TheADAPedalBoardFriendlyFLANGERisanall‐analog
flangerbasedontherenownedADAFLANGERpedalsproduced
inthelate1970sinBerkeleyCalifornia.Itisprimarilydesigned
forelectricguitarandbassguitar,butcanbeusedwithother
electronicmusicalinstrumentsandintherecordingstudio.The
PBFFLANGERdeliverstheuniquetone,rangeandcharacterof
theoriginalADAdesigns,alongwithmanynewfeatures.The
PBFFLANGERnowhasaBASSswitchwhichkeepsthebottom
endtight,distinctandsmooth.TheRANGEcontrolisnow
taperedtomakeiseasiertodial‐insubtlevibratos,vocalwahs
andstaccatopulsing.TheSPEEDcontrolhasbeenexpandedfor
fasterandslowerrates.ThePBFhasasmallerenclosure–
convenientlythesamefootprintasthecommondie‐cast
enclosuresthathavebecomethenormforpedalboards.The
PBFFLANGERismanufacturedinCalifornia.


2. WhatdoIdoifmyproductisnotworking?
IfyourproductisnotworkingweSTRONGLYsuggestthatyou
runaseriesofquickteststotroubleshoottheunit(seeabove).
Theymaysoundverybasic,butitcansaveyoutimeingetting
yourunitworkingandyoubacktoplaying.Ifyouarean
international(non‐USA)customer,youmustcontactyourlocal
dealerand/oryournationaldistributorforrepair.Ifyouarein
theUSAandtheunittrulydoesnotwork,email

numberfromus.

3. WhatdoIdoafterreceivingmyRAnumber?
Youwillneedtoboxyourunit,writeyourReturnAuthorization
(RA)numberontheoutsideoftheshippingboxinlarge,bold
lettering,andsendittotheaddresssuppliedwiththeRAyou
receivedfromus.YouareresponsibleforshippingtoADA,so
pleasetrackandinsureyourparcels.ADAcannotbeheld
responsibleforparcelsthatarelostordamagedintheshipping
process.ADAcannotacceptyourshipmentifthereisnoRA
numberwrittenontheoutsideofthebox.


YourPBFFLANGERiswarrantedagainstdefectsinmaterialand
workmanshipforaperiodofthree‐hundredandsixtyfive(365)days
fromdateofpurchase.Thiswarrantyistotheoriginalownerandis
non‐transferable.Duringthewarrantyperiod,ADAoritsagentwill,at
itssoleoption,repairorreplacedefectivepartsandmakenecessary
repairstotheproductwhichisdefectiveatnocharge.Ifthefailureis
theresultofmisuse,abuse,accidentormisapplication,ADAhasno
obligationtorepairorreplacethefailedproduct.ADAretainsthe
righttomakesuchdeterminationonthebasisoffactoryinspection.
ADAwillnotberesponsibleforanyspeakerordevicedamagedbythe
FLANGER.Thiswarrantyremainsvalidonlyifrepairsareperformedby
ADAoritsagentandprovidedthattheserialnumberontheunithas

oldCONTROLPEDALA(aswellasotherexpressionpedals)work
withthePBFFlanger.Youcanalsoinputavoltagefrom0to+10
Voltstosetthedelaytime.Seethewiringdiagrambelow.


TIPS

ThePBFFLANGERsweeps"tothetop"butnot"thru‐zero"bychoice.
Thru‐zeroflangingisusefulforafullmix,butnotforaguitarbecause
theguitarsignaldropsoutatthethru‐zeropoint(orissubstantially
boosted)whichisnotmusicalsounding.ADAfeelsthatifyouwant
thateffect,aTremoloisabetterwaytoachievethevolumelevel
modulation.

TheRANGEmixestheMANUALandtheSPEEDvoltagessoyoucan
adjusttherangeandpositionoftheSPEED.SettingtheRANGEfully
counterclockwiseeliminatestheSWEEPandtheMANUAL(or
CONTROLPEDAL)hasfullcontroloverthesettingoftheFLANGER
delaytime,from0.35mSto15.3mS.

TheENHANCEfeedsbackthedelayedsignaltothewet/drymixto
increasetheintensityoftheflangingeffecttothepointofhighly
resonantoscillationor“DarthVader”sounds.


TheHARMONICSswitchinconjunctionwithanextremeENHANCE
settingcanradicallyshapeyourflangingtone,especiallywhenthe
SPEEDisoff(RANGEsetfullyCCW).ByturningtheRANGEvery
slightlyCWandsettingtheSPEEDtoabout3Hz,averynicevibrato
canbeachieved.MovingtheMANUALcontrolCWdecreasesthe
depthofthevibratoanddetuning.

TheTHRESHOLDisanadjustablelevelgatethatcandropoutthe
delayedsignalatlowlevelsorbeusedto"turnon"theflangeeffect
withtheinputsignalamplitude.Playingheavilyturnsontheflanging
effect,whileplayinglightlyturnsofftheflangingeffect.


Sometimesafewquicktestsathomecanbethedifference
betweenthinkingyourunitisbrokenandgettingitworking
properly.Hereisalistofquicktrouble‐shootingstepstotest
yourgearandunit.Asbasicasthesesoundpleaserunallthe
tests.

Checksimplesignalchain:Plugyourcablefromyourguitar
intoyouramp.Ifyouhaveadirectconnecttonegotostep2.If
notyouhaveabadcable,guitaroramp.
Check2ndcable:Takeyour2ndcableandswitchitwiththe
firstcable.Ifyouhavesound,wenowknowbothcables,your
guitarandamp,work.
Checkpower:Plugyourampintothesameoutletthatyou’re
usingtopoweryourADAproduct.Iftheampturnson,thenthe
outletworks.Ifnottryanotheroutlettopoweryourunit.
ChecknativeADASignalChain:Plugthefirstcablefromyour
guitarintoyourADAproduct(input).Plugthe2ndcable
betweenyourADAproduct(output)andintoyouramp.Make
suretheADAispluggedintoaworkingpowersource.DONOT
insertitinapedalchain,i.e.,donotintroduceanyotherpedals
intothesignalchain.

