SW-218EB
1.2. Overview the SW-218EB Subwoofer
The Tecnare© SW218EB is a high-power output subwoofer designed to extend the low-end of Tecnare
loudspeakers and it defined by its sonic linearity in low frequency at high, continuous output levels with very low
distortion.
In a optimally front-loaded vented en-
closure houses two high-excursion 18-inch cone
drivers. The SW218EB operates from 28 Hz. The
excursion capability and a flared optimized port
ensure a high SPL and drastically reduce low-fre-
quency turbulence and port noise. All of this al-
lowing it to integrate seamlessly with line arrays,
curvilinear arrays and point source loudspeakers.
The SW218EB utilize the all Tecnare T20-
44 amplifier power. The Tecnare T20-44 ensures
maximum driver protection and advanced crosso-
ver functions minimizing the risk of damage to the
loudspeakers while yielding high constant output under high continuous and peak power conditions.
The SW218EB is prepared to work in a conventional setup as well as arranged in a cardioid subwoofer con-
figuration by combining physical deployment and the suitable preset. The on-board library on T20-44 amplifiers offer
standard or cardioid preset, each available with three low-pass filters to accommodate different coupling require-
ments.
The cabinet is assembled with 18mm ply Baltic birch and has a weather resistant paint finishes (Polyurea
Protection), properly braced for intended use. The front of the cabinet is protected by a hex-stamped steel grille
featuring a speakon™ NL4 connector to avoid in a cardioid setup its cabling to be seen by the audience. Protective
runners are included on the bottom ensure securely align with the cabinet’s top slots. It feature eight handles.
The optional TRK-218EB rigging kit, available as a factory installed option allow the loudspeaker to be flown
from THV-218EB top grid in vertical arrays of normally or reversed for cardioid configurations up to 16 units.
The low distortion, coupled with exceptional headroom and optimized rigging options, makes the SW218EB
the ideal companion for large-scale tours and installations in stacked or flown deployment and a flexible tool for low-
end directional applications

1.3. Connections
SW-218EB loudspeaker utilizes Neutrik® SpeakON® connectors. There are two NLT4 connectors on the
rear of each SW-218EB and one NLT4 connector on the front. These connectors mate with Neutrik NL-4 or NL-4
compatible in-line cable connectors. Only two pins of both connectors are wired in par-
allel. The following subsections describe the electrical connections.
The SW-218EB uses the pin assignment 1+/1+. Under special order, the cus-
tomer can required the assignments 2+/2- and appoint the pin 1+/1- to TOP cabinets.

SW-218EB
1.4. Processing and amplification
Only operate Tecnare loudspeaker with a correctly configured Tecnare preset. Tecnare offer a complete
solution that guarantees the highest level of performance. A complete range of controllers, amplified and amplified
controller with DSP are available to get this objective. Otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the loudspeaker com-
ponents.
1.4.1. Processing
The Tecnare DP4896 is the approved processor for use with the SW-218EB loudspeaker. Refer to
DP4896 user manual.
1.4.2. Amplification
To power Sub Series, Tecnare recommends amplifiers with the power ratings enough to feed the loud-
speakers. For high power or live applications, it is recommended to oversize the amplifiers relative to
the nominal AES output of the subwoofers. In certain specific cases it is possible to slightly under-power
the subs or loudspeakers as long as the amplifier will not be driven to its limits.
In any case, the Tecnare processors should be deployed in front of the amp to ensure that the amplifiers
to not go into clip.
The T20-44 amplifier is the ideal companion for maximum performance of the Sub Series loudspeakers.
This amplifier controller with DSP offer a complete both preset and protection solution for any applica-
tion. We recommend that the SW218EB subwoofer only be driven by the T20-44 amplifier.
The DP4896 processors & TSeries amplifier include:
- RMS Limiter
- Thermal protection from power surges or overload
- Excursion displacement protection
- Multiband limiting for passive 2-way enclosures
1.5. Operation modes
The SW-218 loudspeaker can be operated in three each operation modes for standard or cardioid opera-
tions. The operation mode is chosen in the system amplifier.
i. Upper limit frequency at 100Hz
When the cabinet are located remotely from other Tecnare cabinet or when the maximum distance
between two adjacent acoustic centres is not more than 1,7m [66.93”] the SW218EB preset can be
selected.
ii. Upper limit frequency at 80Hz
When combining a line source or point source loudspeakers and the distance between two adjacent
acoustic centres is not more than 2,1m [82,68”] the SW218EB_80 preset can be selected.
iii. Upper limit frequency at 70Hz. Infra mode
If the SW-218EB is used for extending the lower limit frequency and the cabinets are close to other
subwoofer operation in Infra mode is recommended. SW218EB_70 can be selected. In Infra mode the
upper limit frequency of the subwoofer is significantly lower.
Their corresponding cardioid preset setting are available for a reverse subwoofer configuration.

