1. Introducon
Dear Customer,
We wish to thank you for choosing this Air Uno
cooker hood. In order to get the best performance
from your appliance we recommend that you read
this booklet carefully before operang the appliance
for the rst me.
Revisions to the publicaon
In order to improve the product, to keep this
publicaon up to date the manufacturer reserves
the right to make modicaon without any advance
noce. Any reproducon, even in part, of this
manual without the consent of the manufacturer is
prohibited.
Care of the manual and how to consult it
• Take good care of this manual and keep it in a
place which can be easily and quickly reached.
• If this manual should be lost or destroyed, or if
it is in poor condion, ask for a copy from your
retailer, providing product idencaon data.
• Informaon which is essenal or that requires
special aenon is shown in bold text.
2. Health and Safety
• Installaon of the cooker hood, making
electrical connecons, checking its operaon
and maintenance are all tasks which should be
carried out by qualied and authorised
personnel.
• Install the cooker hood in accordance with the
regulaons in force in your local area, region
and country.
• For the correct use of the appliance and to
prevent accidents, the instrucons given in this
booklet must always be followed.
• Before beginning any operaon, the user, or
whoever is preparing to operate on the
appliance, must have read and understood the
enre contents of this instrucon booklet.
• All responsibility for improper use is taken
enrely by the user and as such relieves Air Uno
of any civil or criminal responsibility.
• In view of the fact that it is an electrical
appliance, do not touch the appliance with wet
hands.
• Before carrying out any cleaning or
maintenance operaon, make sure in advance
that the appliance is isolated from the mains
electricity supply.
• Incorrect installaon or faulty maintenance (not
conforming to the requirements set out in this
booklet) can cause harm to people, animals or
property. In such cases Air Uno is absolved from
any civil or criminal responsibility.
This product complies with EU Direcve
EU2002/96/EC.
The crossed bin symbol on the appliance indicates
that the product, at the end of its life, must be
disposed of separately from domesc waste, either
by taking it to a separate waste disposal site for
electric and electronic appliances or by returning it
to your dealer when you buy another similar
appliance. The user is responsible for taking the
appliance to a special waste disposal site at the end
of its life. If the disused appliance is collected
correctly as separate waste, it can be recycled,
treated and disposed of ecologically.
WARNINGS:
− This appliance can be used by children aged
from 8 years and above and persons with
reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilies, or lack of experience and
knowledge if they have been given supervision
or instrucon concerning use of the appliance in
a safe way and understand the hazards
involved.
− Children shall not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be
made by children without supervision.
ATTENTION

message to which it refers should be
carefully read and understood, because
failure to comply with what these noces
say can cause serious damage to the
extractor and put the user’s safety at risk.
INFORMATION
This symbol is used to highlight
informaon which is important for proper
extractor operaon. Failure to comply
with these provisions will compromise
use of the boiler and its operaon will not
be sasfactory.

this manual or the related instrucons.

