Introduction
The information in this instruction manual covers the operation and maintenance of the internal RAID on
Kollector Elite XG Network Digital Video Recorders This unit should only be installed by a qualified technician
using approved materials and wiring practices in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA
70, state, and local electrical codes. Read these instructions thoroughly before beginning an installation.
This document describes the steps and actions that need to be taken in order to replace and repair a failed
database drive or OS hard drive on the Kollector Elite internal RAID.
Configuration
The Kollector Elite with the internal RAID is pre-configured to allow all data recorded by the Kollector to be
RAID protected in case of a hard drive failure. The Kollector is equipped with 5 removable drives of which:
•3 or 4 drives (model dependent) are in hot-swappable mode for the database
•1 drive is the operating system drive and is cold-swappable

Note: The Kollector Elite models with internal RAID do not have a CD drive.

Monitoring the RAID System
The hard drives in the Kollector are run by an internal RAID controller that handles the entire hot-swappable
drives array. This controller can be monitored using Internet Explorer from the Kollector itself or remotely.
Note: To work remotely, firewall settings will need to be changed.
In order to run the RAID console follow these steps:
•To open the RAID console:
a. Click Start or press the Windows button on the keyboard.
b. Choose Run and type http://localhost:3570.
•The following window will display:

•Click the Hyperlink with the Kollector name, under the “Select the Server below to Configure RAID
Controllers”
•The following page will load up:
•In the password field enter the Password (factory default is “1234”)
•Select the full access option and click “Submit”

•The following screen shows the RAID array as it was defined by Vicon. Every RAID array is built from 3
or 4 drives.
•A failed drive will show with a red mark on it to indicate the RAID is broken and needs to be
replaced. Refer to the “Replacing a Bad Database Drive” procedure that follows for details.
•There is no need perform any action on the RAID

Replacing a Bad Database Drive
•When a drive in the RAID fails, the Kollector will beep to announce that a drive has failed. Follow the next
steps in order to repair the drive:
1. Log in to the RAID console, as described previously in this document.
2. The failed drive will show up in the device screen.
3. In order to switch off the beep sound:
a. Click on the card icon under the “Physical View.”
b. Another menu opens on the right.
c. Click on “Silence Alarm.”
4. Identify the failed drive in the list and, using that drive number, locate the bad drive in the Kollector,
keeping in mind that the operating system drive (leftmost) is not part of the RAID.

5. Remove the bad drive using the key provided.
6. Insert a new drive and lock it into place using the key.
7. At this stage, the RAID console should show the word “Rebuilding” next to the drive; this will continue
to display until the RAID has rebuilt itself.
8. When the rebuild process is completed and all drives have returned to normal:
a. Reboot the Kollector using the Restart button on ViconNet.
b. Allow Scandisk to run and verify the disk integrity; this process might take a few minutes.
Following these steps will ensure maximum protection of the recorded data
Replacing the OS Hard Drive
Contact Vicon Technical Support (1-800-34 VICON, 1-800-348-4266) if there is a problem with the OS hard
drive. After Vicon has verified that the OS hard drive needs to be replaced, they will send a replacement drive
and all necessary software, product code 9124-00. Follow the instructions below to replace the OS hard
drive.
1. Turn off the power to the Kollector Elite.
2. The OS drive is located on the left side of the storage array.
3. Pull out the OS drive by pushing the lower part of the bay.
4. Use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the OS hard drive.

5. Insert the new OS hard drive back into its location (first bay on right). Push it firmly all the way in.
6. Apply power to the Kollector. Windows XP will come up.
7. After few seconds the message “Windows has finished installing new devices.…Do you want to restart
your computer now?” will display.
8. Press “Yes” to restart the Kollector.
9. When the Kollector starts again, go into the Start menu -> Run ->.Type “http://localhost:3570”.
10. The Intel RAID Web Console will load).

11. Click the Hyperlink under the “Select the Server below…” section on the page.
12. Select the full access option and click “Submit”.
13. Verify that the RAID has all hard drives assigned to it and that there is no hard drive failure.
Define a Name
1. Right click on Start and choose the "Explore" option.
2. Right click on "My Computer" and choose “Properties”.
3. Select the "Computer Name" tab.
4. Press the "Change" button.
5. Change the name from "KP-0000" to the name selected for this computer.
6. Press "OK" button.
7. Change the computer description to be the same as the computer name just selected for this
Kollector Elite unit.
8. Press "OK" button.
9. You will be asked to restart the computer.

