microscopic particles
CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS:
• Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when the chain saw is operating. Before you
start the chain saw, make sure the saw chain is not contacting anything. A moment of inattention
while operating chain saws may cause entanglement of your clothing or body with the saw chain.
• Always hold the chain saw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the front
handle. Holding the chain saw with a reversed hand conguration increases the risk of personal
injury and should never be done.
• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain may contact
hidden wiring. Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power
tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for head, hands, legs
and feet is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury by ying debris
or accidental contact with the saw chain.
• Do not operate a chain saw in a tree. Operation of a chain saw while up in a tree may result in
personal injury.
• Always keep proper footing and operate the chain saw only when standing on xed, secure and
level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of balance or control
of the chain saw.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension be alert for spring back. When the tension in the wood
bers is released the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the chain saw out of
control.
• Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch the saw
chain and be whipped toward you or pull you o balance.
• Carry the chain saw by the front handle with the chain saw switched o and away from your body.
When transporting or storing the chain saw always t the scabbard. Proper handling of the chain
saw will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving saw chain.

5
SAFETY INFORMATION
• Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly
tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
• Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing
loss of control.
• Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw for purposes not intended. For example: do not use
chain saw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chain saw for
operations dierent than intended could result in a hazardous situation
CAUSES AND OPERATOR PREVENTION OF KICKBACK:
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden
reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the saw chain
along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either
of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal
injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw user, you
should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury. Kickback is the result
of tool misuse and/ or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking
proper precautions as given below:
• Maintain a rm grip, with thumbs and ngers encircling the chain saw handles, with both hands on
the saw and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Kickback forces
can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the chain saw.
• Do not overreach and do not cut above chest height. This helps prevent unintended tip contact
and enables better control of the chain saw in unexpected situations.
• Only use replacement bars and chains specied by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars
and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
• Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. Decreasing
the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback
POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power
tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and o. Any power tool that cannot be
controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before
making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety
measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the
power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the
hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and
any other condition that may aect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool
repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are
less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking
into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations dierent from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

OPERATION
GUARD AGAINST KICKBACK
WARNING: KICKBACK may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or
when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause
a lightning fast reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching
the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the oper-
ator. Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious
injury to user.
The following precautions should be followed to minimize kickback:
• Grip chainsaw rmly. Hold the saw rmly with both hands when the unit is running. Use a rm grip
with thumbs and ngers encircling the front and rear handles.
• Do not over reach.
• Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Don’t let the nose of the guide bar contact a log, branch, ground or other obstruction.
• Do not extend chainsaw above shoulder height.
• Use devices such as low kickback chain, chain braking system and special guide bars that reduce
the risks associated with kickback.
• Only use replacement bars and chains specied by the manufacturer or the equivalent.
• Never let the moving chain contact any object at the tip of the guide bar.
• Keep the working area free from obstructions such as other trees, branches, rocks, fences,
stumps, etc. Eliminate or avoid any obstruction that your saw chain could hit while you are cutting
through a particular log or branch.
• Keep your saw chain sharp and properly tensioned. A loose or dull chain can increase the chance
of kickback. Check tension at regular intervals with the motor stopped and battery removed.
• Begin and continue cutting only with the chain moving at full speed. If the chain is moving at a
slower speed, there is a greater chance for kickback to occur.
• Cut one branch at a time.
• Use extreme caution when re-entering a previous cut. Engage spiked bumpers into wood and
allow chain to reach full speed before proceeding with cut.
• Do not attempt plunge cuts or bore cuts.
• Watch for shifting branches or other forces that could close a cut and pinch or fall into chain.
CHARGING BATTERIES WITH RAPID CHARGER
WARNING: Only use 40V Westinghouse rechargeable battery packs with Westinghouse 2A
Rapid Charger.
1. Plug the charging device (12) into household socket.
2. Make sure that the voltage cited on the charger complies with the voltage supplied by your
socket.
3. Slide the rechargeable battery (10) into the charging station. It can only be inserted in one
position.
4. The battery charging process now begins and is signaled by the green LED ashing.
5. Once the rechargeable battery has been fully charged, the green indicator light will stop ashing
and go solid. The charging process ends automatically.
6. Charging takes approx. 1-3 hours depending on battery size. The battery heats up during
the charging process. This is normal and does not signal a fault. Do not let battery remain on
charger for more than 5 hours.
Note: Occasionally, the permissible temperature range may be exceeded during the charging cycle. In this case,
the electronic charging control interrupts the charging cycle to avoid any damage to the battery. The red control
light will then glow continuously. If you should witness this, pull the battery from the charging station and let it cool
down for about 30 minutes. Then, restart the charging cycle by sliding the battery back onto the charging station.

