1.3 Operati ng detem inations
This device is a moving-head spot for creating decorative effecis. This product is only allowed to be
operated wiih ân alternaiing cuffent of 230 V, 50 Hz and was designed for indoor use only.
lf the device hâs been exposed to drastic iem perature fuctualion (e.9. after kansportation), do not
swiich it on immediaiely. The arising condensation water mighl damage your device. Leave the device
swiiched off unlil it has reached room temperature.
Never run the device without lampl
Do not shake lhe device. Avoid brLrte force when installing or operaling the device.
Never lift lhe fixture by holding it ai the projector-head, as the mechânics may bê darnaged. Always
hold thefixiure at theiranspori handles.
When choosing the installâiion-spot, please make surelhat ihe device is not exposed lo extreme heat,
moisture or dust. There should not be any cables lying around. You endanger your ow1 and the safety
of olhersl
The minimum distance between light-oulput and the illuminated ôurfâce must be more than 1 meter.
ÀIake sure thât lhe area belowlhe instâllation piace is blocked when rigging, deranging or setuicing the
lixture.
AJways fix the fixture with an appropriate safet-rope. Fix the safety-rope at the correci holès only.
Only operale the fixture after having chêcked that the housing is firmiy closed and all screws âre tightly
fastened.
The lamp mirst never be ignited ifthe objectivelens or any housjng-coveris open, as dischalge lamps
may explode and emit a high ult.aviolet .âdiation, which may cause burns.
The maximum ambienl temperature ta = 45' C must never be exceeded. Otherwise, the Iamp is switched
off and the flxture is out ofoperation for 5 minutes.
CAUTION!
The lens has to be replaced when il is obviously damagôd, so that its
funcllon is impaired, e, g. due to cracks ordeep sctatches!
Ope€te the device only after having familiarized with ils functions. Do not pemit operation by persons

3. lnstallation
3.1 Fitting the lamp
To insert the lamp MSD 230v/250W or MSD 230Vl200W open the top cover of the head (s€e the
drawings to identify which ôover is top) by loosening the 2 Phillips screws on top of plastic cov€r. Th€n
open lhe srnall lâmp cover by loosening 2 fâstening sarews (see the drêwng).

Do not touch the glagsbulb bar+handed during the ingtallation! Make sure that the lamp is installed
tightly ir{o the lamp holder system.
Adjust the optim al distance 1 - 1 . 5 mm from the lens by turn ing the screw "/d" (see the drawings " Lamp
adju8trnènf' below).
Then clos€ the s.n€ll lamp cover by tighten 3 fast€ning screws again.
Reclose lhe top cov€r of the head and lighten the 4 Phillips screws.
Betore striking the lemp, reset th€'LAil" counter in th6 main menu of thê Control Boerd, by pressing
the "ljp" and "Down" bultons in one lime and then contirming wilh th6 Entêr-button.

3.2 Lamp adjustment

The SPICA 250M lamp hdder is eligned âtthe factory. Due to differences beb/veen lamps, fine edjustment
may improve light p€rformanc€.
Strike lhe lamp and focus the lighl on a ffat surface (wall). As the optimum disiance of lampfrom lens was
âdjusted d!ring the instâlling or chang ng thê lâmp (by turning the screw "A'), it is necessary to adjusl only
the second position by turning the screw '8 , in order io centre ihe holspot (the brightesi pa.i of the
beâm).
lfthe Hot Spot seems io be too bright, you can lower its rntensity by moving the lafip closer to the
renector Do so by tuming screw "A" until the light is evenly distribuled.
lfthe light on the edge seemsto be brighteras in lhe centre, the lamp is too close at the reflector. ln this
case, you need to move the lamp away from the reflector until the light is evenly distribuled and the
beam appears bright enough.
3.3 In serting/Ex chan gin g gobos
To insert the gobos open the lop cover of the heâd by loosening the 2 Phillips screws on the top op plastic

Occupation of the XLR-connection
lf you âre using the standard controllers, you can connect the DMx-olrtput ofthe conlroller directly wilh
the DIVX-input ofthe firsl fixture in the Dl\4x-chain. lf yo! wish to conneôt Dl\rx-controlers wiih oiher
XlR-outputs, you need to use adepteÊcables.
Buildlng â serial DMx.chain
Connecl the DMx-outpul of the firsl lxture in the DMX-chain with lhe Dfirx-input ofthe next fixture.
Alwâys connect one output with the inpll ofthe next fixture until alltixtures are connecled.
Caution At the last fixture, the D[,,|X-cable has to be terminated with a terminator. Soldêr a '120 Ohm
resislor between Signal (É) ând Signal (+) into a 3-pin XLR-plug and plug it in the Dl\4x-outpui of the
lasl fixlure.
4. Rigging the fixture
The SPICA 250M can be placed directly on the stage floor or rigged in âny odentiation on e truss
without altedng its opeÉtion charâctedstics (see the drawing).