Change Network Settings
1. Right click on Start and choose the "Explore" option.
2. Right click on "My Network Places" and choose "Properties".
3. Right click on the "Local Area Connection" icon and choose ''Properties".
4. Left click the "Advanced" slider.
Make sure that the "V" for the "Internet Connection Firewall" is on.
5. Left click the "General" slider.
6. Scroll down the menu and double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
7. Enter the "IP Address", "Subnet mask".
8. "Default Gateway" and "DNS" are optional and might be used while connecting to the Internet, etc.
9. Press "OK" twice to approve the network settings.
Installing ViconNet
1. To install ViconNet, use the Start Menu -> Run -> Type “C:\Vicon\Index.htm”.
2. The ViconNet Setup Menu will display. Run ViconNet software installation and driver installation. Refer to
appropriate documentation as needed.

Shipping Instructions
Use the following procedure when returning a unit to the factory:
1. Call or write Vicon for a Return Authorization (R.A.) at one of the locations listed below. Record the name
of the Vicon employee who issued the R.A.

2. Attach a sheet of paper to the unit with the following information:
a. Name and address of the company returning the unit
b. Name of the Vicon employee who issued the R.A.
c. R. A. number
d. Brief description of the installation
e. Complete description of the problem and circumstances under which it occurs
f. Unit’s original date of purchase, if still under warranty
3. Pack the unit carefully. Use the original shipping carton or its equivalent for maximum protection.
4. Mark the R.A. number on the outside of the carton on the shipping label.

Vicon Standard Equipment Warranty
Vicon Industries Inc. (the “Company”) warrants your equipment to be free from defects in material and workmanship under
Normal Use from the date of original retail purchase for a period of three years, with the following exceptions:
1. VCRs, all models: Labor and video heads warranted for 120 days from date of original retail purchase. All other
parts warranted for one year from date of original retail purchase.
2. Video monitor CRT (cathode ray tube) and LCD monitors, all models: One year from date of original retail
purchase.
3. Uninterruptible Power Supplies: Two years from date of original retail purchase.
4. VDR-204 and VDR-208 Recorder Series: One year from date of original retail purchase.
5. Normal Use excludes prolonged use of lens and pan-and-tilt motors, gear heads, and gears due to continuous
use of “autopan” or “tour” modes of operation. Such continuous operation is outside the scope of this warranty.
Date of retail purchase is the date original end-user takes possession of the equipment, or, at the sole discretion of the
Company, the date the equipment first becomes operational by the original end-user.
The sole remedy under this Warranty is that defective equipment be repaired or (at the Company’s option) replaced, at
Company repair centers, provided the equipment has been authorized for return by the Company, and the return shipment
is prepaid in accordance with policy.
The Company will not be obligated to repair or replace equipment showing abuse or damage, or to parts which in the
judgment of the Company are not defective, or any equipment which may have been tampered with, altered, misused, or
been subject to unauthorized repair.
Software supplied either separately or in hardware is furnished on an “As Is” basis. Vicon does not warrant that
such software shall be error (bug) free. Software support via telephone, if provided at no cost, may be
discontinued at any time without notice at Vicon’s sole discretion. Vicon reserves the right to make changes to
its software in any of its products at any time and without notice.
This Warranty is in lieu of all other conditions and warranties express or implied as to the Goods, including any
warranty of merchantability or fitness and the remedy specified in this Warranty is in lieu of all other remedies
available to the Purchaser.
No one is authorized to assume any liability on behalf of the Company, or impose any obligations on it in connection with
the sale of any Goods, other than that which is specified above. In no event will the Company be liable for indirect, special,
incidental, consequential, or other damages, whether arising from interrupted equipment operation, loss of data,
replacement of equipment or software, costs or repairs undertaken by the Purchaser, or other causes.
This warranty applies to all sales made by the Company or its dealers and shall be governed by the laws of New York
State without regard to its conflict of laws principles. This Warranty shall be enforceable against the Company only in the
courts located in the State of New York.
The form of this Warranty is effective August 2, 2006.
THE TERMS OF THIS WARRANTY APPLY ONLY TO SALES MADE WHILE THIS WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT. THIS
WARRANTY SHALL BE OF NO EFFECT IF AT THE TIME OF SALE A DIFFERENT WARRANTY IS POSTED ON THE
COMPANY’S WEBSITE, WWW.VICON-CCTV.COM. IN THAT EVENT, THE TERMS OF THE POSTED WARRANTY
SHALL APPLY EXCLUSIVELY.
