Chapter 1. Introduction
1.1 Product Overview
The external print servers enhance capability by letting you place your printers at convenient
locations directly on the Ethernet network, and by increasing network printer performance and
management. Please note that the print server does not support printing with host-based printers,
e.g. CAPT, GDI, PPA.

Chapter 2. Hardware Installation
2.1 Preparation
Before you start, you should prepare the following items:
¾One printer
¾One printer cable
¾One wireless router / Access Point (optional)
¾A PC with wireless adapter installed
¾One Windows-based computer with print server setup CD
2.2 Typologies
2.2.1 Ad-Hoc
In this mode, there’s no any center of the wireless network, and every host is connecting with each
other. The host which wants to print a document will communicate directly with the TL-WPS510U.

2.2.2 Infrastructure
In this mode, the wireless router is the center of the wireless network. Every host, TL-WPS510U
included will communicate with the wireless router. The hosts communicate with TL-WPS510U
through the wireless router.

2.3 Connection
Follow the instructions below to install the print server.
¾Power off the printer.
¾Connect the print server to your printer with the supplied USB cable.
¾Power on the printer.
¾Power on print server.
¾Wait 40 seconds as part of the print server’s Power On Self Test (POST).

Chapter 3. How to Configure the Print Server
3.1 On Ad-Hoc Mode
To connect to the print server, the configuration for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7
are similar. Here we take Windows XP for example.
1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start->Control Panel.

2. Select and double-click Networking Connections.

3. Right click Wireless Network Connection, and select Properties.

4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then double click it or click Properties.

5. Select “Use the following IP address” and input a static IP address 192.168.0.X (1<X<10 or
10<X<255, for 192.168.0.10 is the default IP address of the print server), Subnet mask
255.255.255.0. Click OK.
)Note:
The IP address must be within the same subnet as your wireless print server. For example, if the
IP address of your print server has been changed to 192.168.1.10, the IP address should be
configured as 192.168.1.X (1<X<10 or 10<X<255).

6. Right click the icon at the right bottom on your desktop and then select View Available
Wireless Networks. (Here we use Windows Zero Configuration as an example. You can also
use vendor utility of wireless adapter. )

7. Find the SSID WLAN-PS of wireless print server. Select it and then click Connect.

8. Once the connection is successful, you will see the following screen shown in Figure 3-8.

9. Open a web-browser and type in the IP address of the print server (the default is 192.168.0.10)
in the address field of the browser to login to the web management of the print server.

10. After a moment, a login window will appear, similar to the Figure 3-10. Enter admin in
lowercase for the User Name and 0000 for the Password. Then click the OK button or press
the Enter key.

11. Then the print server web management page will appear. Suppose the local network is
192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0, therefore the IP of TL-WPS510U is required to set to 192.168.1.X
(1<X<255). Here we recommend 192.168.1.10. Click “Setup” > “TCP/IP”, change the TCP/IP
settings of the print server to 192.168.1.10/255.255.255.0 as shown in Figure 3-11. Click
Save/Restart to save the changes as shown in Figure 3-12.

12. Reenter the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” page. Change the wireless adapter’s IP
to 192.168.1.101/255.255.255.0. Click OK.

13. Connects to the network WLAN-PS again.

14. Log into the TL-WPS510U and configure the wireless parameters according to your wireless
network. In this example, the SSID is WLAN-Ad-Hoc, and the security type is WEP-64bit with
the password set to 12345. After the configuration, the TL-WPS510U also needs to save and
reboot.

15. Connect your laptop to the TL-WPS510U with a new SSID. As mentioned above, the SSID is
WLAN-Ad-Hoc and the password is 12345.

16. Try to ping the TL-WPS510U (Press WIN key + R, input cmd to launch the command line
interface, input ping 192.168.1.10). If the result shows as Figure 3-18, it means that your
adapter can login to the print server again as shown in Figure 3-19.

17. Add a Standard TCP/IP port for the printer.