− Before cleaning or performing any periodic or
urgent maintenance to the hood, isolate the
mains supply and turn the main switch o.
− Do not connect the hood to any piping used for
combuson appliances, such as burners, boilers
or re places.
− Check that the main power supply corresponds
to the voltage required by the hood, which is
given on the silver label stuck inside the hood.
Ensure that the electric system is correctly
earthed and that the earth discharge works
correctly.
− When cooking do not use any materials that
could form high or unusual ames. Oil that has
been used twice and fats are very dangerous
and could easily catch re. Do not prepare
ambé dishes under the hood.
− Once the specialised technician has completed
the installaon of the hood equipped with a
remote motor, all the leads, connectors, ground
connecons and the remote motor must not be
accessible to the user. Only the installer is
granted access by removing screwed on panel.
− Respect local legislaon and regulaons issued
by the relave authories regarding the exhaust
air when the sucon is operang. Failure to
respect and perform all maintenance and
cleaning operaons described in this handbook
could cause a re hazard.
ATTENTION: Accessible parts may become hot when
the hood is used with cooking appliance.
3. Warranty Informaon
We oer a 4 year warranty on all Airuno cooker
hoods, which will start from the date of delivery.
The warranty covers parts and labour for the 4 year
term based on whether its proved to be either faulty
materials or components. We will at our own
discreon either repair or replace the goods Free of
Charge, including any carriage costs.
This is based on the following condions:-
1. The product has been ed/installed as per our
instrucons.
2. The product has been used for normal domesc
purposes only, and in accordance with the
manufacturer’s operang and maintenance
instrucons.
3. The product has been serviced, maintained,
repaired, taken apart or tampered with by any
person not authorised by us.
EXCLUSIONS
This guarantee does not cover:
• Damage or calls resulng from incorrect
installaon, transportaon, improper use or
neglect, the replacement of any light bulbs or
removable parts of glass or plasc.
• Costs incurred for calls to put right appliances
improperly installed or calls to appliances
outside the United Kingdom.
• Normal wear and tera.
• Products deemed to be in use within a
commercial environment.
• Grease lter mesh.
• Bulbs and LEDs.
• Carbon lters.
• Damage caused to the body by usage of
detergent spray or other contaminants.
• Damage or corrosion of the LED pars, glass and
stainless steel parts.
• Any products taken apart or serviced by
unauthorised individuals or service engineers or
replaced with other manufacturer’s
components.
• Product which is not installed with the correct
size ducng.
This guarantee is in addion to your statutory and
legal rights.
3.1 Aer Sales Service
Informaon
A eld service engineer is available to aend a
breakdown occurring during the cooker hoods
guarantee period.
The cooker hood must be made available for
aendance during normal working hours, Monday
to Friday.
3.2 How to Report a Fault
Step 1
• Contact your installaon or service engineer,
who should assess the unit and works carried
out on the appliance prior to requesng the
aendance of an engineer from Airuno.

Step 2
Please note that upon aendance by an Airuno
engineer, a charge will be made where: - The
engineer nds no fault with the cooker hood.
• The cause of the breakdown is due to parts of
the system not manufactured or supplied by
Airuno.
• The cooker hood has not been installed in
accordance with the manufacturer’s
instrucons.
• The cooker hood has not been installed by a
qualied er.
• The breakdown occurs outside the guarantee
period.
• The appliance has not been maintained
correctly.
• The breakdown occurs as a result of work on
the appliance by an unauthorised third-party.
3.3 Technical Assistance
A team of trained technical advisors are available to
discuss any problem with the appliance. In many
cases, the problem may be solved over the
telephone, eliminang the need for an engineer’s
visit. Before making contact, please have the
following informaon ready:
• The details of the Silver label .
• A descripon of the fault and any unusual
behaviour by the cooker hood before the failure
occurred.
• The installaon date.
4. Extractor Operaon
The extractor is operated by a capacive glass slider.
When rst turned on the extractor will always turn
on at speed 2 (V2).
− Intensive speed (V6) is set for a maximum of 5
minutes and then the hood returns to V3.
− The Timer funcon is 10 minutes long and it is
displayed with a ashing LED; it doesn't turn o
when the speed changes.
− Timer funcon and intensive speed can be
acvated at the same me.
− The lter cleaning alarm is acvated aer 40
hours of operaon and it is detected by a
ashing LED associated with the ON/OFF key; to
reset it, press the Timer buon when the motor
is o.
− The hood will turn o automacally aer 4
hours of operaon without user acon.
5. Cooking Hob Operaon
The user interface has implemented an inial
keyboard calibraon focused to adapt the hob
sensibility of the keys, to the nal mechanical,
environmental and user condions.
Any me the hob is unplugged or there is a power
failure that generates a reset in the user interface,
the rst me the key lock is touched the sensivity
of the keyboard is readjusted. This rst touch of the
key lock must be done in certain condions:
Do not use gloves
Use a clean nger
Touch the glass (smooth touching)

