1.0 GE ERAL DESCRIPTIO
The Z3Cam-DX™ by Z3 Technology is a Dual Spec rum Camera. The Z3Cam-DX offers a dis inc ive
combina ion of 4K Visible Video and Thermal imaging providing de ailed si ua ional awareness. The Z3Cam-
DX combines video compression exper ise from Z3 Technology wi h Sony’s worldwide leading 4K camera
echnology and DRS Tamarisk’s renown hermal imaging. Independen ly and remo ely con rol bo h he 4K
and hermal camera while recording and simul aneously moni oring he s reams in dual or Pic ure-in-
Pic ure mode. The Z3Cam-DX has 30x zoom using Sony’s pa en ed Super Resolu ion Zoom, and high
con ras hermal imaging. The innova ive Z3Cam-DX has mul iple op ions for your IP ransmission including
MPEG-2 TS (UDP), RTP, RTSP, RTMP* and TSRTP. The sys em can ou pu bo h H.265/HEVC and H.264 video
over IP in 4K resolu ions. I is also capable of producing a secondary s ream wi h a smaller resolu ion or
differen codec. Camera con rol can ake place remo ely wi h a Web based configura ion in erface, ONVIF

Profile S and wi h VISCA con rol commands sen over IP o he Z3Cam-DX. The Z3Cam-DX leverages a Sony
FCB-ER8530 block camera and a DRS Tamarisk camera.
The Z3Cam-DX brings clari y and de ail o high movemen and low ligh condi ions wi h op imized 4K
echnology. This uni cap ures s unning video wi h 30x zoom wi h in egra ed au o focus. The Z3Cam-DX
provides crys al clear images for broadcas , indus rial, medical, securi y and corpora e applica ions while
adding he abili y o broadcas and analyze your video around he world.

2.1 Supported Resolutions

The Z3Cam-DX suppor s simul aneous ou pu of up o hree s reams encoded a differen resolu ions,
frame ra es and bi ra es. Suppor ed s ream resolu ions are:
2160p (8MP), 1440p (4MP), 1080p (2MP), 1280x1024, 720p (1MP), 480p, 576p, 1024x576, 704x576,
640x480, 640x360, 420x380, 352x576, 352x288, 352x240, 320x240, and 320x180
In addi ion o scaling he resolu ion, he camera is also capable of scaling down he frame ra e o save
bandwid h. Each channel can selec from full frame ra e, half frame ra e or a quar er frame ra e. For
example, i is possible o configure a primary s ream of 3840x2160 a 30 fps simul aneously wi h a
secondary s ream a 1280x720 a 7.5 fps.
The maximum performance for wo channels is one 2160p30 plus one 1080p30 s ream wi h Version 2
hardware or one 720p30 s ream wi h Version 1 hardware.

5.0 GETTI G STARTED WITH Z3Cam-DX
This sec ion gives s ep-by-s ep ins ruc ions on using your PC o access he Z3Cam-DX user in erface. Here
you’ll be able o change he se ings o fi your video s reaming needs and con rol he camera. In addi ion
o he Z3Cam-DX, a Windows PC, a 12V power supply and an E herne cable are required.
5.1 Connect and Power Up the Camera
(1) Connec an E herne cable from Ethernet on he back of he camera o a swi ch, rou er or o her
DHCP server on he same ne work as your Windows PC.
(2) Connec he 12V power supply o +12V on he camera and plug in o a power ou le .
If Power over E herne (PoE) is available, hen no connec ion o he power supply is required.

5.2 Access the User Interface Using ZFinder
(1) ZFinder is a PC u ili y ha allows you o find any Z3 Technology produc on your ne work. If you
have no ye downloaded his o your compu er, you can find his program a Z3Cam-
DX.Z3 echnology.com.
(2) Verify your PC is se o DHCP. If i is se o a s a ic IP address, ZFinder may be unable o discover
your camera.
(3) Note: he Z3Cam-DX is set to DHCP by default. If no DHCP server is available on the network, a static IP
address of 192.168.0.120 and a netmask of 255.255.0.0 will be assigned. he IP address can be manually
entered as the URL in a browser window to access the user interface.
(4) Run he ZFinder PC u ili y on your PC. You may need o allow i pas any firewalls or securi y
programs on your PC. The ZFinder window appears and comple es a scan of he ne work. ZFinder
hen lis s all Z3 sys ems connec ed o he ne work. The Z3Cam-DX appears.
(5) Click on he Z3Cam-DX en ry in he window o selec i . This will cause he Edit Device, Open
Device and Flash LEDs bu ons o ac iva e.