5. Addressing
The control board on thefront panel ofthe SPICA 250M allows you to ass gn the DMXfixture
address, which is defined as ihe flrsi channel from which ihe SPICA 250NI will respond to the
coniroller.
lf you set, for example, the address to chânnel 5, the SPICA 250[4 wi]l use the channei 5 to 20 for

[Up] and lDowlr] keys untilthe djsplay shows "rq001". Confiûn by pressing lEnter] key and the letter

After having addressed all SPICA 250M, you may now start operating these via your lighting

6. Remotely controllable functions
6.1 Lamp
The SPICA 250M s run with a IVISD 250W200W lamp.

even missed. or there could be a failure on the ignitor or bailast.
6-3 Colour wheel
The SPICA 250M features a colour-wheel with 9 colour posilions ' I of ihese with dichroic colors
and the last one open. The vfteel can be positioned between two adlacent colors in any position. li Ls
also possible to rotate the color-wheel continuously at different speeds - the so-called 'Rainbow effect'
is created.
6.4 Rotating gobo wheel
The rotating gobo-wheel ncludes 5 metêl gobos in both d rections, rndexâble, roiating gobo whee cont

6.8 Fan
The SPICA 250M is cooled by two axial fans - one each in the projector head ând one in the base.
The 6peed ofihe ian (and of course the noise) can be continuous y reduced ifvery qulet performance
is required.
By the Control Board us ng the "FAnS" function you cen choose 4 iypes of low fan speed operating:
'l- "HIGH" - high (max.) speed of tans
The cooling fans work on max. speed (max. cooling)

7. Control Board
Ïhe control board sltuated on ihe fiont pane of the SPICA 250[4 offers sev eral feaiu res. You can
simply set the lightrng address, read the numberof lamp or unit hours, swilch On ând Off the lâmp, run
lesl show, make a reset ând also use special functions for mânuâI, demo and s€rvice purposes
The main menu s accessed by pressing the \rodel kêy - press this one so many iimes untillhe
display shows message '4001" (with actually slored address). Browse through ihe menu by the press ng
luplandlDown]keys-thedsplayshowsstepbyslepthesemessages:A001,rPAn,rTilt, 16br Lati
Poti, LAMP, dEMo, iESE, SPEC. Press lEnter] if yo! ûsh to select one of them. The funcUons provided
are described in the following sections and the function hierarchy is shown below

Movemedt resolution

resolulion the fixture will occupy 16 Dl\4X channels, if you adjust the 8 bit
resolulion, the ixlure will be operâted by only 1 4 DII,X channels. Please, check
the DIMX Droiocol.
LâmD On time
LHT, Thls option enables you to read the total number of hours that the larnp has
been powered On. Press lEnter] or lModel to return to the main menu. ln
orde. to reset lhe counterto 0, you have to hold the [Up] and lDown]-button
ând Dress ihe iEnlerl-button.
Power On time

Demo sequences
dE{la Thisfunction allows you io run â speciâl demo-iest sequences without an
externai controller, which will show you some possibilities of using SPICA
250Àr. Press [Up] and lDown] keys io select the "Modl' or "Mod2"
sequences. The 'Mod I " is suitable for proiections on the wâll, ceiling or ground
without any head-movemeni, the "Mod2" uses al SPICA 250 functions and
therefore is oood for a comoleie inlroduciion oflhe fixture.

through the adlusting menu - the display shows siep by step these messâges:
'PAn, Tilt, SPEd, Colo, EFEC, Prot, rGOB, G.ot, Foc, Stro, dimr, FCAL" by
which you can adjust the fixture to the required/desired posiuon (0-255) before
thefunction calibration. Then when the positioning is finished use the lest
"FCAL" function (Fixture calibration).