5.1 Inial Light Condions
When power is inially applied to the hob, the touch
control conducts a calibraon process for the touch
keys, which requires a low level of ambient light in
the area of the touch keys. If during the calibraon
process excessive ambient lighng is detected the
user interface displays “FL” (Infrared Ambient Light
Error) and the control calibraon is suspended. In
order to recfy the process any lighng that could
aect the calibraon process should be switched o
(e.g. halogen cooker hood lighng). The error will
disappear when sasfactory ambient lighng is
detected and the touch control calibraon
procedure will now complete sasfactorily.
− The “FL” error can only be generated within
approx. 3s of inial power being applied to
the hob.
− We recommend that the user switches o
all cooker hood lighng and lighng
directed towards the hob when power is
inially applied to the hob.
− Aer the touch control has conducted its
inial calibraon process, (approx. 3s) any
cooker hood or other lighng can be
switched on as normal and will not aect
the operaon of the touch control.
5.2 Basic Control Funcons
• The control allows dierent layout
conguraons.
• Full inducon hobs with 3 or 4 zones.
• Keylock funcon.
• Fast boil funcon.
• Stop & Go funcon.
• Independent mer for each zone.
• Indicaon of residual heat for each zone.
• Thermal control protecon.
• Protecon from accidental acvaon of keys:
One or more keys acvated for more than
10 sec -> Switching o the touch control. A
warning beep sounds every 10 sec, while
the key/s is/are acvated.
With all zones at zero power during 10 sec
-> the Hob is switched o. If the switching
o is due to an accidental acvaon of
keys, the touch control actuates as above.
• Acousc warning to aract the user’s aenon.
• Pan detecon for inducon zones; Aer 60 sec
with no pan, the heater switches o.

Sounds
• 3 beeps for switching OFF the Hob
[OFF_SOUND].
• 2 beeps for acvang Stop & Go funcon
[STOP&GO_SOUND].
• Slider sound when the power level is changed.
5.3 Switching On/O the Hob
The hob is switched ON by touching the
[ON_OFF_KEY] for 1 sec. A beep sounds and all the
zone displays show a ‘0’.

If the selecon of a cook set for a zone is not done in
10 seconds, the hob will be turned o automacally.
The hob is switched OFF by touching the
[ON_OFF_KEY] for 1 sec. An [OFF_SOUND] sounds
and all the zones are switched o. The purpose of
the [OFF_SOUND] is to disnguish the OFF acon
over all others.

When the hob is OFF, aer 5 sec without any error/
alarm displayed and without any message to
indicate (residual heat), the control switches o the
[KEYLOCK_LED] in order to reduce the power
consumpon as much as possible.
As soon as a key is touched, the [KEYLOCK_LED]
goes ON and the hob can be operated as normal by
unlocking the keyboard and if necessary touching
the [ON_OFF_KEY] to switch ON the hob.
The [ON_OFF_KEY] will be locked to switch ON the
hob if:
− The key lock is acvated.
− Or if there is an appliance error.
5.4 Selecng the Zone and the
Power Level
To switch on a zone requires two operaons:
• Select a zone
• Select a desired power level
5.4.1 Selecng a zone
A zone is selected by touching the [ZONE_n_KEY] for
160ms, a beep sounds and the zone display shows
the power level.
The zones that are not selected are shown with a
dot.

The [ZONE_n_KEY] will be locked to select a zone if:
− The hob is o (all zone displays are o), or
− The key lock is acvated, or
− There is any zone or appliance error.
The zone selecon will nish:
− 10 seconds aer the last touch over the
[SLIDER] key.
− If another zone is selected.
− Or if the [ZONE_n_KEY] is touched for 160ms.
Aer 10 seconds of the zone selecon, a beep
sounds and all the zone displays show the power
level again.
5.4.2 Selecng a Power Level for
the Zone
Once the zone is selected, the power level can be
selected by touching the [SLIDER]. Each posion
over the slider surface corresponds to a power level.
The power level selecon is done by sliding the
nger or placing the nger on a specic posion of
the slider surface. When the power level is changed
a slider sound sounds.

There are 11 selectable power levels, from 0 to 9
and P (booster) level. If the booster power level is
selected the zone display will show a P.
The power level set will be shown by displays
[ZONE_n_DISPLAY] and the [BARGRAPH_LED]. The
[SLIDER] keys will be locked if:
− No zone is selected, or
− The key lock is acvated, or
− There is any zone or appliance error.

