CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR
KOOLSTOFMONOXIDEDETECTOR
DETECTEUR DE MONOXYDE DE CARBONE
HAA77

HAA77 GB1
INTRODUCTION
Carbon Monoxide is an odourless, tasteless, invisible and deadly gas.
It is produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels such as natural gas, heating oil,
coal or wood. The incomplete combustion of fuel can occur in devices such as
furnaces, boilers, room heaters, hot water heaters, stoves, etc.
Many thousands of fatal domestic accidents are caused by carbon monoxide
poisoning, which is why CO is also known as "the silent killer".
The detector will be activated when it detects a harmful buildup of carbon monoxide
in your home.
In order to ensure maximum safety, we suggest that a detector be installed on every
floor.
INSTALLATION & OPERATION
1)Install the detector 1.5 m above the floor and 0.5 m below the ceiling and pick a
spot with adequate air circulation.
2)In close vicinity to equipment or appliances that run on combustible fuel,
generally to be found in kitchens, living areas with fireplaces, etc…
DO NOT INSTALL THIS DEVICE
a) Within 5 feet of any cooking unit.
b)In poorly ventilated areas where drapes, furniture or other objects inhibit proper
air circulation.
c) In close vicinity to air inlets for ceiling fans, doors, windows, etc. because the
turbulence affects the operation of the unit.
d)Where the normal ambient temperature is situated below freezing point or exceeds
40 degrees C.
e) In a bathroom where it could easily be splashed with water or affected by
condensation.
f) In a room that is not equipped with a constant electric power supply.

The green LED should light up when the device is switched on. Your HAA77
requires a ten-minute warm-up, during which the red LED will flash.
The buzzer will sound for at least 4 minutes and the red LED will flash if a CO-
concentration of 100ppm or more is detected for more than 7 minutes running.
CAUTION : Apart from CO, this unit does NOT detect any other type of gas and
does not sense, smoke, heat or flames.
IMPORTANT : This unit may not be activated at low CO levels and has not been
investigated for CO detection below 100ppm. Individuals with a medical condition
may consider using detection devices that are geared to react to lower levels of
COHb.
ACTIVATION OF THE ALARM
Activation of the detector indicates the presence of potentially LETHAL carbon
monoxide levels.
When the buzzer is activated :
a) Check if anyone exhibits symptoms of CO-poisoning such as a severe headache or
an upset stomach. If so, call the fire department and move to a location with lots of
fresh air. MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IS ACCOUNTED FOR. DO NOT
RE-ENTER THE BUILDING UNTIL IT HAS BEEN AIRED OUT !
If no one exhibits symptoms of discomfort associated with carbon monoxide
poisoning, you should :
b)Push the reset button.
c) Immediately turn off all appliances or other sources of combustion (furnace, water
heater, wood burning stove, etc.).
d)Ventilate the building.
e) Contact a qualified technician and have the problem fixed before restarting the
appliances.
The CO Detector will stop buzzing after 4 minutes if the CO concentration is
reduced to less than 100ppm, otherwise it will not be deactivated.
NOTE : This detector will only indicate the presence of CO gas in close vicinity to
the sensor. CO gas may be present in other areas.

TEST/RESET
In order to test the detector : press the POWER button firmly. The HAA77 will
produce an intermittent buzzing sound and the red LED will flash. This indicates that
the detector is now operational.
To reset the detector when in alarm mode, press the Test/Reset button momentarily
but firmly to silence the alarm. If the CO-concentration in the proximity of the
detector remains at the preset alarm level or higher, the buzzer will be reactivated
after 7 minutes of silence.
MALFUNCTION
A malfunction is indicated by an ongoing intermittent buzzing sound and a flashing
red LED. If this occurs, press the Test/Reset button momentarily but firmly. DO
NOT use this unit if the situation remains unchanged.
CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING
The great danger of carbon monoxide is its attraction to the haemoglobines in our
bloodstream. When large concentrations of CO are present in the air, it rapidly
accumulates in the blood. It will eventually displace enough oxygen in your system
to suffocate you from the inside out, resulting in brain damage or death.
Carbon monoxide poisoning can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Unborn
babies, infants, elderly people and people with coronary or respiratory problems
exhibit an increased vulnerability to CO-poisoning. The average healthy adult will
show symptoms under the following circumstances :
An exposure to 100ppm of CO for 20minutes may not have any effect. Four
hours of continuous exposure to the same level of CO may give you a headache.
A level of 440ppm CO, however, may give you a headache after only 35
minutes and can kill you in two hours’time.
MAINTENANCE
The detector will provide you with years of protection.
1)Test the unit monthly by pressing the Test/Reset button.
2)Gently clean the surface with a soft cloth. Make sure that the sensor’s ventilation
grille is unobstructed.
3)Never allow high concentrations of flammable gas near the sensor, which is
located behind the sensor vent at the front of the unit, as this will not only damage
the sensor but could also cause a fire.
4)Never apply paint to the plastic outer housing of the detector.
