Wireless RouterFeatures
TheWireless Routerincorporatesmanyadvancedfeatures, carefullydesignedtoprovide
sophisticatedfunctionswhilebeingeasytouse.
InternetAccess Features
• SharedInternetAccess. All usersontheLAN orWLAN canaccess theInternet
throughtheWireless Router,usingonlyasingleexternal IPAddress.Thelocal (invalid)
IPAddressesarehiddenfromexternal sources.Thisprocess iscalledNAT(NetworkAd-
dress Translation).
• DSL&CableModemSupport. TheWireless Routerhasa10/100BaseTEthernet
portforconnectingaDSLorCableModem.All popularDSLandCableModemsare
supported. SingTelRAS andBigPond(Australia)loginsupportisalsoincluded.
• PPPoE, and PPTP. TheInternet(WAN port)connectionsupportsPPPoE(PPP over
Ethernet),PPTP(Peer-to-PeerTunnelingProtocol),aswell as"DirectConnection"type

• CommunicationApplications. SupportforInternetcommunicationapplications,such
asinteractiveGames, Telephony, andConferencingapplications, whichareoftendifficult
tousewhenbehindaFirewall, isincluded.
• SpecialInternetApplications. Applicationswhichusenon-standardconnectionsor
portnumbersarenormallyblockedbytheFirewall.Theabilitytodefineandallowsuch
applicationsisprovided, toenablesuchapplicationstobeusednormally.
• VirtualServers. ThisfeatureallowsInternetuserstoaccess Internetserversonyour
LAN. Therequiredsetup isquickandeasy.
• DDNSSupport. DDNS (DynamicDNS)allowsInternetuserstoconnecttoVirtual
ServersonyourLAN usingadomainname, evenifyourIPaddress isnotfixed.
• Multi-DMZ. ForeachWAN (Internet)IPaddress allocatedtoyou,one(1) PConyour
local LAN canbeconfiguredtoallowunrestricted2-waycommunicationwithServersor

• StatefulInspectionFirewall. All incomingdata packetsaremonitoredandall incom-
ingserverrequestsarefiltered,thusprotectingyournetworkfrommaliciousattacksfrom
external sources.
• ProtectionagainstDoSattacks. DoS(Denial of Service)attackscanfloodyour
Internetconnectionwithinvalidpacketsandconnectionrequests,usingsomuchband-
widthandsomanyresourcesthat Internetaccess becomesunavailable.TheWireless
RouterincorporatesprotectionagainstDoSattacks.

Procedure
1. ChooseanInstallation Site
Selectasuitableplace onthenetworktoinstall theWireless Router.
EnsuretheWireless RouterandtheDSL/CablemodemarepoweredOFF.
2. ConnectLANCables
UsestandardLAN cablestoconnectPCstotheSwitchingHubportsontheWireless
Router. Both10BaseTand100BaseTconnectionscanbeusedsimultaneously.

Ifrequired,connectanyporttoanormal portonanotherHub,usingastandardLAN ca-
ble. AnyLAN portontheWireless Routerwill automaticallyfunctionasan"Uplink"port
whenrequired.
3. ConnectWANCable
ConnecttheDSLorCablemodemtotheWAN portontheWireless Router.Usethecable
suppliedwithyourDSL/Cablemodem. Ifnocablewassupplied, useastandardcable.
4. PowerUp
• PowerontheCableorDSLmodem.
• ConnectthesuppliedpoweradaptertotheWireless Routerandpowerup.

TheWireless RoutercontainsanHTTPserver.Thisenablesyoutoconnecttoit,andconfig-
ureit, usingyourWebBrowser. YourBrowser mustsupportJavaScript.
Theconfigurationprogram hasbeentestedonthefollowingbrowsers:

Preparation
BeforeattemptingtoconfiguretheWireless Router, pleaseensurethat:
• YourPCcanestablishaphysical connectiontotheWireless Router.ThePCandthe
Wireless Routermustbedirectlyconnected(usingtheHubportsontheWireless Router)
oronthesameLAN segment.
• TheWireless RoutermustbeinstalledandpoweredON.
• IftheWireless Router'sdefault IPAddress (192.168.1.254) isalreadyusedbyanother
device,theotherdevice mustbeturnedOFF until theWireless Routerisallocatedanew
IPAddress duringconfiguration.
Using UPnP
IfyourWindowssystemsupportsUPnP,aniconfortheWireless Routerwill appearinthe
systemtray,notifyingyouthat anewnetworkdevice hasbeenfound,andofferingtocreatea
newdesktopshortcuttothenewly-discovereddevice.
• Unless youintendtochangetheIPAddress of theWireless Router,youcanacceptthe
desktopshortcut.
• Whetheryouacceptthedesktopshortcutornot,youcanalwaysfindUPnPdevicesin My
NetworkPlaces (previouslycalled NetworkNeighborhood).
• Double-clicktheiconfortheWireless Router(eitherontheDesktop,orin MyNetwork
Places)tostarttheconfiguration.Refertothefollowingsection Setup Wizard fordetails
of theinitial configurationprocess.
Using yourWebBrowser
ToestablishaconnectionfromyourPCtotheWireless Router:
1.AfterinstallingtheWireless RouterinyourLAN,startyourPC.IfyourPCisalready
running, restartit.
2.StartyourWEBbrowser.
3.Inthe Address box,enter"HTTP://"andtheIPAddress of theWireless Router,asinthis
example, whichusestheWireless Router'sdefault IPAddress:
HTTP://192.168.1.254
Becausethedefault passwordisblank, youwill notbepromptedforapassword.However,you
shouldassignapassword. See the PasswordSetup sectionlaterinthischapterfordetails.

Ifyou can'tconnect
IftheWireless Routerdoesnotrespond, checkthefollowing:
• TheWireless Routerisproperlyinstalled, LAN connectionisOK, andit is
poweredON. Youcantesttheconnectionbyusingthe"Ping"command:
• OpentheMS-DOS windoworcommandpromptwindow.
• Enterthecommand:
ping 192.168.1.254
Ifnoresponseisreceived, eithertheconnectionisnotworking, oryour
PC'sIPaddress isnotcompatiblewiththeWireless Router'sIPAddress.
(See nextitem.)
• IfyourPCisusingafixedIPAddress, itsIPAddress mustbewithintherange
192.168.1.1to192.168.1.253 tobecompatiblewiththeWireless Router'sde-
fault IPAddress of 192.168.1.254. Also, the NetworkMask mustbesetto
255.255.255.0. See Chapter4-PCConfiguration fordetailsoncheckingyour
PC'sTCP/IPsettings.
• Ensurethat yourPCandtheWireless Routerareonthesamenetworkseg-
ment. (Ifyoudon'thavearouter, thismustbethecase.)
• EnsureyouareusingthewiredLAN interface. TheWireless interface can
onlybeusedifitsconfigurationmatchesyourPC'swireless settings.