5.4.3 Fast Boil (Booster) Funcon
The zone will work at booster power level for 10
minutes. Aer these 10 minutes a beep sounds and
the zone will return to level “9”.
5.4.4 Bridge Funcon
Two zones can be joined by the bridge funcon to
heat longer pans and griddles.
To enable the bridge funcon, rst touch the
selecon key of one of the bridgeable zones and
then touch the other bridgeable zone selecon key.
The power level of the rst selected zone is copied
to the second selected zone. The bridge LEDs begin
blinking unl a power level is selected. The funcon
is not acvated if the second selected zone power
level is 0.

To set the power level of the bridge heater touch
the slider. When the zones are operated as one
bridge heater, the selectable power levels are from
1 to 9, it is not possible to select booster power
level. When the zones are operated individually, the
selectable power levels are from 1 to P.

To disable the bridge funcon select any of the
bridged zones—while the bridge LEDs are blinking,
touch any of the bridged zone selecon keys again.

5.5 Seng Hob ECO Power Limit
The hobs maximum power limit is 7200W. This
power limit can be reduced by the user to 2800W,
3500W or 6000W. The sequence to set a new how
power limit is:
• During the rst 30 seconds aer plugging in the
appliance.
• The keylock has to be unlocked and all zones
o.
• Press at the same me [+TIMER_KEY], [-
TIMER_KEY] and [)N_OFF_KEY].

• Once this is done, a beep sounds and the actual
hob power limit will be shown in the zone
displays.

5.5.1 For Selecng a New Power
Limit
With the [KEYLOCK_KEY], the power limit is
increased. The selectable powers are 2800W,
3500W, 6000W or 7200W. When the power is
7200W, if the [KEYLOCK_KEY] is touched the power
changes to 2800W.

Limit
Press at the same me [+TIMER_KEY], [-TIMER_KEY]
and [ON_OFF_KEY].

Once this is done, new hob power limit is recorded
and there is a system reset.
5.5.3 To Finish Without Recording
Changes
If during 60 seconds there is no acon, changes are
not recorded and there is a system reset.
5.6 Power Management for
ECO Hob
For ECO power hobs, each me the user tries to
increase the power, the total power level of the hob
is calculated. If this total power level is greater than
the hob power limit the power increase is not
allowed. An error beep sounds and the heater
display shows an ‘r’ for 3 seconds.

5.7 Key Lock
Touching the [KEYLOCK_KEY] for 1 second, the key
lock funcon is acvated and deacvated. If the LED
associated to the key lock is on, the keyboard is
locked. The locking funcon can be acvated when
the zones are on or when the hob is o. If the hob is
on, the key lock funcon locks all the keys except
the general [ON_OFF_KEY] and the [KEYLOCK_KEY].
When the hob is o, the key lock funcon locks all
the keys, including the general [ON_OFF_KEY].
The key lock is always acvated at the start up of
the control.

5.8 Protecon from Accidental
Acvaon of Keys
If any key/s is maintained pressed for more than 10
seconds, the hob is switched o automacally. A
warning beep sounds every 10 seconds, while the
key/s is/are acvated.
5.9 Zone Auto Switch O in a
Specic Time
Aer maximum me of operaon at the same
power level (see the table) the zone is switched o
automacally.
The zone auto switch o me is automacally reset
when the power level is changed. If the power level
is not changed during a pre-set me, the
corresponding zone turns o automacally. The
maximum me a zone can stay on, depends on the
selected power level.

5.10 Stop & Go Funcon
The Stop & Go funcon allows temporary pausing of
the cooking process, allowing the users to answer
the door or the telephone without worrying that the
water is boiling over. This funcon is also useful to
clean the user interface surface without changing
the cooking set up.
The stop funcon is acvated if the [STOP_GO_KEY]
is touched for more than 120 milliseconds:
• [STOP_GO_LED] blinks, a [STOP&GO_SOUND]
sounds and the hob is stopped.

• The zones actual power seng is stored and all
the acve zones power levels are set to 0.
• The zones auto switch o me is stopped.
• All the mers running count downs are stopped.
• All the keys are locked except [STOP_GO_KEY]
and [ON_OFF_KEY].
• The stop & go LED is blinking and all the zone
displays show the stop sequence.
Stop sequence: All the zone displays show a line
growing sequenally unl a round is lled, when the
round is lled the round segments are switched o
sequenally. When the last segment is going to be
switched o the cycle begins again. The round
segments are switched on/o anclockwise. A new
segment is switched on/o every T_320ms.

