Automatic Chronograph
Thank you for purchasing this William L. 1985 watch. The following instructions are provided to help you familiarize
yourself with the proper operation and care of your William L. 1985 watch. To ensure correct use, please read and
follow the instructions carefully.!!

WINDING UP THE MAINSPRING
This watch is an automatic watch equipped with a manual winding mechanism.
• MANUAL WINDING
If your watch is completely stopped, it is recommended that you manually wind the mainspring by turning
the crown. You have to rotate the crown clockwise at normal position.
Mechanism will be fully wounded up by turning the crown minimum 55 times.
• AUTOMATIC WINDING
When the watch is worn on the wrist, the motion of the wearer's arm winds the mainspring of the watch.
It will also start to move naturally shaking slightly.

TIME SETTING
To set the time of your Automatic Chronograph follow these steps:
1. Pull the crown out to the position 2.
2. Turn the crown clockwise to set hour and minute hands to set the time.
Take a.m./p.m. into consideration when setting the hour and minute hands to the desired time.
3. Push the crown back to the position 0.
During time setting, if the chronograph is started, chronograph hour and minute hands will rotate simultaneously.
This is not a malfunction. Please reset chronograph by pushing button B. Chronograph hour and minute hands will
return to their reset positions.
DATE SETTING (if your watch is equipped with date window)
To set the date of your Automatic Chronograph follow these steps:
1. Pull the crown out to the position 1.
2. Turn the crown clockwise to set the date.
3. After the date has been set, push the crown back to the position 0.
Do not change the date between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. period as this will cause a malfunction. To know if you are
in the p.m. or a.m. period, move the hour hand after 12 O’clock and see if the date jumps or not. If the date jumps,
you are now on the a.m. period of the day. If the dates do not jump you are on the p.m. period of the day.
USING THE CHRONOGRAPH
The chronograph can measure up to 12 hours in seconds. Time measured can be read with the chronograph second
minute and hour hands. To measure periods of time up to 12 hours, follow these steps:
1. Press button " A " to start the chronograph.
2. The chronograph can be stopped to read the time measured and restarted as many times as necessary by
pressing the button "A".
3. Press button "B" to reset the chronograph. The chronograph hour, minute and second hands return to
their 0 positions.
USING THE TACHYMETER!
The tachymeter scale measures the average speed of a moving object. Using the chronograph Start-Stop function,
you can measure the time taken to travel 1km. The average speed can be read on the tachymeter scale. Ex: 1km
traveled in 30 seconds = 120 km/h average speed.

USING THE TELEMETER!
The telemeter scale measures the distance traveled by a sound in a certain time. For example, using the
chronograph Start-Stop function, you can measure the distance separating yourself from a thunder storm. Start the
chronograph when you see the lightning and stop it when you hear the resulting thunder. The distance can be read
on the telemeter scale. (Ex: 30 seconds measured = 10 km distance)
STRAPS, BRACELETS AND EASY BAR SYSTEM
William L. 1985 watches are using easy bars. To change your strap or bracelet easily, pull the levers of the easy bars
to release the strap from the case. The same action will allow you to attach another strap to the case.

PRECAUTIONS AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES
• TEMPERATURE & SHOCKS
Avoid thermal or other shocks as it may harm your watch. Do not expose your watch to sudden
temperature changes (exposure to sunlight followed by immersion in cold water) or extreme
temperatures [over 60°C (140°F) or below 0°C (32°F)].
While your watch is water proof, it is not recommended to shower or wash dishes with it as it can result in
a sudden change of temperature.
• MAGNETIC FIELDS
Do not expose your watch to intense magnetic fields such as loudspeakers, portable telephones,
computers or refrigerators and other electromagnetic appliances.
• HARMFUL PRODUCTS
Avoid direct contact with solvents, detergents, and perfumes, cosmetic products etc., since they may
damage the bracelet, the case and/or the gaskets.
• CARE
Clean the case and bracelet regularly using a soft cloth to prevent any corrosion caused by perspiration.
All water-resistant watches can be cleaned with a toothbrush and soapy water, and then dried with a soft
cloth. After being worn in the sea, the watch must be rinsed with warm fresh water and then dried
completely.
WATER RESISTANCE
Water resistance of watches is rated based on laboratory pressure tests comparable to a swimmer or diver sitting
still at that pressure level. However, many water-based activities involve a lot of movement and other environmental
changes. These exceptions to how the watch was rated may challenge or defeat the water protection features of a
water-resistant watch.

The water resistance of a watch cannot permanently be guaranteed. It may be affected by ageing of gaskets or by
accidental shock to the crown. The water resistance level of your William L. 1985 watch is indicated on its caseback:
1. [3atm / 30m / 100ft]
Watches water resistant to 30 meters /100 feet.
2. [5atm / 50m / 165ft] [10atm / 100m / 330ft] [20atm / 200m / 660ft]
Watches water resistant to 50, 100 or 200 meters /165, 330 or 660 feet.
3. [10atm / 100m / 330ft] [20atm / 200m / 660ft] [30atm / 300m / 1000ft]
Watches water resistant from 100 to 300 meters / 330 to 1000 feet or more with screw down crown and
diving bezel.
According to the water resistance 1, 2 or 3 listed above, watches are protected against:
1-2-3 Water splashes / Rain
2-3 Shower & Bath with no direct stream / Shallow water activities
3 Water sports / Scuba diving of the surface
Also, never activate the time-setting crown and/or the pushers while the watch is under water and make sure that
the crown has been pushed/screwed down tightly after every operation.
And, do not under any circumstances open the watch yourself; arrange to get it inspected by an authorized William
L. 1985 Service Center only.
LIMITED WARRANTY!
Your William L. 1985 watch is warranted by William L. 1985 for a period of sixty (60) months from the date of
purchase under the terms and conditions of this warranty. !
The international William L. 1985 warranty covers material and manufacturing defects. The warranty only comes into
force if the warranty certificate is dated, fully and correctly completed, and the watch has been registered on our
After-Sales Service Center during the warranty period.
In the event that repairs are improper to restore the normal conditions of use of your William L. 1985 watch, William
L. 1985 guarantees its replacement by a William L. 1985 watch of identical or similar characteristics. The warranty for
the replacement watch is twenty-four (24) MONTHS after the date of purchase of the replaced watch.
This manufacturer’s warranty does not cover:
1. Wear and tear and aging (e.g. scratched crystal; alteration of the color and/or material of non-metallic
straps and chains, such as leather, textile, rubber; peeling of the plating).
2. Any damage on any part of the watch resulting from abnormal/abusive use, lack of care, negligence,
accidents (knocks dents, crushing, broken crystal, etc.).

3. Incorrect use of the watch and non-observance of the use directions provided by William L.1985.
4. The William L.1985 watch handled by non-authorized persons (e.g. for battery replacement, services or
repairs) or which has been altered in its original condition beyond William L.1985 control.
All applicable implied warranties, including the implied warranty of merchantability and of fitness for a particular
purpose given to you by law are hereby limited in duration to the duration of this warranty. Under no Circumstances
will WILLIAM L. 1985 be liable for any indirect or consequential damages of any kind.
