COMPACT T-BAG
INSTRUCTIONS AND CARE
IMPORTANT: BEFORE INITIAL USE AND BEFORE EVERY USE THEREAFTER:
- STEP ONE: ALWAYS inspect your Compact T-Bag very thoroughly for any damage and/or cuts. Do
not continue to use your Compact T-Bag if you notice any damage and/or cuts.
- STEP TWO: ALWAYS fully submerge your zipped-closed Compact T-Bag without a camera inside in
water for up to 10 minutes to test for any leaks. Expel the air from inside of your Compact T-Bag
before doing this. After removing from the water, check inside your Compact T-Bag to make sure it
did not leak. *Adding a few pounds of weight inside the Compact T-Bag will aide in submerging your
system.
NOTE: These steps are very important and should never be ignored. ASL Gear, Inc. accepts no
responsibility for damaged cameras or Compact T-Bags. It is up to the user to carefully handle, use
and maintain the Compact T-Bag.
TO BEGIN USE:
- Raise the front lens section of the bag to the 90˚upright position, fully open the zipper and tighten
the hex head bolt on the inside hinge behind the front port. (3/16 hex key supplied)
- Remove the camera plate from the saddle.
- Attach the camera plate to the bottom of your camera and make sure your camera package is as
compact as possible so that it will easily fit it into your Compact T-Bag. It is possible to leave the
camera lens shade on your camera when using the flat port lens. *If your camera requires lift for
centering, please contact AbelCineTech (www.abelcine.com) for the recommended camera riser plate.
- Carefully place the camera into your Compact T-Bag with the camera plate toward the bottom and
secure it onto the camera saddle. DO NOT FORCE ANY PART OF THIS OPERATION OR PUT ANY
UNNECESSARY STRESS ON YOUR COMPACT T-BAG.
- Align your camera so that the lens is as close to the front port as possible.
- Tighten the camera plate into place.
- Plug any cables you may already have in your Compact T-Bag into your camera and then FULLY ZIP
the Compact T-Bag closed. *Use the supplied Zipper lubricant as needed
NOTE: Your Compact T-bag is supplied with a purge valve. Upon submersion, internal air will bleed
automatically from the T-Bag. You may adjust the amount purged with this valve, or lock the valve
from purging by pushing the valve down and turning to the right.
CABLE GLANDS
- There are cable glands on your Compact T-Bag that you can use for cabling purposes such as for use
with the optional 4” underwater HD monitor or RED LCD housing, or for use with any external video
out cables for topside monitoring.
- You have received a couple of cable seal glands with your system. One has a hole that will
accommodate most video cables. The other cable seal gland is a blank that can be modified as
needed for any other cables. Please find the appropriate gland to place around your cable.
2

Install as follows:
- Remove the knurled back cap from the Compact T-Bag along with the stopper gland. Place the
knurled back cap over the cable end, then attach the cable seal gland onto your cable and insert the
end of the cable into your Compact T-Bag. Push the cable seal gland firmly into the female
receptacle making sure it is airtight and then tighten the knurled back cap. *NOTE: Lightly
lubricate the cable and the cable seal gland with the supplied silicone o-ring lubricant before
installing.
- If you are drilling your own gland to accommodate your cable (with the dummy gland supplied),
measure the diameter of your cable, select a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter to drill through the
gland. After drilling, slice a single side of the gland for an opening for the cable. *Refer to one of the
supplied glands as a reference.
NOTE: VERY IMPORTANT – Once you have your cables and cable glands installed in your Compact
T-Bag perform STEP TWO on page two again. Without the camera inside, submerge your Compact T-
Bag underwater for up to 10 minutes in order to make sure the proper cable gland was chosen and
was installed properly.
ADDING THE FRONT PORT AIR NOZZLE
A blue and orange air nozzle and air line has been included with your Compact T-bag. Carefully snap
the end of the flexible blue air line onto the orange connector by your front port on your Compact T-
bag. You can connect a low pressure scuba breather hose to the air nozzle in order to deflect water
from the front port or dome port.
FRONT HANDLES
These can be removed from the Compact T-Bag and they can also be rotated in any position.
CHANGING THE FRONT PORT
- Unscrew the knobs holding in the flat port and then pull the flat port off of your Compact T-Bag.
- Lightly lubricate the o-ring of the port you are installing on the Compact T-Bag with the silicone o-
ring lubricant supplied.
- Push the dome port (optional accessory) into place where you removed the flat port and then tighten
the knobs so that the dome port will be locked into place.
ADDING THE FILTER STAGE ASSEMBLY (optional accessory)
- Remove the front port (see “Changing the Front Port”) and then push the filter stage assembly into
place where the front port had been on your Compact T-Bag. Tighten the knobs on the filter stage
assembly.
- Add the flat port or dome port to the front of the filter stage assembly.
UNDERWATER HD MONITOR (optional accessory)
- If you received the 4” underwater HD monitor with your Compact T-Bag, please note the video input
is HD-SDI only.
3

- You have been supplied with a D-tap connector for powering from the applicable battery plates. You
have also been supplied with a connector with bare ends so that you can connect it to your own
power supply (12v).
- A cable seal gland has been provided with your underwater HD monitor. For installation purposes,
please follow the installation instructions for cable glands on page 3.
RED LCD HOUSING (optional accessory)
- This is ONLY for use with the 5.6” RED LCD. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER LCDS IN THIS HOUSING.
- Your RED LCD housing should have come with a separate instruction page; however, the following
are some general instructions:
- Remove and place the knurled back cap and the supplied cable seal gland on your LCD video cable.
Note: lightly lubricate the cable seal gland with silicone lubricant.
- Open the housing and insert your LCD video cable through the back of the housing. Push the cable
seal gland into place making sure it is a tight connection with the housing. Close the housing,
tighten the knurled back cap and test it per the instructions in the note below.
- After testing the RED LCD Housing, open the housing and connect your LCD video cable to your 5.6”
RED LCD and then carefully seat your LCD in the housing. Again, please remember that once your
LCD monitor is carefully seated, the cable seal gland should still be making a tight connection with
the housing.
- Close the housing, make sure the cable seal gland is firmly seated and tighten the knurled back cap
if necessary.
NOTE: The user should check the RED LCD Housing for leaks in a similar fashion to the Compact T-
Bag before placing their RED LCD in the housing for use. When testing for leaks, already have the
LCD video cable installed in the housing with the cable seal gland.
GENERAL CARE
- Handle carefully at all times.
- Keep away from sharp or pointed objects. Your bag is made of tough, durable material; however, it is
still susceptible to damage.
- Do not place on or near hot objects or heat sources.
- Do not leave your Compact T-Bag in direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
- Clean your Compact T-Bag with mild soap and water.