To deacvate the stop funcon:
• If the [STOP_GO_KEY] is touched for more than
120ms a beep sounds and the zones power
level is restored, or
• If the hob is stopped for more than 10 minutes
the hob is switched o automacally.
5.11 Operang the Timer
It is possible for the user to set a switch o me for
all zones at any power level. The mer value can be
selected between 1 and 99 minutes. The mers last
minute will be displayed in seconds.
The [+TIMER] and [-TIMER] keys will be locked if:
• The hob is o, or
• The key lock is acvated (KEYLOCK LED on).
Selecng a Timer for a Zone
Once a zone is selected, a switch o me can be
selected by touching the [+TIMER] or [-TIMER].
When the mer is o, it is acvated by pressing the
mer keys. A beep sounds, the mer display shows
“00” blinking and the med zone LED blinks.

The [+TIMER_KEY] or [-TIMER_KEY] will be locked if:
• No zone is selected, or
• The key lock is acvated, or
• There is any error.
Selecng the Time
When the mer is waing for a me selecon the
mer display blinks. The mer value can be selected
between 1 and 99minutes by touching the [+TIMER]
or [-TIMER] keys.

If the [+TIMER] or [-TIMER} is held down, the speed
is increased automacally or the increases are done
increments of 5. This makes it possible to reach the
desired me more quickly.
If the me is not selected in 10 seconds, the mer is
switched o.
If the selected mes is “00” aer 10 seconds the
mer is switched o.
Starng Timer Countdown
The countdown starts 5 seconds aer the last
operaon of the [+TIMER] or [-TIMER] key. A beep
sounds and the mer display stops blinking and the
zone LED also stops blinking if any power is selected.
The last minute will be displayed in seconds.
Changing the Time
When the mer is in countdown the user can
change the me at any me by selecng the zone
and touching the [+TIMER] or [–TIMER] key, the
countdown stops and the mer changes to me
selecon status.

When the me set on the mer has run out, the
med zone is switched o, the mer display and the
med zone LED starts blinking and a mer alarm
beep sounds for one minute.
The mer alarm can be cancelled by the user at
anyme, by pressing any key of the touch control.
Switching O the Timer
To cancel operaon of the mer, select the me
value of “00” using the [-TIMER) key or pressing the
[+TIMER] and [-TIMER] keys at the same me.
More than one Zone Timed
When more than one zone is med the mer
displays will show the mer that is going to elapse
rst. The acve zone LED will be blinking.

Auto Key-lock
When all the zones are not powered, and one zone
is at zero power level, the key lock funcon is
acvated aer 1 minute.
5.12 Displaying Soware Versions
The soware version of the user interface and the
zone power control can be displayed by the user
interface. To show the soware versions:
• During the rst 30 seconds aer plugging in the
appliance.
• The touch has to be unlocked and all zones are
o.
• Press at the same me, the [-TIMER], [+TIMER]
and the [KEYLOCK_KEY].

A beep sounds and the rear zone displays show the
soware version. Soware versions are composed
of two parts: funconal part and safety part. To
disnguish between the two parts, when safety
version is shown the dots of the displays are
acvated.

To change between the UI versions and the HPC
versions press the [KEYLOCK_KEY].

The funcon is disabled 10 seconds aer or unl any
key or combinaon of keys (except the
[KEYLOCK_KEY] is touched. When the message
disappears a beep sounds and the user can connue
with normal operaon.
5.13 Programming
The user can change the default sengs for the
slider sound and the mer increment value. Aer
the programming mode has been called up, Ti
(Timer) or SL (Slider) will appear in the mer display,
and 1 (enabled) will appear in the rst zone display.
To call up the programming mode:
• During the rst 30 seconds aer plugging in the
appliance.
• The keypad has to be unlocked and all zones o.
• Press at the same me, the [+TIMER], [-TIMER]
and the [STOP_GO_KEY].

