1.1 Information related to this manual
This Instruction and Maintenance manual owns all the important information about the use of
your TESSIER®product. In order to use it the safe way and enjoy all of its performances,
please read carefully this manual and pay attention to the security advises and maintenance
advises.
If you have visual disturbance, or for any other reason, you can ask us the pdf version of the
manual and zoom it according to your convenience.

1.4 Intented use
The SCARVER™ is a ski frame dedicated to a Solo use (autonomous). That means
the user skies alone and uses a pair of outriggers to keep his balance.
The SCARVER™ is configurable and can be affected by accessories which allow
adjusting the position and the comfort of the user. The adjustments and the options
are described later in this manual.
The SCARVER™ has been designed in order to ski on marked slopes or on freeride
lines, at the condition to be accompanied by a qualified mountain professional and to
take the lifts according to the homologation notice delivered by the “Service
Technique des Remontées Mécaniques et des Transports Guidés”(STRMTG),
division of the Ministry of Transport, Equipment, Tourism and Sea.
The SCARVER™ must be used after a formation by a competent sitski instructor and
aware of the procedure to take the lifts.
TESSIER®products can be used on a temperature range of -20 to +35 °C. While
using the equipment out of this range, pay closer attention to the elements during the
check-up phase.
Anyone using TESSIER®products must be correctly retained in the seat. Our 7 sizes
(children and size 1 to 6) allow fitting most of morphologies. The minimal recommended
age is 10 years old, at the condition to be comfortably installed in the seat while being
well retained.
Skiing and mountaineering environment in general can be potentially dangerous. Be
sure to master and control your SCARVER™, responsible of your speed and aware
of the risks you take. Respect the security notices, the specific ski resort rules and the
general mountaineering laws.

2 PRESENTATION AND INSTRUCTION OF USE
You have chosen the ultimate Uniski / Dualski designed and manufactured by TESSIER: The
SCARVER™. You have made the right choice!
Since 1995, TESSIER products are the fruit of a great passion and their quality, their
performances and the innovations from which they rise-in made their reputation.
We wish you all the possible pleasure on tracks or in slalom gates.
Enjoy your ski!
The TESSIER Team
The SCARVER™ is a high performance equipment intended to skiers who have a good level
in sit-ski or taking part in competitions.
The goal of the following explanations is not to teach the user how to ski but to give basic
advices for the use, the adjustment and the maintenance of this equipment.
2.1 Recommendations
The performance and security of the SCARVER™ depend on its condition. It is thus
important to look after it correctly and to pay attention to the following points:
Pay attention to your equipment and be attentive to any dysfunction to remedy it rapidly.
Respect the original assembly of the parts during reparation. If needed, do not hesitate to
contact us.
Check your skis condition and make them checked by a professional if needed.
The security of the skier depends on his formation level, his caution and his protection. It is
thus important to respect these different points :
Do not begin alone; learn with an association, a specialized club or an instructor specifically
trained to sit skiing.
Keep a security merge so as you always control your speed and your trajectory, and avoid
collapsing with other users of the slope.
Stay focus while you are using lifts.
Wearing your helmet is mandatory.
Respect the 10 rules of FIS of skier behavior (available online).
To limit the risks linked to skiing, it is also necessary to respect the following advises :
A good functionality of your upper members is required, in order to be able to ski
autonomously. A contraindication is applicable concerning people with cognitive troubles,
shoulder troubles or back trouble. The upper members’condition must be good enough not
to limit the skier in his movements.
In order to avoid any irritation, the users will pay attention to wear appropriate clothing to
avoid direct contact with the equipment. The skiers must wear mountain shoes or boots to
protect them against cold and shocks. This is particularly important for people who do not
have feelings on all members.
During the transfer phase to get in your seat, always be sure to be on a flat ground, and
assisted by one or several helpers: the frame is not designed to be balanced in all
conditions.