2. LOUDSPEAKER SETUP
2.1. Standard Operation
The standard operation corresponds to the use of subwoofers as single elements or as standard subwoofer
arrays.
In this configuration the system operates with an omni-directional or quasi-omni-directional directivity pattern.
The (SW218EB), (SW218EB_80) and (SW218_70) factory presets provide to the subwoofers an upper fre-
quency limit at 100Hz, 80 and 70Hz respectively in order to optimize the coupling with main system or if other sub-
woofer are being used.

2.2. Cardioid Operation
SW-218 subwoofer can be configured in cardioid arrays to reduce the amount of output heard behind the
subwoofers. Subwoofer cardioid arrays are archived by placing three units coplanar to each other with one unit facing
the opposite direction. The output of the reversed subwoofer cancels the output of the other subwoofers normally
present behind the units.
Tecnare has specifically designed cardioid presets (SW218EB_i, SW218_80i and SW218_70i). However, we
recommend calculating the appropriate ratio of forward to rear facing loudspeakers, as well as the measurement of
required parameter setting of polarity, delay, and gain. For more information, contact Tecnare Technical Support.

SW-218EB
3. LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTION
Tecnare® Sound Systems recommended operating the SW-218EB loudspeaker together Tecnare loud-
speaker controllers.
Tecnare® only recommends using preset/amplifier developed by Tecnare, otherwise there is a risk of damag-
ing the loudspeaker components. DP Series Loudspeaker Controller, PA Series amplifier and T-Series amplifier are
ideal for this purpose.
Ensure that the right preset was selected before connecting the loudspeaker with the amplifier.
Operating with an incorrect preset can damage part of the loudspeaker.
Ensure that the amplifier is properly size according to requirements. Under-power or oversize power amplifier
without the supervision of an expert may damage the loudspeaker.
Please note the technical specification section.
3.1. Connection to T20-44
MAXIMUM OF 04 ENCLOSURES PER T20-44
01 x SW-218EB can be connected to each output channel on the T20-44. Therefore, a single T20-44
amplifier controller can drive up to 04 enclosures.
See the preset manual connect the reverse subwoofer to use the cardioid preset.
Impedance load: 4Ωfor 1 enclosure.

Transport & Storage
www.tecnare.com
Subwoofer Series | rev.:1.0
SW-218EB
4. TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
As the Tecnare SW-218EB loudspeaker weighs over 90kg (198,41 lbs), four people are needed to move and
transport the unit.
To transport the unit whit a single person, Tecnare recommends using the optional front wooden dolly.
For touring and portable systems or if the system is using the TRK-218EB rigging kit , the SW-218EB can
travel in stacks of up three units with an optional caster frame.
When transporting and storing the unit, it is important to ensure that the finish and front steel grille of the
loudspeaker are not damaged. Moisture can penetrate through exposed wood surfaces and cause the wood to swell.
A bent or broken front grille will no longer adequately protect the sensitive speaker membranes.
In addition, appreciable dust deposits may considerably impair the functionality of a loudspeaker membrane.
For this reason, the loudspeakers should be transported and stored in a safe, careful, dry and largely dust-free man-
ner.
Durable protective covers for one unit and accommodating stacks of two or three units are optionally availa-
ble to ensure the SW218EB is completely road ready.
Other options include weather protection and custom colour finishes for fixed installations and applications
with specific cosmetic requirements.
The original packaging don’t should use as permanent storage and transport packaging.
