SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Yo ur Toyota Prius has both high-voltage DC and AC systems
as well as a 12-volt system. Both DC and AC high voltage are
very dangerous and can cause personal injury, severe burns,
electric shock and even fatal injury.
To avoid personal injury, please follow all caution labels
attached to high-voltage parts. Do not touch or attempt to
remove or replace any high-voltage (orange- colored) wiring
and connectors. Do not touch the service plug located in
the driver’s side trim of the trunk.
If an accident occurs, do not touch any high-voltage wiring,
connectors or high-voltage parts such as the inverter unit or
hybrid vehicle battery assembly. Do not touch the potassium
hydroxide electrolyte that might spill or leak from the hybrid
vehicle battery as the result of an accident. If potassium
hydroxide electrolyte gets on your skin or in your eyes,
neutralize it immediatelywith a saturated boric acid solution
(ratio: 80 grams boric acid to two liters water). Seek immediate
medical attention.
If a vehicle fire occurs, extinguish it with a Class D powder-
type fire extinguisher.

This booklet is designed to help you make sure yourvehicle
receives proper and timely maintenance. It includes factory-
recommended maintenance guidelines along with information
on the extensive maintenance and repair support available
through Toyota and your dealership.You’ll also find space to
document yourvehicle’s maintenance history.
In addition to scheduled maintenance, your Toyota requires
ongoing general maintenance such as fluid checks and periodic
visual inspections. These procedures are explained under the
“General Maintenance” heading in the “Vehicle Maintenance
and Care” section of the Owner’s Manual. Be sure to follow
these guidelines carefully to ensure the most trouble- free
operation ofyourvehicle.
With proper maintenance and care, yourvehicle will last
longer and deliver more dependable, economical performance.
Follow this booklet’s recommendations and you’ll enjoy maxi-
mum reliability and peace of mind from your Toyota for many

Toyota provides five complimentary maintenance services
foryour Prius, to be performed at the first five 7,500- mile/
6- month maintenance intervals. Ifyou drive your Prius
under special operating conditions (see page 16), you are
responsible for the cost of additional required maintenance.

The Importance of Scheduled Maintenance

Maintaining yourvehicle according to the recommendations in
this booklet is required to ensure that yourwarranty coverage
remains intact.You should keep detailed records ofvehicle
maintenance, including date of service, mileage at time of ser-
vice and a description of service and/or parts installation
performed. The scheduled maintenance log in this booklet is a
good place to record this information. Ifyou sell your vehicle, be
sure to give your maintenance records to the new owner.
Toyota will not deny a warranty claim solely because you do
not have records to show that you maintained yourvehicle.
However, damage or failures caused by lack of proper mainte-
nance are not covered underwarranty.
Maintenance and repair services may be performed byyou or
by any automotive service provideryou choose. Toyota will
not deny a warranty claim solely because you used a service
provider other than a Toyota dealership for maintenance and
repairs. However, damage or failures caused by improper mainte-
nance or repairs are not covered under warranty.
Your dealer mayrecommend more frequent maintenance intervals
or more maintenance services than those listed in the scheduled
maintenance log. These additional services are not required to
maintain yourwarranty coverage. Ask your dealer for an expla-
nation of any recommended maintenance not included in the
scheduled maintenance log.

Insist on Genuine Toyota Quality
Ifyou’re involved in a collision, you want yourvehicle to be
returned to its pre- accident condition when repaired. To main-
tain your Toyota’s value, it’s important to make sure it is
repaired with Genuine Toyota Parts. Some repair shops and
insurance companies may suggest using imitation or used

General Information
“Collision repair parts” or “replacement crash parts” are the parts
typically replaced during the repair of a vehicle that has been
damaged in a collision. These parts include exterior sheet metal
such as fenders, hoods, doors and related components; and plas-
tic components such as bumper covers and lamp assemblies.