2.2 Choice of skis
Just as a standing skier, the choice of the skis will depend of the type of practice, the weight
and the ski level of the skier.
With the Uniski all the weight is evenly distributed over one single board. For this reason,
it is advisable to use either top quality or competition skis that are designed to support
significant mechanical constraints. This choice means that the Uniski can work effectively
and will increase the lifespan of the ski compared to one of an inferior quality. Just like for
an able-bodied person, this will depend on the type of ski used and also the weight and
ability of the skier. Experience has shown us that it is necessary to use a ski with an
identical size as one used by an able-bodied skier of the same weight and ability.
With a Dualski, the weight is distributed on both skis. Our own experience has shown us
that it is necessary to use skis that are approximately 10 cm shorter in relation to an
able-bodied person of the same weight and ability. For leisure use, medium range skis
are sufficient and are often more efficient than competition skis “too hard” on which a
“Dualskier” could hardly put enough pressure to use their potential.
In Uniski and Dualski, a rigorous sharpening of the edges of the ski is indispensable,
especially on hard snow.
IMPORTANT
It is important to control your skis before each ride and to make them carried on
properly by a competent professional.
2.3 Choice of bindings
The bindings to use depend on the skier’s weight and ability. It is essential that the
equipment never comes out of the ski while skiing that is why the bindings must always be
adjusted to their maximum level.
With the Uniski, the constraints on the binding are high. We recommend bindings that can
be adjusted up to 18 DIN or more. Note that “Pivot” type bindings are well adapted to the
Uniski because they tolerate punctual overloads.
With the Dualski, the weight is shared on the 2 bindings. Our advice is to use bindings
with a minimum setting of 14 DIN.
WARNING
It is mandatory to use bindings which are resistant enough, adjusted to the
maximum and correctly set by a professional.
2.4 Mounting the bindings onto the skis
The foot piece fitting the skis is 325 mm in length.
Mounting is usually the same as for a shoe of an identical length: the middle of the foot piece
must be aligned with the marker of the ski.
CAUTION
We recommend you not to take off the anti-sliding ear, and to contact us if it
does not fit to your bindings.

3 USE OF CHAIRLIFTS AND T-BAR LIFTS
In France, the SCARVER™ has authorization - N° AVMH_779_08_B for the use of chairlifts
and ski lifts. The attachment mechanism « TESSIER harness system » has received
authorization N° AVMH_734_99_C.
These authorizations are delivered by the « commission des matériels de ski assis »
(committee for seated skiing equipment) presided over by the STRMTG (division of the
Ministry of Transport, Equipment, Tourism and Sea).
They are available on request.
Also, the French disabled sports Federation has set out regulations for sitskiing.
WARNING
Do never use a lift without authorization from its operator.
3.1 Use of draglift or T-bar lifts
3.1.1 Harnesses description
Since 2012, TESSIER offers 3 types of harnesses:
The « standard » harness for draglifts with « plate ».
It is also usable for draglifts with « T-bars ».
The « T-bar » harness, easier, for bows.
It is homologated in France only for bows and is not allowed on draglifts with plates.
The « T-bar + flange » harness for all types of draglifts.
WARNING
A helper must be before the sitskier, and ready to push the emergency stop
button in the arriving area in the case of a dysfunction of the harness. This is a
condition for the homologation to be valid.
Using the harnesses
The concept is the same for the three harnesses:
A main release of the harness: traction of the main rope releases the snap hook which
unleashes the rope or flange (in function of the harness).
A security release: traction of the rope held on the other hand leads to the release of the
harness. This release is used in the case of a dysfunction of the main release, loose of
the rope or any other case.

Installation of the harness on the
SCARVER™
1. Fix the 2 snap hook (1) to the
fixing points on the frame (2).
It is necessary to remove a
snap hook to take place in
the seat.

pass between the seat and
the strap of the backrest (4).

« Standard » harness
The main release rope (4) allows opening the flange (1) and unleashes the seat of the pole.
It must not be attached to the hand but simply held between the hand and the handle of the
outrigger because it goes with the flange when releasing the security snap hook.
The security snap hook rope (5) must go around the wrist and held on the handle of the
outrigger as a strap.
Flange + T-bar harness
The use is similar to the « standard » harness.
The main release rope (4) allows opening the flange (1) and
releases the seat of the pole. It must not be attached to the
hand but simply held between the hand and the handle of the
outrigger because it goes with the flange when releasing the
security snap hook.
The security snap hook rope (5) is used in this configuration as
a security release. In this case, one of the ropes is not used,
and must be stowed on the side of the seat. In the case of a
release, the hook of the rope will go through the hanging hook (1C) of the flange. (see photo
on the right).
T-bar harness
The rope (2) goes from any side of the T-bar, closer to the pole. The releasing ropes are held
as poles straps on each hand (6). The other rope (6) is used as security release.

