OVERVIEW
The IRIS camera system enables you to view live and recorded images on your mobile phone from your
IRIS camera. This may be security surveillance or entertainment live video, simultaneously accessed by
more than one person dialling in from a registered mobile.
The remote camera can be utilised in two ways. You can connect to the camera at any time to view live
images or operate in ‘alarm mode’ when the camera is continually monitoring for movement. If movement
is detected the camera will immediately upload the captured images to a secure server and alert you by
sending an SMS (text message) to your phone.
These images can then be viewed on your mobile phone after loading the IrisPlayer software.
Remove all the items from the packaging.
www.videocommunity.tv is a web based community for all users of the Iris camera system.
The world wide forum gives members access to a whole host of interesting video clips and content from
other Iris users as well as the chance to connect to live Iris cameras around the world.
Also find out how to make your Iris camera publicly available and become an overnight TV star!
Watch entertaining videos, play games, enter competitions and win great prizes or simply meet and
discuss interesting topics with other like minded Iris camera users.
Upload video clips taken with your Iris camera. We will showcase the funniest, sexiest, craziest and just
plain silly videos from around the world. Just make sure they are entertaining!

A pin number and name for the camera e.g. Lounge, Garage etc).
Your mobile phone number, plus make and model and numbers of any other mobile phones that you
wish to use to view the camera.
During registration you will be asked for several pieces of information. To ensure a trouble free
setup, please make sure you have this information to hand and ensure you call from a landline
and not the mobile that will be used to view the camera.
GETTING STARTED

screen with minimum resolution of 128x128
pixels and be Java compatible (refer to the
User Manual supplied with your mobile).

Attach the battery and secure using the

Plug the mains adaptor into the camera and
mains outlet socket.
If the product is being used externally the mains
outlet should be an IP rated approved unit.
A sheltered location is recommended as the IP54
rating will only provide limited protection and will
not make the camera immune to potential damage
in severe weather conditions.
Switch mains supply to ON and leave for at least
12 hours to ensure the battery is fully charged.*
*FAILURE TO DO THIS CAN DAMAGE THE BATTERY.
CAUTION: RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS
REPLACED BY INCORRECT TYPE.
Before using your camera for the first time, you will need to register the ownership. Please register
online at www.3rdisecure.tv and then call our call centre on 01443 819328 for the sim in your
camera to be activated to your account.
During charging a solid orange light will appear on the front of the camera this indicates that the
unit is charging but not usable. When the orange led starts to flash this indicates the camera
is fully charged and ready for use (A full description of LED status can be found on page 13).

Your existing mobile network provider will bill you each time you access the IRIS camera through
your mobile phone.
When deciding upon your GPRS data tariff, bear in mind that 1MB of data relates to approximately 150
seconds of camera monitoring. GPRS is charged according to the amount of data transmitted and not
by call duration. Advice should be sought from your network provider.
DOWNLOADING THE IRISPLAYER SOFTWARE
During registration of your camera the 3rdisecure
call center will send an SMS (text message) to
your mobile phone containing a link to the
IRISPLAYER software.
To download the IRISPLAYER software to your
mobile you need to follow the link contained in
the SMS. (The operator will guide you through
the process.)
After you have followed the link and accepted the
terms and conditions, the software will take
approximately 30 seconds to download.
The IRISPLAYER software will be placed on your
mobile. During the download process your mobile
may indicate the location of the IRISPLAYER
depending on the make and model of your
mobile phone, it normally appears in the games
or application menu.
If the mobile network is congested, it
may take up to 24 hours after registering
before you can access the camera.

In Alarm mode a text message is sent to your mobile when the camera is activated by movement or
mains power loss. The text message tells you the camera name, the time of the alarm and which type
of alarm event occurred. When the camera records an alarm event, it stores 2 frames before, 4 frames
during and 2 frames after the event. This recording is automatically transmited to a secure server.
When the alarm trigger has been activated and the clip has been sent, the camera will wait for 30
seconds for there to be an absence of movement (in other words, for the scene to 'calm down') before
going back into alarm mode. This ensures that continuous movement does not trigger continuous alerts
and the sending of a large number of video clips.
2. Press in and hold the camera ON/Off switch
until the green LED illuminates, then release.

The size of the pictures delivered to your phone
will be automatically set to fit your phone’s screen
size. You can change the quality of pictures
delivered to your phone using the IrisPlayer

The image size can be changed via the IrisPlayer
software between Large, Medium and Small.

Check for network coverage – the yellow LED should be flashing when the camera is transmitting
either live video or alarm frames.
OVERVIEW
STAND MOUNTING
When positioning the camera bear in mind that the PIR (movement sensor) has an operational range of
approximately 5 metres and 70° angle of detection (Figure 3).
The camera is supplied with a 2.5 metre cable so a mains outlet socket must be within range
for the plug-in mains adaptor.
The camera can be used free standing or mounted permanently by the two fixing screws supplied.
While mounting the camera it is helpful to view live camera images to ensure the camera view
covers the desired area see Viewing Online Camera Images (page 5).

USE OF THE UK DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998
The IRIS range of CCTV products help to provide users with peace of mind by improving security on their premises.
In recent times, we have had a number of queries about the impact of the UK Data Protection Act 1998 on the use of
Home CCTV. The information below seeks to help customers who have concerns over their legal obligations in respect
of this Act.
CODE OF PRACTICE
A code of practice, issued by the UK Data Protection Commissioner in July 2000, sought to clarify the individual
sections of the Act, making it easier for CCTV operators to understand their obligations. It is stated in the introduction to
this code that:
“It is not intended that the contents of this Code should apply to:- …
Security equipment (including cameras) installed in homes by individuals for home security purposes.”
AN ENDNOTE WITHIN THE CODE OF PRACTICE STATES:
“It is likely that the use of cameras by individuals to protect their own property is excluded from the provisions of the Act
under the exemption at Section 36 of the Act.”
THE UK DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998
The UK Data Protection Act 1998, Chapter 29, Part IV features a list of exemptions from the Act. Section 36 states:
“Personal Data processed by an individual only for the purposes of that individual’s personal, family or
household affairs (including recreational purposes) are exempt from the data protection principles and the
provisions of Parts II and III.”
SUMMARY / MORE INFORMATION
Therefore, it is our understanding that, when IRIS CCTV cameras are used for domestic purposes, including that of
protecting property, the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998 do not apply.
Full copies of the UK Data Protection Act 1998 and the Code of Practice can be viewed online at:
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/19980029.htm

We recommend that customers who have any further doubts about their own individual situation should seek legal advice.
