-G30 to the router using the LAN cable, and turn the power on.
• For connection details, see the operating instructions supplied with ST-G30.
2Connect the tablet or smartphone to the router.
(1) Set Wi-Fi to ON at [Settings] of the tablet or
smartphone.
(2) Select the router (SSID) to which ST-G30 is
connected.
– For the SSID and password of the router, see
the operating instructions of the router.
(3) When the Wi-Fi antenna icon appears, the
connection is complete.

4Start up “Technics Music App”.
• Tapping the icon will start up the application.
5Select [Display On] at [ST-G30 Menu Display Settings].
• If [Display On] is not selected, ST-G30 cannot be operated.
• To hide [ST-G30 Menu Display Settings] from the next startup, set [Show this tutorial next time] to
[Off].
– Note this is displayed again when upgrading the version or reinstalling the application even if [Off]
is selected. Set again.

Store tracks to ST-G30

Record tracks from the CD
1Insert the CD to ST-G30.
• For how to insert a CD, see the operating
instructions supplied with ST-G30.
2Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Record from
CD].
• The Gracenote®logo is displayed for a few seconds,
and the title, artist information, etc. of the CD
to record are automatically obtained from the
Gracenote®database.
– It may take time to obtain the information.
– Obtaining the information requires the router to
be connected to the Internet.
– If more than one piece of information is found
on the database, the candidates are listed.
Select the information you wish to obtain from
the list.
– If the information is not present on the
Gracenote®database, it cannot be obtained.
If the information cannot be obtained, the
album name and artist name are registered
as [Unknown Album] and [Unknown Artist]
respectively.
– The title and artist information, etc. can be
changed by editing after recording. (⇒13)
3Tap [Start recording].
• The recording of all tracks starts.
• When the router is connected to the Internet, the
recording data is compared to the exclusive server
for the bit-perfect. Normal playback is not affected
even if the data is not bit-perfect.
Bit-perfect is the condition of the music data
without any interpolation.
The following icons will be displayed for the tracks
for which the recording is completed. If either of
the icons is displayed for all the tracks, the recording
is completed. If you record from the CD again, start
from step 1.
– [ ]:
Bit-perfect recording is completed.
– [ ]:
Recording is completed.
Tap the icon to check the cause that resulted in
failure of bit-perfect recording.

Import tracks from the USB device
1Connect the USB device to the USB terminal for
IMPORT / BACKUP of ST-G30.
• For how to insert a USB device, see the operating
instructions supplied with ST-G30.
2Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Import from
USB].
• It may take time to display the tracks in the USB
device.
3Select the track to import, and tap [Start import].
• You cannot select multiple tracks at the same time.
• Selecting [Select this folder] can import all the
tracks under the folder at a time.
• Selecting [Select root] can import all the tracks in
the USB device at a time.
4Tap [OK] on a confirmation screen.

Select the device for playback
When using the built-in USB-DAC device for playback, connect the device to the USB terminal for AUDIO
OUT of ST-G30 with the USB cable, and set the device for playback.

• For how to set a built-in USB-DAC device, see the operating instructions of the device.
1Tap [Music Server].
2Select your ST-G30.
• The name specific to the device is displayed.
3Tap the speaker icon.
4Select the device for playback.
• The built-in USB-DAC device connected to the USB
terminal for AUDIO OUT of ST-G30 is displayed at
[USB-AUDIO].
– The built-in USB-DAC device which is compatible
with the operations of Technics Music App will
be displayed as [Technics USB Audio]. When
using the other built-in USB-DAC device, it will
be displayed as [USB-DAC].
– The displayed built-in USB-DAC device can be
used only when playing back tracks stored to
the built-in SSD of ST-G30.
– When using the Technics built-in USB-DAC
device which has the network function, you
can adjust the volume of the device. Connect
the built-in USB-DAC device to the router for
adjustment. For how to connect to the router,
see the operating instructions of the device.
– Depending on the connected device, this
function may not work properly.

Play back the stored tracks
1Tap [Music Server].
2Select your ST-G30.
• The name specific to the device is displayed.
• Confirm that the connected built-in USB-DAC device
is in playable state.
3Select the tracks to play back.
• You can look for the stored tracks in both the
[Music] folder and [Folders] folder. Tap the folder to
display the tracks in the folder, and select the tracks
to play back.
• In the [Music] folder, ST-G30 distinguishes track
information and automatically creates folders to
sort out the tracks.
• In the [Folders] folder, the stored tracks are
allocated as below.
– Tracks recorded from a CD:
[Folders] > [CD] > artist name or album name
folder
– Tracks downloaded from Technics Tracks:
[Folders] > [DL]
– Tracks imported from a USB device:
[Folders] > [SHARE] > [Import] > folder with the
import date
• Tap the search icon when searching for tracks. The
tracks corresponding to the input characters will be
displayed after searching for artist names, album
names and track names in the stored tracks.