3.1.2 How to use the skilifts?
General Case :
- The skier must have in his possession the identification sheet of the harness system with
specifications in order to be able to show that it is conform.
- It is compulsory that a helper leaves first and is in a position of stopping the ski-lift,
using the emergency button, in the event of a malfunction of the harness system. This
is a condition of the authorization’s validity.
For « standard » harness or « flange + T-bar » harness:
- The sitskier must prepare his harness before arriving in front of the operator. The
flange must be closed. A plastic adjuster is used to set the flange. It must be as closed as
possible and just let the plate of the skilift goes through.
- The operator must use the manual starting mode, or stop the skilift if it is not able to go
slowly.
- He inserts the plate through the flange.
- When starting, the operator must place the flange on the plate and maintain the plate
on the front of the flange. This will allow a good functioning of the slipknot of the harness.
- On skilifts equipped with a T-bar instead of the plate, pass the flange on one or the other
side of the T-bar and place it near the center of the pole.
- The rope of the release karabiner must not be tightening around the hand, but simply held
between the hand and the grip of the outrigger because it goes out with the flange in case of
releasing the safety karabiner.
- The rope of the safety karabiner must go around the wrist and held on the handle of the
outrigger, as a simple ski pole strap.
- With the harness « flange + T-bar », there are 2 security ropes, one is not used and must
be stored between the legs or inside the protection cover leg.
- When arriving, the sitskier releases the harness by the main release (opening the flange) as
soon as he gets into the unloading area and leaves as fast as possible to be safe and store
his harness.
For « T-bar » harnesses:
- The flange is not used; the strap is enough.
- The sitskier must prepare his harness before arriving in front of the lift operator.
- The 2 release ropes of each karabiner must go around the wrists and held on the handles
of the outriggers, as ski poles straps.
- It is not necessary to stop the skilift, the perchman must place the rope on one or the other
sides of the T-bar and place it near the center of the pole.
- When arriving, the sitskier releases his harness by one of the two ropes as soon as he gets
in the arriving area and leaves it as fast as possible to store his harness.
3.2 Use of chairlifts
These practical advices do not replace any aspect of the authorizations.
- Prior to take the chairlift, inform the chairlift personnel of your presence. They will be
vigilant and will use the emergency button in the event of an incident.
- Systematically ask to get on at a slow speed, even requesting that it stops if the chairlift
only has 2 places or is unable to go slowly. The speed for getting off the chairlift must not
be higher than the speed for getting on.

- Before getting ready to embark, unlock the frame and loosen the SCARVER™’s
backrest adjustment strap in order that the seat is comfortable and safe.
WARNING
Forgetting one of those 2 steps can lead to a critical accident. It is mandatory to
check :
The frame must be unlocked.
The backrest rope must be loosen.
- For embarkation, position yourself as follows :
For a chairlift with 2 seats: on one of the 2 seats.
For a chairlift with 3 seats: on the middle seat.
For a chairlift with 4 seats or more: on one of the middle seats. The footrest bars of
the seat’s safety rail are mainly positioned every 2 seats. In any event, do not position
the Dualski between 2 seats where the footrests of the seat’s safety rail are likely to
obstruct. This should be imperatively entirely folded down.
- Unlock and lift the SCARVER™. When touching the chairlift with the SCARVER™, lean
back to sit, put your arm behind the seat so as to be secured until the safety rail is closed.
Close the safety rail as quickly as possible.
WARNING
Be always sure that your SCARVER™ is installed to the maximum at the back
of the seat of the chairlift.
- Once the safety rail is down, go to the back of the seat by a right-to-left movement,
allowing the SCARVER™ to slide on the seat of the chairlift.
- Before arriving, check without lifting it completely that the safety rail can be lifted without
problem.
- When arriving, hold to the seat (arm behind the seat) and raise the safety rail at the
last moment. If necessary, ask your helper to push you on the debarking area so as to
get clear as quickly as possible.
- The blocks fixed to the outriggers (optional) facilitate to go off the chairlift. They allow a
good support on the seat of the chairlift to push forward in an efficient way.
- Do not forget to lock back the frame and tighten the backrest’s adjustment strap before
going onto the slopes.
CAUTION
Before going back to the slopes, check that:
The frame is locked
The adjustment strap of the backrest is tightened.
IMPORTANT
Control that there is not any part which could deteriorate the seats while using
the chairlifts.
- During these phases, do not hesitate to ask your accompanying person to help you if
needed.

