INSTALLAnON OFTHE CASSETIE
Your MessagePhone is supplied with amicrocassette tape for the incoming message tape. Take up any slack
in your cassette before installation. Rotate the tape reel with a penCil, as shown in the figure.
1. Pick up the handset and open the cassette compartment cover.
2. Push the microcassette back deeply and press the front part down placing the record-
ing side up.

PROGRAMMING THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS IN THE MEMORY STATION
You can store 10 telephonenumbersforthe SPEED DIAL. 2telephone numbersfor the ONE-TOUCH
DIAL and 1telephonenumberforthe AUTO-PAGING.
1. Press the RESET button. W

3. Press the SPEED DIAL button. You will hear a beeptone and ON-HOOK lamp will
flash.
4. Press the DIAL button ( 0-9, I ,II ) as a memory station numberfor speed dialing.

Memory Battery Backup
In orderto backup the inside memory at apower failure, the MessagePhone has a built-in
rechargeable battery. The term ot backing up the memory is 1hour with full charge.

RECORDING YOUR OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT AND ITS PLAYBACK
Your message may be any lengthupto 32 seconds.
We suggestthatyoupracticeyourmessage beforeyoutry recording.

You may recordthe announcement as many times as you like. Eachtimeyou record,theprevious an-
nouncementisautomaticallyerased.
Soundcheerfulandnatural. Besureyourannouncementis notabrupt.Yourcallers need an explanation or
whatyou want them to do, andthenthey may requirea couple or seconds to think overtheirresponse.

A. If the IN-USE lamp blinks when you press the ANSWER button, the Remote Security Code might not
be enteredJn the memory. If so, enter the Remote Security Code.
B. The MessagePhone will not answer any call If the message tape is fully occupied.
C. Ifthe MessagePhone has received a message, itwill answer at the first ring. If no new message has .
been received, it will take three rings to answer. (TOLL SAVER FEATURE).

WHEN YOU RETURN (PLAYING BACK INCOMING MESSAGE)
Ifthe ANSWER lamp is blinking when you retum home, you have received at least one call, or new messages
have been recorded sincethe last time you called in. If no new messages are recOIded, the ANSWER lamp will
stay lit.
Release the ANSWER mode by pressing the RESET button.
To playback the Incoming messages:

1. Press and hold the PLAY /REW button during the playback ofthe message.

the phone.

MONITORING A CALL BEFORE you ANSWER
1. Press the ANSWER button. Set the Volume Control to a suitable sound level.

2. When a caller calls in, you will hearthe outgoing message (announcement) and then the
caller's voice
while he is leaving his message through the speaker.
3. Ifyou want to talk with the caller, justpick up the phone and talk with him as you would
normally.

KEEPING -rHE RECORDED MESSAGES
To retain the .old messagesand still takethenew messageswhile you are out. thebest way istousethe
othersideofthe tape. Howeverif
you want to usethe same side of thetape:
1. Press the PLAY button and let the tape play on until you hear the last message you
wish to keep.
2. Press the RESET button and remove the incoming message tape.

USING AS A MEMO RECORDER
You can use the MessagePhone as a memo recorder to leave a message for your secretary. family or
friend like an electronic bulletin board, on the incoming messagetape. The message will be played back
even from
remote location using the remote control operation.
To record memo message:
1. Press the ANSWER button.

2. Press the MEMO/2-WAY button. Speak your memo message into the Microphone
when the RECORD lamp turns on. WE.MOI2.WAY

3. When the recording has been completed, press the MEMO/2-WAY button again. The
RECORD lamp will turn off.

PLAYING
BACK MEMO MESSAGE
The ANSWER lampblinkswhenamemomessageis recordEid onthetape.
1. Press the PLAY button without pressing the RESET button.
(NoTE)
The tape automatically rewinds, you win hear memo message and incoming messages if
received during your absence. After all the messages are played back, you will hear several
short beep tones and stop.
2. Ifyou want to repeat. press the PLAY button again. Successively, the MessagePhone
goes into the
ANSWER mode.
(NOTE)
A. Don't press the RESET buttonwhenyou playmemo message. Ifyou press the RESET button,the
ANSWER modewill be cancelledatthe same time.
B. Quick rewindingandfastforwarding are also possIlIeCUing playback.