4Select the playback method on the pop-up screen.
• [Play Now]:
Starts to play back the selected track.
• [Play Next]:
Plays back after the track currently being played has
finished.
• [Clear Queue & Play Now]:
If a Play Queue is present, the queue is deleted and
playback starts.
• [Play Last]:
Registers as a last track on the Play Queue.
• [Play All Songs]:
Registers all the tracks in the folder of the selected
track to the Play Queue, and the playback starts
from the selected track.
Switching the playback screen
Tapping the album art or [More Info] on the tablet will
switch the playback screen.
Tapping [Now Playing] on the smartphone will switch the
playback screen.
Play Queue
On the tablet, [Play Queue] is displayed on the right side of
the screen.
On the smartphone, tap [ ] to display [Play Queue] if it is
not displayed.
• Tracks played back are added to [Play Queue]. Tapping
[+] can also add tracks to [Play Queue].
• Playback also starts by tapping the tracks in [Play
Queue].
• Tapping [Edit] can change the playback order, delete
tracks, or create a new local play list.

Edit or delete the stored tracks
In the editing menu, you can change the names, change the album art, or collect title information from
Gracenote®for the stored tracks.
Edit
1Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Edit].
2Select the track to edit.
• If changing the title, artist name, etc. to arbitrary
names by character input, tap [ ] > item you wish
to change.
– If changing [Artists], [Albums], [Album artist]
or [Genre], you can select whether to apply
the changes to all the tracks in the same folder
at a time. (When applying to all the tracks in
the same folder, be sure to confirm that all
the tracks are displayed in the folder before
application.)
• If changing the album art, tap [ ] > [Change album art].
– It can be changed to an image stored on your tablet or smartphone, or a new picture taken on
the spot.
– You can select whether to apply the changes to all the tracks in the same folder at a time. (When
applying to all the tracks in the same folder, be sure to confirm that all the tracks are displayed in
the folder before application.)
– Depending on the devices, this function may not be available. If it is not available, try to use
another photo application installed on the device.
• When collecting title information from Gracenote®, tap [Title Acquisition].
– Obtaining the information requires the router to be connected to the Internet.
– [Title Acquisition] is available only for some folders, such as [Albums] or [Artists] in the [Music]
folder.
– The information of the tracks can be obtained only when they are recorded from CDs and those
titles have never been obtained.
– The information of the tracks edited or deleted after recorded from CDs cannot be obtained.
– If more than one piece of information is found on the database, the candidates are listed. Select
the information you wish to obtain from the list.
– If the information is not present on the Gracenote®database, it cannot be obtained.

Delete
1Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Delete].
2Display the tracks to delete, and tap [Delete].
3Select the tracks to delete, and tap [Next].
• A confirmation screen appears. Tap [OK] to delete.

Change the settings of ST-G30
Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Settings].
Recording setting
Changes the compression rate when recording tracks from CDs.
• Higher the FLAC Level, higher the compression ratio. Change the setting as desired.
Technics Tracks
Downloads the tracks purchased at Technics Tracks.
Set the E-mail address, password, country setting at [User Info Setting]. Register your E-mail address,
password on the homepage of Technics Tracks.

• This service is available for the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. (as of January 2016)
• Downloading the tracks requires the router to be connected to the Internet.
• Setting [Auto dl settings] to [On] will check purchased tracks approx. every hour, and download them
automatically.
• Select [Start dl now] to start downloading immediately.
LED dimmer
Dims or turns off the LED on the front panel of ST-G30. (Default setting is [Standard].)
• Change the setting as desired.
LAN LED ON/OFF
Turns off the LAN LED on the rear panel of ST-G30. (Default setting is [On].)
• Change the setting as desired.
• The LAN LED illumination shows the communication status. Selecting [Off] will not illuminate the LED
even during communication.
LAN speed
Changes the maximum speed of LAN.
• Change the setting as necessary.
Amount of SSD used
The used capacity and available space of the built-in SSD can be checked.

Network
Changes the network setting.
• Change the setting as necessary.
• Default setting of [File share] is [On]. Setting [File share] to [On] will allow you to access ST-G30 from an
external device such as a PC via network. (⇒17)
For how to operate an external device, see the operating instructions of an external device.
Date and time
Use this to correct the clock built in ST-G30. (Default setting is [Off].)
• Confirm that the time on your tablet or smartphone is accurate, and set [Sync with device time] to [On].
Backup/Restore
Backs up the data in the built-in SSD of ST-G30 to the USB device, or restores the backed-up data to the SSD.
Follow the on-screen instructions to operate.