5 TECHNICAL EXPLANATIONS, MANIPULATIONS
AND SETTINGS
5.1 Seat
The seat is covered with two types of foams:
Foam that is damp-proof glued to the seat
and in the backrest.
At the bottom of the seat, removable and
very comfortable foam which hardens in
the cold, but with the heat from the skier’s
body it softens and takes the shape of the
skier. It can shrink in the seat but will
regain its original shape when it is taken
off and placed in a warm environment. It
is relatively damp-proof but it may be
necessary to dry it out.
When installing the seat, correctly tighten all the
ropes, the hip rope must go under the jacket to be efficient. For the articulated bucket seat,
tighten first the horizontal ropes and the suspenders. Be sure that the seat foam is here and
in a correct condition before seating the sitskier.
Changing the seat
- Use the screws as in the sketch above.
- Attention, screws that are not the
original ones and which are too long
could damage seats of chairlifts.
- If the seat is not the original TESSIER®
one, then it is necessary to drill the rear
securing points at a distance of 145 mm
from the back of the seat, according to
the above sketch. This is important in
order to respect the balance of the
Dualski during gliding and when using
the chairlifts.
- Fixation distances: between front holes
and between rear holes: 140 mm,
between front and rear holes: 270 mm as
indicated on the plan.
- When in doubt, don’t hesitate to contact
us.
- The use of a seat which is not a TESSIER®seat cancels the warranty.
CAUTION
When manipulating the articulated seats, do not put your fingers between the seat
and the back, you could pinch your fingers.
CAUTION
The seats are not fire resistant. In case of fire (incandescent cigarette butt for
instance), get out of the seat as fast as possible.

5.2 Leg protections
A - Mounting the rear part “M, L, or XL” or “Racing”
A1 –Adjust the sitting angle of the frame (see page 30).
A2 –Once the skier is installed in the seat with his feet in the rear part,
visualise the good height of it and mark the corresponding pre-marked
holes to drill. The height is correct when there is enough space for one
finger between the foam and the thigh at the front of the seat.
A3 –Drill the 4 visualised holes, with a diameter 7mm drill.
A4 –Mount the rear part with the four large washers and the four 6x16
hexagonal head screws diameter 6 included with the footrest. Be careful
to screw it with your fingers at the beginning in order not to damage the
tapping of the frame. (Final clamping 0.8 Nm)
IMPORTANT
With the Dualski, do not use the highest fixing
points because the inner ski would hit the footrest
when leaning to the maximum with the shock
absorber compressed. This comment is valid with
the wide and Racing footrests.
B - Mounting the front parts (“Racing”)
B1 –When the skier is sit in the seat with his feet in the rear part adjust the front part on it
and fastens it moderately with the Velcro.
B2 –Adjust the knee part and visualise on the front part the good holes to drill. When you
visualise the correct hole to drill, make sure that the two parts are well linked, one on the
other. Also make sure that the rear part matches perfectly on the front feet area.
B3 –Drill the front visualised point (at the centre of the cover) on the front part with a
diameter 5mm drill.

B4 –Mount the 2 parts with the screw 5x12, the large washers and the cover nut. (Clamp to
0.5 Nm)
B5 –Push as much as you can the knee part against the front part while drilling on each side
(diam. 5). Mount the 2 parts with the screws 5x12, the large washers and the cover nuts of 5.
(Clamp to 0.5 Nm).
C –Mounting the strap on the seat (“Racing”)
C1 –With the screws used to fix the strap that adjust the backrest angle, fix the 2 parts of
the strap delivered with the cover. The strap is fixed on the seat and comes over the knee
part to fix it while skiing. See pictures.

