Digital Audio Option Installation
Procedure 1 – Installing the Digital Audio Hardware
If your WSD/HDe chassis is rack-mounted, please remove the chassis from the rack before beginning this procedure — by removing all the
cables from the rear of the chassis, and then removing the chassis itself from the rack.
1. Remove the AC power cord.
A. At the rear of the WSD/HDe chassis, turn OFF the AC power and unplug the AC power cord as shown below.
WARNING!
Remove AC Power Before Starting!
Be sure to remove AC input power from the
WSD/HDe chassis prior to removal of the top
cover. Failure to do so could result in a
severe electrical shock that could cause
serious personal injury and even death!
2. Remove the (18) Philips-head screws from the top cover.
A. Using a large Philips-head screwdriver, remove the (18) Philips-head screws that secure the top cover to the WSD/HDe chassis.
There are (4) screws on the rear edge, (4) screws at the front of the chassis, (5) screws on the left edge and (5) screws on the
right edge of the top panel.
B. Gather up and retain these (18) screws, and lift the cover off the chassis as shown below.

3. Loosen and Rotate the PCI blanking plate retaining flanges on slots #1 and #3.
A. Loosen slightly and rotate the retaining flanges to the vertical position for the blanking plates in PCI board slots #1 and #3, as
shown below.
4. Inside the chassis, remove the Philips-head screw and the blanking plates in PCI slots #1 and #3.
A. Remove the Philips-head screw that secures the blanking plates, and then remove the blanking plates in PCI slots #1 and #3, as
shown below. Be sure to retain these two Philips-head screws, since you will need them later.

Procedure 2 – Changing the Drive Letter / Verifying the “QTMovies” Folder
Install the WSD/HDe in your equipment rack (if it was removed from the rack), and reattach all the cables to the rear panel of the
WSD/HDe. You may want to perform the procedure below BEFORE re-installing the chassis in the equipment rack, in case there is a
problem encountered that you will need to fix.
Before the two audio disk drives included in this Digital Audio Option kit were shipped from the Accom factory, they were formatted as a
RAID-1 (mirror) volume, given a volume name of “Audio Data”, and had a “QTMovies” folder created on the volume. When you install
these two disk drives into your WSD/HDe, all of this information about the disk drives will be retained and present. However, the Windows
operating system will automatically assign the drive letter “D” to this new disk drive volume in your WSD/HDe. This is incorrect, and must
be changed to drive letter “G” in order for the WSD/HDe to use the drive volume properly. The following procedure details the simple
procedure to change the drive letter volume.
1. Turn ON and boot up the WSD/HDe.
A. Following the usual power-on procedure, reapply AC power to the WSD/HDe chassis and turn on the power with the switch
located on the REAR of the WSD/HDe chassis (located just above the AC power cord).
B. Press the “POWER” momentary push button located at the FRONT of the WSD/HDe chassis (behind the front panel).
C. On the VGA display attached to the WSD/HDe, wait for the Windows 2000 O/S to boot up, and the WSD/HD “Heidi Edit”
application to appear.
2. QUIT all applications (including “Heidi Edit” and “Internet Explorer”).
A. Before continuing with the following steps, be sure to quit ALL applications that are running in Windows 2000.
3. Open the Computer Management Window.
A. On the WSD/HDe desktop right-click the mouse on the “My Computer” icon, and then select the “Manage” item in the pop-up
window that appears, as shown in the LEFT illustration below. This will open the “Computer Management” window, as shown
in the RIGHT illustration below.

This will present the disk management view in the RIGHT pane, as shown above.
C. In the lower RIGHT pane where the “Disk1” and “Audio Data (D:)” items are displayed, right-click the mouse on the section
labeled “Audio Data (D:)”. This will present a pop-up menu list, as shown below.
Right-click the mouse in this area.
D. In the pop-up menu list that appears (shown above), click the mouse on the “Change Drive Letter and Path…” item. This will
present the “Change Drive Letter and Paths for Audio Data (D:)” dialog window, as shown below.

window that appears, as shown in the LEFT illustration below. This will open the “My Computer” window, as shown in the
RIGHT illustration below.
K. In the “My Computer” window (shown above) click the small + button to the LEFT of the “Audio Data (G:)” item. This will
expand the view for this disk drive volume, as shown below.
L. Verify there is a “QTMovies” folder in the “Audio Data (G:)” disk drive volume, as shown above. If there’s no “QTMovies” folder
there, create it by right-clicking in the RIGHT pane of the window shown above, then selecting the “New” item.
M. You may now close the “Audio Data” window (shown above), and then launch the “HeidiEdit” and “Internet Explorer” applications
to operate the WSD/HDe in the usual manner.