• Connect the USB device to the USB terminal for IMPORT / BACKUP of ST-G30. (It may take time to
detect the USB device.)
• Depending on the data amount, it may take much time to back up and restore.
• Backup:
– Back up the data periodically as necessary.
– Before backup, check the usage of the SSD in [Amount of SSD used], and the USB device has free
space enough to back up the usage of the SSD.
– The backed-up data is saved in the [BACKUP] folder of the USB device. If the backup is cancelled or
stopped due to the insufficient free space of the USB device, a folder with “-fail” added at the end of
the folder name will be created.
• Restore:
– The built-in SSD of ST-G30 will be formatted automatically before restoring the backed-up data of the
USB device. If formatted, all the stored data are erased.
– If the backup is performed more than once, the backup data is displayed from new to old.
Initialize (format of SSD, etc.)
Erases the user information of Technics Tracks, or formats the built-in SSD of ST-G30 or connected USB
device.
• If formatted, all the stored data are erased.
• The USB device is formatted in NTFS.
ST-G30 version
ST-G30 software version can be confirmed.
ST-G30 Firmware update
Updates the software of ST-G30 manually.
• Updating the software requires the router to be connected to the Internet.
• Searches for updatable software, and starts updating if it is found.
• A message may appear to prompt you to update the software. Use the latest version of software.

Accessing ST-G30 from PC
(File sharing function)
Operating your PC, you can access ST-G30 via network, and copy or edit the folders or tracks. The copied
tracks can be played back on [Music Server] of “Technics Music App”.
• You can access [CD], [DL] and [SHARE] folders of ST-G30 from your PC.

Enabling the file sharing function
1Tap [ST-G30 Menu].
2Select your ST-G30.
• The name specific to the device is displayed.
3Tap [Settings] > [Network] > [File share].

4Set [File share] to [On].
• There is no default setting for the password. Input
of user name (User) is required in accessing ST-G30
from PC. If the password is set, input of password
is also required in accessing ST-G30 from PC. Make
this setting as necessary.
• User name (User) cannot be changed.
• If you have forgotten the password, set the
password again.

Troubleshooting
Sound is interrupted during playback.
Confirm that the LAN speed has been set to [Automatic (up to 1Gbps)]. ([ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection >
[Settings] > [LAN speed])
Cannot record from a CD.
CDs that cannot be used:
• CDs with irregular shapes, such as heart shapes (Use of such CDs may cause malfunction.)
CDs that are not guaranteed to operate:
• Discs with illegally copied data and those that do not conform to industry standards
• DualDiscs (Discs that record data such as music and images on both sides)
Supported disc formats:
Commercially available CDs (CD-DA)
CD-R/CD-RW (CD-DA)
CD-R/CD-RW (MP3) ×
CD-R/CD-RW (WMA) ×
The title or artist information cannot be obtained from Gracenote®. /
Information cannot be obtained even if tapping [Title Acquisition].
Obtaining the information requires the router to be connected to the Internet.
Only the information of the tracks recorded from CDs can be obtained.
If the information is not present on the Gracenote®database, it cannot be obtained.
If the information cannot be obtained, use the editing function to change the titles, artist names, etc. (⇒13)
Tracks stored by recording or importing are not displayed.
It may take some time to register the stored tracks.
When writing is being performed from the PC simultaneously, wait until the writing is completed, and then
check the display.
Your ST-G30 is not displayed on the device selection screen.
Depending on the usage environment, it may take some time to display.
Confirm that your device and ST-G30 are connected on the same network.
Check if ST-G30 is turned on.
Restart the application.
If the problem persists, reset ST-G30 to the factory defaults. For the reset method, see the operating
instructions supplied with ST-G30.
Edited or deleted tracks are not applied on the display.
Depending on the usage environment (10000 or more of tracks are stored in ST-G30, etc.), it may take some
time to apply the change.
If the change is not applied, return to the home screen, and operate again.

Downloading does not start from Technics Tracks.
Downloading the tracks requires the router to be connected to the Internet.
You cannot re-download tracks that were once downloaded even if deleted.
Tracks may not be downloaded unless the clock built in ST-G30 is accurate. Confirm that the time on your
device is accurate, and synchronize the time. (Tap [ST-G30 Menu] > Device selection > [Settings] > [Date and
time], and set to [On].)
[ST-G30 Menu] is not displayed.
Tap [ ] > [ST-G30 Menu Display Settings], and select [Display On].
The icon of [ST-G30 Menu] is not displayed on the home screen.
Depending on your device, the icon of [ST-G30 Menu] may be out of the screen due to the visible area. Move
the other icons up so the icon of [ST-G30 Menu] can be displayed.
The application is not responsive.
Restart your device.