5.3.1 Explanation on the edging system
On the Dualski, the inclination angle of the skis is different from the inclination angle of the
seat, depending on the chosen configuration: P,P+, C or C+.
These 4 configurations correspond to the 4 possible positions of the position indicator of the
edge-adjustment plates (27). For instance, for the P configuration, the indicators are position
on the outer holes. It is essential to have the same settings on both sides according to Figure
3 p 17.
Choice of the setting:
P = Performing. Of all 4 settings, this is the smallest inclination angle of the skis. With this
setting, the Dualski is easy but still performing. This configuration is recommended for skiers
who want to perform sliding turns and to side-slip easily or for skiers who have a high spinal
cord injury.
C+ = Carving extreme. This configuration allows a very important edging and is reserved to
very good skiers. With this configuration it becomes harder to make the Dualski side-slip.
Between these 2 extremities, you can also choose the settings P+ or C.
No matter the chosen configuration, the edging is maximized. The maximum edging angles
of the different configurations are:
P= 57°P+ = 58.5° C = 60° C+ = 61.5°
5.3.2 Changing the edging system configuration
CAUTION
Do not touch and change the setting of the transmitter rods (26) of the
inclination system of the skis. This setting is precise in order to obtain a good
operation.
It is recommended to replace one side first, then the other.
Unscrew a few turns the “lock nut”of diameter 8 mm on points (31)
Position the indicator of the edge-adjustment plates on the hole corresponding to the
chosen configuration according to Figure 3 p 17. Make sure there is no snow or ice
between the parts.
Retighten properly the nut (with a dynamometric spanner, the clamping torque is 22
Nm). If the Nylon ring of the nut is damaged, it needs to be replaced.
Make the same operation for the other side, according to Figure 3 p 17.
CAUTION
The clamping unit of the edge-adjustment plate is subjected to vibrations and
considerable strains. It is essential to tighten the screw properly and to place
the washer in its right location.
5.3.3 Replacing the Uniski/ Dualski part
Put the Scarver upside down, the lower part side up.
Unscrew the 2 nuts (n°30, figure 2) with a spanner of 18 or 19 (depending of the
nuts).
Install the Dualski low part, watching carefully that there is no snow or ice between
the 2 parts.
Put back the nuts and clamp those correctly (60Nm).
To put back the low Uniski part, make the opposite operation and adjust the centre of
gravity as you like.

CAUTION
The “rounded lower suspension arms “(n°20, figure 2) can be used with the
Dualski and Uniski low parts.
The “straight lower suspension arms” must only be used with the Uniski low
part.
The Amin configuration is strongly recommended for the Dualski use (See page 29).
5.3.4 Replacing the « straight lower suspension arms » by the « rounded
lower suspension arms » according to figure 3
Dismounting of the straight lower suspension arms :
Put the Scarver upside down, the lower part side up.
On the aluminium base, (n°5, figure 1) dismount the hexagon head screw 10x65 (40) + 1
lock nut (42) + 2 fender washers (44) + 2 conical spring washers (43). Let the inside ring
(41) in its place.
Dismount the arms on the frame with 2 spanners of 13.
Re-mounting the rounded lower suspension arms :
Take the 2 ribbed inside rings on the straight suspension arms and put them on the
rounded arms. Be careful to place them in the right direction, the larger part against the
frame.
Re-mount the hexagon head screw 8x60 and be careful to replace the washers in the
right position (see Figure 7 p 28). Clamp correctly (22Nm).
Re-mount the hexagon head screw 10x65 and be careful with the position of the
washers (see figure 4). The serration of the washers on the screw or nut side. Clamp
correctly (44Nm).
Be careful that the inner ring (41) is in its place.
CAUTION
The Amin configuration is strongly recommended for the use of the Dualski.

5.4 ÖHLINS PRC shock absorber for SCARVER™
In sitskiing, it is necessary to adjust the strength of the
spring to the weight and the performance of the skier to
have a good quality suspension. This is why we
propose a wide range of springs. It is necessary to
change it if it doesn’t fit to the skier.

absorber (seen from the top) to reach 0 and
then unscrew from the required number of
“click”.
- 0 click: rebound closed, very slow return
- 15 clicks: Average adjustments
- 25 clicks: Maximal utile opening, very fast
return
(It is possible to open more than 25 clicks but
there is no impact anymore on its way to work.
To avoid dismantle, do not open much more
than 25 clicks)
IMPORTANT
The rebound value must always be
superior or equal to the
compression value in order to let the
shock absorber uncoil on a
succession of shocks.
Compression
Screw in the clockwise against the shock
absorber to reach 0 and then unscrew from the
required number of “click”.
- 0 click: Closed, very hard
- 10 clicks: Average adjustment
- 21 clics: Open to the maximum, very supple

work of the shock absorber.
