FEATURES AS TOUGH AS
COOLERS THEMSELVES
DryHide™ Interior and Exterior
The YETI® Hopper uses wildly stronger DryHide™ fabric for both
the interior and exterior shells. This specially calibrated material
is high tenacity 840 denier nylon with a double TPU coating –
similar to material used in high-performance whitewater rafts. It is
waterproof and resistant to puncture, abrasion, and UV-rays. The
liner is anti-microbial, mildew resistant, and FDA food-grade.
ColdCell™ Insulation
The deep and lasting chill of the Hopper™ can be credited to its
premium ColdCell™ Insulation. This closed-cell NBR rubber foam
is 1” thick on the sides and 1.5” thick on the bottom, oering far
superior cold holding to ordinary soft coolers.
HydroLok™ Zipper
Go ahead: turn it upside down and give it a shake. The
Hopper™ won’t leak! The HydroLok™ Zipper is the ultimate
waterproof, airtight closure. Constructed like zippers found in
survival suits, fishing waders, and HazMat protective gear, you
can trust this zipper to perform in any environment in the wild.
See page 6 for care instructions.
U-Dock™
The U-Dock™ is the terminal end of the HydroLok™ Zipper
that insures a leak-proof seal when closed. To maximize
ice retention and eliminate leakage, pull the slider until it
is fully engaged in the U-Dock™. To drain water from the
Hopper™ without spilling your contents, leave the slider
just short of the U-Dock™ and invert the cooler.

Breaking in your Hopper™
Like a good pair of boots or a quality baseball glove, the Hopper™ takes a little time to break in.
The extremely durable materials of the Hopper™ can make it feel rigid when first put into action.
Loading and unloading contents will become easier as the materials relax with use.
Caring for the HydroLok™ Zipper
The HydroLok™ Zipper is the best cooler zipper in the world, and with a little care and
maintenance can last a lifetime. As noted below, we recommend long term storage with the
zipper in the fully closed position to help protect the U-Dock™ seal. We also recommend regular
application of the included zipper lubricant – especially when putting into storage – by carefully
applying the lube to the U-Dock™ front, back, and inside.
Draining and drying
To drain water from the Hopper™ without spilling your contents, leave the HydroLok™ Zipper
slider just short of the U-Dock™ and invert the cooler.
Everyday cleaning
When your cooler gets a little muddy or grimy, a mixture of dish soap and water should do the
trick. Rinse with fresh water, then thoroughly wipe the inside dry with a cloth or paper towel.
Leave the HydroLok™ Zipper open for several days to ensure all moisture has dried.
Do Not Machine Wash. Do Not Dry in an Oven.
Storage
Make sure your cooler is completely free of moisture. It is recommended that you leave the
HydroLok™ Zipper in the closed position – with the slider fully pulled into the U-Dock™.
This will help protect the waterproof seal and the U-Dock™.
UV Exposure
You may find colors of the Hopper™ fading over time. This is a normal part of the wearing
process and will not aect performance in any way. Like your favorite YETI hat, color-fading
adds a little character.

PRO TIP:
MAXIMIZING ICE RETENTION
A YETI® Hopper™ Cooler, with its welded DryHide™ double-TPU coated construction, thick
ColdCell™ insulation, and waterproof HydroLock™ Zipper provides remarkable insulating
performance and ice retention capabilities.
To get the most from your YETI’s insulating qualities, we strongly recommend you read the
concepts outlined below. These techniques are used by seasoned outdoor professionals
who rely on extended ice retention.
Start with a cool YETI®Cooler
A cooler is designed to insulate, which
means it will retain heat as well as cold.
For this reason, try to store your cooler
in a cool environment prior to loading
it with ice. If stored in direct sunlight, a
warm garage, or a hot vehicle prior to use,
a significant amount of ice will be wasted
cooling the cooler itself. One way to cool
the walls is to pre-load it with a sacrificial
bag of ice. The starting temperature of
the cooler is one of the most commonly
overlooked variables in ice retention.
Dry Ice is the frozen form of Carbon Dioxide and its -109° F temperature makes a very attractive
cooling alternative to regular ice. Although the Hopper’s DryHide™ body construction is more
than capable of withstanding that extreme temperature, we still recommend against using Dry
Ice in the Hopper™.
Here’s why: instead of melting, dry ice sublimates into CO2gas as it warms. The Hopper, and
most notably the HydroLock™ Zipper, is so airtight that when fully closed, there is no way for
this gas to escape. The cooler will inflate until it bursts. Don’t try that at home!
Freeze or pre-chill contents
Chilling or even freezing the contents
you intend to load into your cooler is another
way to extend ice retention. Consider that it
will take over 1 lb. of ice to cool a six-pack of
room temperature beverage cans.
More ice is better
We recommend filling your cooler with as
much ice as possible. Ideally, we suggest an
ice-to-contents ratio of 2:1.
AVOID DRY ICE
Not all ice is created equal
Ice can get much colder than its freezing point. “Warm” ice (near 32°F) is typically wet to
the touch and dripping with water. Cold, sub-zero ice is relatively dry and will last
substantially longer.

Don’t drain the water
Once your cooler is in use, we recommend
you avoid draining the cold water, if possible.
The water in your cooler will be almost
as cold as the ice and will help insulate
the remaining ice. However, it is advisable
to keep exposed food and meat out of
the water.
Air is the enemy
Large pockets of air inside your cooler
will accelerate ice melt since a portion
of the ice is consumed cooling the air.
Air space voids are best filled with extra
ice. Alternatively, do like the pros and
squeeze out the excess air to remove
these air pockets.
Applying the tips and techniques provided in this Owner’s Manual is the
key to achieving maximum ice retention with your YETI®. Due to all of the
variables that aect ice retention, and because every adventure is dierent,
we believe it is misleading to make specific claims about how long a cooler
will hold ice.
Sunlight is a heat source
When possible, keep your cooler out of
direct sunlight. Ice will last substantially
longer when the cooler is in the shade.
Some pros use towels or tarps to cover
their coolers when they cannot find a
shaded spot.
Block ice vs. cube ice
The advantage of block ice is that it will
melt much more slowly than cubed or
shaved ice. Smaller pieces of ice will chill
a cooler and its contents more quickly
but will not last as long. In fact, fishermen
often use shaved ice to quickly chill their
catch. Most pros use a mixture of cube and
block ice for the dual purposes of rapidly
chilling contents and achieving long-term
ice retention.

If you are looking to super-chill your beverages, here is a pro tip that can make the
dierence:Rock Salt. This will produce some of the coldest drinks you have ever had…
and in a relatively short period of time. Here’s how to do it:
1. Properly fill your YETI® Hopper with beer and plenty of ice
2. Generously sprinkle rock salt on top of ice and zip it closed
3. Wait 30 minutes, then enjoy frigid awesomeness

USING ROCK SALT
PRO TIP:
WARNING:Once you master this technique, you may not want
to drink beer any other way.
Limit cooler access
Frequent unzipping and opening will accelerate ice melt. Every time you open your
cooler, you are letting cold air escape. Limit cooler access and the time the cooler is open,
especially when it is very warm outside. In extreme cases, professionals limit their cooler
access to a few times per day.
