XPacket Storage Device
Introduction XPaket Storage Device
XPaket Storage Device 5,25” CD-ROM/DVD drive kit supports all types of 5,25”
devices such as CD-ROM drive, CD-RW,DVD,DVD-R,DVD-RW. It is intended to be
used externally with a computer via a USB 2.0 or Firewire IEEE 1394 interface.
XPaket Storage Device is a stackable storage device that can be used for han-
dling databases or as part of small to medium network servers.
With XPaket StorageDevice, it is easy to upgrade to the latest CD-ROM, CD-RW,
DVD device, etc. Following successful installation, the operating system auto-
matically detects and permits access to the CD-ROM or DVD device whenever it
is reconnected. The Xpacket Storage Device can potentially be used on a net-
work by multiple users or locally by a single user, being connected or discon-
nected as desired.
The USB drivers are built-in Windows 98SE or later versions of Windows and
Mac OS. These operating systems can detect and allocate access to this device
automatically without any additional software drivers following proper installa-
tion of the XPaket Storage Device.
USB 2.0 allows the computer to be connected to more devices up to a maximum
of 127 devices. IEEE 1394 Firewire allows the computer to be connected to more
devices up to a maximum of 63 devices (on a single serial bus). The computer
requires an available USB or FireWire IEEE 1394 port. XPaket Storage Device
supports all speeds of CD-ROM drive, CD-RW,DVD-ROM, DVD-R andDVD-RAM.

USB2.0model
To use the XPaket StorageDevice USB 2.0, it is required to have an available USB
port and your operating system needs to support the USB interface (i.e., Win-
dows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Mac OS 8.0 or later).
If you do not have an available USB port, you may purchase and use a USB 2.0
PCI add-on card.Normally, this provides 2-4 USB 2.0 ports.
XPaket StorageDevice USB 2.0 included
5,25” enclosure: to install a 5,25” CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drive internally
DC adapter: to power up the 5,25” XPaket Storage Device
USB cable: to connect the XPaket Storage Device to computer
FireWireIEEE1394model
To use XPaket Storage Device FireWire IEEE 1394, the computer is required to
have an FireWire IEEE 1394 port and your operating system needs to support the
FireWire IEEE 1394 interface (i.e., Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000,
Windows XP or Mac OS 8.0 or later). If your computer main board, etc does not
have FireWire IEEE 1394 port, you may purchase and use a Firewire PCI card.
Normally, these cards provide 2 FireWire IEEE 1394 ports.

XPaketStorageDeviceUSB2.0/FirewireIEEE1394Comboversion
To use XPaket Storage Device USB 2.0/ Firewire IEEE 1394, the computer must
have available either a USB 2.0 or an FireWire IEEE 1394 port. This model sup-
ports both of the interfaces, permitting increased flexibility between different
computers with different interfaces. The operating system is required to support
the USB 2.0 and/or FireWire IEEE 1394 interface (i.e., Windows 98SE, Windows

ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Mac OS 8.0 or later). If you do not have an
available FireWire IEEE 1394 or USB 2.0 port on your main board, etc, you may
purchase and use add-on cards.

Install a new 5,25” CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD/DVD-RW
drive
Both the USB and FireWire IEEE 1394 installations are “Plug & Play” devices
requiring no additional software. Therefore, installation is dependent on proper
connection of the cables, powering up hardware and working USB or FireWire
IEEE 1394 ports, as needed.