6-REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION
You can control your MessagePhone remotely from any Touch-Tone pnone without any beeper orfrom any
Pulse Dial Phone using a pocket Tone Dialer.
REMOTE CONTROL PLAYBACK
You can control your MessagePhone remotely from any touch-tone pnone without any beeper orfrom any
pulsedial phone using a pocket tone dialer.
1. Call your phone number to which the MessagePhone is connected.
2. The MessagePhone answers a call
at first ring if the MessagePhone has received at
least one message. When the MessagePhonedoes not answer at first ring, you can
hang
up before third ring, knowing that there are no additional messages since the
last time you checked. (Toll-Saverfeature).
3. You will hearthe outgoing announcement.
4. While
the announcement is sounding, enteryour security code. Press the Dial button
one the telephone or Tone Dialer.
If
code is correct, the MessagePhone will emit a long beep of about 4 seconds, and
stop the outgoing announcement. If this does nottake place, try sending the security
code again.
5. The MessagePhone will automatically rewind the incoming message
tape to the
beginning
of the new messages and start playback.
6. When
the tape reaches the end of messages, the MessagePhone sounds an
intermittent beep
for 4 seconds. The MessagePhone isthen silent for 10 seconds.
7. You can command
the MessagePhone to do various taks during this 10 seconds
command state.
If you do not send any command, as when the call is accidentally
disconnected.
the MessagePhone will emit a final beep of 2 seconds and disconnect
the call.

When no new message is recorded on the tape under remotecontrol playback. you will hear the
intermittenl beep soon after the playbackhasbeenstarted.

If youwant to listen to the messages againfrom the beginning or thetape. Pressthe Dial button2 during
playback.
Thetaperewinds to the beginning or the tape and playS back the messagesfrom the beginning.
Whilethetapeisrewinding, an intermittentbeeptonewillbeheard.
(NOTE)
A. Some telephone sounds avery short tone even if a Dial button is pressed for long time. In this case,
rewind or fast forward of the tape by remote control is practically difficult becausethe button should be
pressed many times repeatedly. Therefore press the Dial button 2 instead and listen to the message from
the beginning or the tape.
B. The MessagePhone will disregard the Dial button remote command during the period that the message
end beep sounds. Therefore pressthe Dial button after the beep disappears.
OTHER USEFUL REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS
When the MessagePhone reaches theend of the messages, an intelllittent long beep sounds. The
MessagePhone isthen silent for 10 seconds. You can command the MessagePhone to do various tasks
during this 10seconds which we call ·COMMAND
MODE". When you press two buttons in sequence, press
continuously without pause in between. Pause will make afunction disable.

To set the answer mode:
1.CaIl the MessagePhone.
The MessagePhone will answer after 45 I8COI'lds through 75 seconds.
2. Enter your security code.
3. During 10 seconds COMMAND MODE. press the Dial button 5# in sequence.
A4-second beep informs you that the MessagePhone is reedy to receive a call.
To reset the answer mode:
1. During 10 seconds COMMAND MODE, press the Dial button 5# in sequence.
You can hear an intermittent beep.
2. You will hear an intermittent beep for2 seconds while the tape rewinds andthenfinal beepfor2 seconds
to disconnect the line.The message tape is rewomdtothe beginning and new messagewill be recorded
from
the beginningofthetape.
To tum off the answer mode:
1.During the 10 second COMMAND MODE, press the Dial button 5* in sequence.
You can hear an intermittent beep.
Ifyou want to leave a memo for your secretary or your own reminder after you have heard all the message.
1. During the 10 seconds COMMAND MODE, press the Dial button 6.
2. After an intermittent beep sounds, speak yQI message over the phone. Your mes-
sage will be recorded on the incoming message tape.
3. When you finish speaking, hang up the phone.