Note: Selecting Edit Device allows for manual changes to network settings. See Section 10.10, ZFinder, for more
information.
Note: If the device appears in red, there is a network error, and network settings will need to be modified in
order to access the user interface.
(6) Click on Open Device. An in erne browser window is opened in your defaul web browser (for bes
resul s, Firefox or Chrome are recommended) and he user in erface appears wi h he Sys em Se up
ab open.

6.0 STREAMI G CO TROL
This sec ion gives s ep-by-s ep ins ruc ions on se ing he Z3Cam-DX o ou pu and s ream video using each
of he ou pu forma op ions: UDP, RTP, RTSP and RTMP. In addi ion o he Z3Cam-DX, a Windows PC wi h
he VLC media player

downloaded is required. Please see Sec ion 8.4, Decoder Op ions, for more
informa ion on compa ible decoders and PC configura ion and requiremen s for H.265/HEVC decode a 4K
resolu ions.
6.1 Stream UDP
6.1.1 UDP Camera Setup
Note: Settings in the user interface cannot be changed if the unit is currently encoding.
(1) If necessary, click on he Stop bu on in he Channel Controls sec ion of he user in erface CH1 ab
or he Stop All bu on in he lower righ corner of he screen of any ab.
(2) Verify he Output Resolution is se o Follow Input o ou pu a 4K s ream. If a lower resolu ion
ou pu is desired, selec his in he dropdown menu and resizing will occur.
(3) Selec he Video Codec you would like o use for your video encoding. In he pic ured example
H265(HEVC) is selec ed.
(4) Under Ou pu Se up, selec UDP in he Output Format dropdown menu.
(5) Se Des Address o:
a. he IP address of your PC ha will be running he VLC media player. To de ermine he
correc IP address of your PC, see APPENDIX A: Finding he IP Address of Your Compu er. In
he example pic ured, 192.168.0.6 is used.
b. or a mul icas address. An example mul icas address would be 225.1.2.3. If you are on a
shared ne work, check wi h your Ne work Adminis ra or.
(6) Make no e of he value lis ed for Dest Port. This will be 8600 by defaul when your sys em is firs
received.
Note: By default a limited selection of video encoding settings are available in the user interface. See Section
8.2, “Advanced Settings Mode”, for more information on accessing additional settings.
(7) Click on he Start bu on. Af er a momen , he encoder s a us will change o RU I G and he
fields above will appear in dark grey. The s a us LED on he uni will blink green when s reaming.

6.1.2 Run VLC to View UDP Stream
Note: Verify your PC is set up to handle decode of H.265 content at 4K resolutions. See Section 9.1, “PC
Configuration for 4K HEVC/H.265 Decode”, for more information.
(1) Open he VLC media player on your PC.
(2) Selec he Media menu.
(3) Selec Open Ne work S ream.
(4) Under he Ne work ab, en er “udp://@Dest_Address:Dest_Port” for he ne work URL.
c. Dest_Address will be values of he IP address or mul icas address en ered in he Dest
Address field in he user in erface CH1 ab. The IP address used in his example is
192.168.0.6.
d. Dest_Port will ma ch he value found in he Dest Port field in he Encoder ab. The defaul
value is 8600.

6.2 Stream RTP
6.2.1 RTP Camera Setup
Note: Settings in the user interface cannot be changed if the unit is currently encoding.
(1) Re urn o he user in erface, and if necessary, click on he Stop bu on in he Channel Controls
sec ion of he user in erface CH1 ab or he Stop All bu on in he lower righ corner of he screen
of any ab.
(2) Verify Output Resolution is se o Follow Input o ou pu a 4K s ream. If a lower resolu ion ou pu
is desired, selec his in he dropdown menu and resizing will occur.
(3) Selec he codec you would like o use for your video encoding. In he pic ured example,
H265(HEVC) is selec ed.
(4) Under Ou pu Se up, selec RTP in he Output Format dropdown menu.
Note: By default a limited selection of video encoding settings are available in the user interface. See Section
8.2, “Advanced Settings Mode”, for more information on accessing additional settings.
