Chapter 1. Introduction
1199-C16
The 1199-C16 Multiplexer provides for the attachment of up to 16 devices on one
multiplexed output port from a 1174 Communications Server. The multiplexer’s device
ports are equipped with Dual Purpose Connectors (DPC) permitting the attachment of
coaxial cable and/or twisted pair type transmission media such as Type 1, 2, 3, or 9.
The 1199-C16 Multiplexer has LEDs to indicate power and communication activity
betweentheCommunicationsServer and attached devices. The PWR LEDindicatespower
applied to the unit. LEDs at the input port and device ports indicate activity between the
Communications Server and devices.
1199-C32
The 1199-C32 Multiplexer provides for the attachment of up to 32 devices on one
multiplexed output port from a Communications Server. The multiplexer’s device ports
are equipped with Dual Purpose Connectors (DPC) permitting the attachment of coaxial
cable and/or twisted pair type transmission media such as Type 1, 2, 3, or 9.

Chapter 2: Customer Installation
Site Requirements
The installation site must provide a properly wired and grounded power outlet. Circuits
connected to air conditioners and devices that generate significant transient electrical
noise should be avoided.
Electrostatic discharge in the vicinity of the unit should be minimized by avoiding high
resistance floor material and carpeting that does not have anti-static properties, avoiding
the use of plastic seats and covers, and avoiding low humidity levels. The unit should be
located away from areas that generate electromagnetic interference (for example,
transformers, power distribution panels, and motors). The unit should not be installed
where the atmosphere contains corrosive elements that may damage the unit.
Cable runs should avoid areas that produce electromagnetic interference (for example,
near transformers, switching equipment, power distribution panels, and under carpets
where vacuum cleaning is done). Also, heavy equipment should not be moved or rolled
over the cable.
Inspecting the Package
If your multiplexer packaging appears to have been damaged in shipment, please do not
open it. Rather, you should report the damage to the carrier upon delivery. If you determine
thatyourmultiplexerhas concealed damagewhenyouopen the package,reportthedamage
to your carrier as soon as possible. In both situations, you should also callVisara Customer
Service to report the problem.

Communications Cabling
The 1199-C16/32 Multiplexer supports only coaxial cable type BNC connectors for
connection to the Communications Server. The device port connectors are Dual Purpose
Connectors (DPC) permitting the attachment of coaxial cable and/or twisted pair type
transmission media.
1199-C16/32 Rack Mounting
The 1199-C16/32 Multiplexers are designed with holes to mount them in a standard
equipment rack. Four holes are provided for rack mounting. Refer to Figure 2-2.
Figure 2-2. Front view 1199-C16/32, Rack Mounting
Device Connection
Ensure the multiplexer is within reach of an acceptable AC power receptacle. There is no
power switch on the unit. Connecting the multiplexer to an AC power source is the last
step in installation. When plugged in, the green power LED on the back panel lights,
indicating power is applied and the unit is on.
Connect the multiplexer in the following manner.
1. Connect the transmission cable from the Communications Server (this must be a
multiplexed output port) to the BNC connector at the top right back on the
multiplexer.
2. Connect the associated devices to the connectors labeled 0 through 15 on the
1199-C16, or 0 through 31 on the 1199-C32.
3. Plug the equipment side of the power cord into the multiplexer power receptacle.
4. Plug the voltage side of the power cord into an appropriate AC power outlet. The
installation of the multiplexer is now complete.