nish on a single charge. Do not fell trees in high wind conditions.
WARNING: Felling can result in injury. It should only be performed by a trained person.
• A retreat path should be planned and cleared as necessary
before cuts are started. The retreat path should extend back and
diagonally to the rear of the expected line of fall.
• Before felling is started, consider the natural lean of the tree, the
location of larger branches and the wind direction to judge which
way the tree will fall. Have wedges (wood, plastic or aluminum)
and a heavy mallet handy. Remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails,
staples, and wire from the tree where the felling cuts are to be
made.
• Notching Undercut - Make the notch (27) 1/3 of the diameter of the tree, perpendicular to the
direction of the fall (26). Make the lower horizontal notching cut rst. This will help to avoid
pinching of either the saw chain or the guide bar when the second notch cut is being made.
• Felling Back Cut (28) - Make the felling back cut at least 2 inches (50mm) higher than the
horizontal notching cut. Keep the felling back cut parallel to the horizontal notching cut. Make the
felling back cut so enough wood is left to act as a hinge (29). The hinge wood keeps the tree from
twisting and falling in the wrong direction. Do not cut through the hinge.
OPERATION

15
OPERATION
• As the felling cut gets close to the hinge the tree should
begin to fall. If there is any chance that the tree may not fall
in the desired direction or it may rock back and bind the saw
chain, stop cutting before the felling cut is complete and use
wedges to open the cut and drop the tree along the desired
line of fall. When the tree begins to fall remove the chain saw
from the cut, stop the motor, put the chain saw down, then
use the retreat path planned. Be alert for overhead limbs
falling and watch your footing
LIMBING
• Removing the branches from a fallen tree. When limbing,
leave larger lower limbs to support the log o the ground.
Remove the small limbs in one cut. Branches under tension
should be cut from the bottom of the branch towards the top
to avoid binding the chainsaw. Trim limbs from opposite side
keeping tree stem between you and saw. Never make cuts
with saw between your legs or straddle the limb to be cut.
BUCKING
WARNING: Recommend that rst time users should practice
cutting on a saw horse. Cutting a felled tree or log into lengths. How you should cut
depends on how the log is supported. Use a saw horse whenever possible. Always start a
cut with the chain running at full speed.
When supported on a saw horse:
• Place the bottom spike of the chain saw behind the area of the initial cut.
• Turn the chain saw on then rotate the chain and bar down into the tree, using the spike
as a hinge.
• Once the chain saw gets to a 45 degree angle, level the chain saw again and repeat
steps until you cut fully through.
When the tree is supported along its entire length:
• Make a cut from the top (overbuck), but avoid cutting the
earth as this will dull your saw quickly.
When supported at one end:
• First, cut 1/3 the diameter from the underside (underbuck).
Then make the nished cut by overbucking to meet the rst
cut.
When supported at both ends:
• First, cut 1/3 down from the top overbuck. Then make the
nished cut by underbucking the lower 2/3 to meet the rst
cut.
When on a slope:
• Always stand on the uphill side of the log. When “cutting
through”, to maintain complete control release the cutting
pressure near the end of the cut without relaxing your grip on the
chain saw handles. Don’t let the chain contact the ground. After
completing the cut, wait for the saw chain to stop before you
move the chain saw. Always stop the motor before moving from
cut to cut.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
OPERATION
CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE CHAIN TENSION
WARNING: Make sure battery is removed from chainsaw and
tool is cold before performing chain tensioning. Make sure to place
chainsaw on stable, level surface.
To check the saw chain tension pull the saw chain away from the
guide bar approximately 3mm. If the chain snaps back into place
then the tension is correct. There should be no sag between the
guide bar and the saw chain on the underside.
To increase tension:
1. Un-tighten the sprocket cover tighten knob slightly by turning it counterclockwise.
2. To increase the chain tension, turn the chain tensioner adjustment knob (13) clockwise
and check the chain tension frequently.
3. The chain tension is correct when the gap between the cutter in the chain and the
bar is between 3mm-4mm. Pull the chain in the middle of the lower side of the bar
downwards (away from the bar) and measure the distance between the bar and the
chain cutters.
4. Tighten the sprocket cover tighten knob (15) by turning it clockwise.
To reduce tension:
1. Turn the chain tensioner adjustment knob (13) counterclockwise and check the chain
tension frequently.
2. Tighten the sprocket cover tighten knob (15) by turning it clockwise.
Use only mild soap and damp cloth to clean the tool. Do not use solvents to clean the plastic housing
of the saw. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid. IM-
PORTANT: To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment should
be performed by authorized service centers or other qualied service organizations, always using
identical replacement parts. Regular maintenance ensures a long eective life for your chain saw.
CHAIN AND BAR
After every few hours of use, remove the guide bar and chain and clean thoroughly using a soft bris-
tle brush. Ensure oiling hole on bar is clear of debris.
SAW CHAIN SHARPENING
CAUTION: Sharp chain. Always wear protective gloves when handling the chain. The chain is
sharp and can cut you when it is not running.
WARNING: Sharp moving chain. To prevent accidental operation, ensure that battery is removed
from the tool before performing the following operations. Failure to do this could result in serious per-
sonal injury. NOTE: The cutters will dull immediately if they touch the ground or a nail while cutting.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To get the best possible performance from your chain saw it
is important to keep the teeth of the chain sharp. Follow these
helpful tips for proper saw chain sharpening:
1. For best results use a 4.5mm le and a le holder or ling
guide to sharpen your chain. This will ensure you always get
the correct sharpening angles.
2. Place the le holder at on the top plate and depth gauge of
the cutter.
3. Keep the correct top plate ling angle line of 30° on your le
guide parallel with your chain (le at 60° from chain viewed
from above).
4. Sharpen cutters on one side of the chain rst. File from the
inside of each cutter to the outside. Then turn your saw
around and repeat the processes (2,3,4) for cutters on the
other side of the chain. NOTE: Use a at le to le the tops of
the rakers (portion of chain link in front of the cutter) so they
are about .025 inch (.635 mm) below the tips of the cutters.
5. Keep all cutter lengths equal.
6. If damage is present on the chrome surface of the top plates or side plates, le back until such
damage is removed. CAUTION: After ling, the cutter will be
sharp, use extra caution during this process. NOTE: Each time
the chain is sharpened, it loses some of the low kickback quali-
ties and extra caution should be used. It is recommended that a
chain be sharpened no more than four times.
REPLACING CHAIN OIL
• Make sure to use correct after market chain oil for chainsaw. Do not use any other type of oil.
MAINTENANCE
• Regular maintenance ensures a long eective life for the tool. After every 10 minutes of use be sure
to remove the battery (be aware the chain and bar can be hot!) check the bar and chain for correct
tension and lubricate per chainsaw instruction manual. Use only mild soap and damp cloth to clean
the tool. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
• To assure product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, maintenance and adjustment should be
performed by authorized service centers or other qualied service organizations, always using
identical replacement parts.
• Keep the air intake slots clean to avoid overheating.
• Before each use, inspect the entire product for damaged, missing, or loose parts such as screws,
nuts, bolts, caps, etc.
• Tighten securely all fasteners and caps and do not operate this product until all missing or
damaged parts are replaced.
• Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from
various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloths to
remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

STORAGE
• Remove the battery pack from the unit before storing.
• Clean o all foreign objects from the unit.
• Store it in a place that is inaccessible to children.
• Keep away from corrosive agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
• Store and charge your batteries in a cool area. Temperatures above or below normal room
temperature will shorten battery pack life.
• Never store batteries in a discharged condition. Store battery packs in a 30%-50% charged
condition.
• Store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80oF and away from moisture.
• All batteries gradually lose their charge. The higher the temperature, the quicker they lose their
charge.
• If you store your unit for long periods of time without using it, charge the pack as normal every six
months of storage. This practice will prolong battery pack life.