Once this is done, the new sengs are saved and
there is a system reset.
To not save sengs:

6. Installaon
6.1 Safety Instrucons
• Before beginning any cleaning or maintenance
operaon, unplug the appliance or switch o
the electric mains.
• The duct of the extractor must not be
connected to a duct used for the discharge of
fumes coming from appliances with non-
electrical energy (e.g. gas heaters or boilers) or
in ducts for the circulaon of hot air.
• If the duct version of the extractor is used it is
advisable to venlate the room during use.
• Check that the mains voltage is equal to that
shown on the label placed inside the extractor.
• Ensure that the electrical supply is correctly
earthed.
• If the wire connecng to the mains is damaged
it must be replaced by the manufacturers
technical service e or in any case by a properly
qualied electrician.
• These operang and installaon instrucons
must be read in full before you assemble the
device and start to use it.
• Make sure that the room is suciently

mode, e.g. through an open window.
• Inducon hobs generate a high frequency
electromagnec eld in the area of the cooking
zones. The cooking zones may aect
pacemakers, hearing aids or metal implants
negavely or disturb their funcon when in
close proximity. A reduced funcon of the
pacemaker is unlikely. If in doubt, contact the
manufacturer of your medical device or your
doctor.
• Do not make any changes to the appliance.
• Whenever possible, clean the hob aer every
use.
• Clean the hob only aer it has cooled down.
• When cleaning, only use non-abrasive cleaning
agents to prevent scratching and abrasion on
the surface.
• Always li the cookware to prevent scratching
and abrasion on the surface.
• Never leave oil or fat to heat up unaended.
• Never exnguish oil and fat res with water.
• Suocate the re, for example by using a lid.
• Do not place any ammable liquids in the
vicinity of the hob.
• If there are any cracks, ssures or fractures in
the glass ceramic, switch the device o
immediately.
• Do not touch the hot hob.
• Keep children away from the hot hob unless
they are under constant supervision.
• Do not use the hob surface as a kitchen
worktop.
• Do not use any hard and pointed objects when
working on the hob.
• Clean or replace the lters at regular intervals.
• Never use the hob extractor without a grease
lter.
• Check the appliance for visible damages before
installing it.
• Do not install a damaged appliance.
• A damaged appliance may put your safety at
risk.
• Dispose of packaging correctly and promptly.
• Only use original spare parts when carrying out
repairs.
6.2 Packaging
The extractor is packaged as the photos and if it is to
be returned (for any problem) it must be returned in
the same way.

The extractor comes with a at motor which
aaches to the boom of the hob.
Place the hob in the rectangular cut out in the
worktop. We recommend using silicone under the
edge of the hob to seal the product to the worktop.
7. Ducng
When the extractor is used in the duct version it
must be connected to an outside wall vent.
Ø150mm round or 220x90mm rectangular ducng
must be used. Ducng with a smaller diameter
could cause airow issues and invalidate the
warranty.
7.1 Ducng Assembly
In a 600mm cupboard the back panel will require a
cut-out for the ducng.

7.2 Informaon on Exhaust Air
Ducng
The planning and design of extractor ducng has a
signicant inuence on the airow rate and the
noise level of the cooker hood. This is because each
component in the ducng introduces counter
pressure (friconal resistance), which leads to a
reducon in the airow rate in the cooker hood and
increases the level of noise.
The friconal resistance within the ducng is
dependent on a number of factors:
− Cross secon of the exhaust air ducng.
− Length of the exhaust air ducng.
− Bends/curves in the exhaust air ducng.
− Material and type of ducng (the material
must also be approved for use with a
cooker hood in accordance with re
prevenon regulaons).
7.3 Cross Secon of the Exhaust
Air Ducng
The cross secon of the ducng must be adapted to
match the airow rate of the cooker hood and the
ducng roung (length and design). A cross secon
that is too narrow will result in signicant losses in
the airow rate and increase noise level. The
venlaon performance of the cooker hood is the
key factor for determining the ducng cross secon.
The more powerful the venlaon performance, the
greater the ducng cross secon must be.
As a rule, the larger the cross secon, the less
counter pressure is created in the ducng.
The following exhaust air ducng specicaons
serve as a guide:
Ø125mm for a venlaon performance of >400m3/h
Ø150mm for a venlaon performance of <400m3/h
Any reducon in the cross secon of the ducng
must be avoided.
This would give rise to turbulence, which would
generate a high amount of counter pressure. The
more rapid airow speed associated with a
narrowing in the cross secon will also cause the
noise level to increase.
TIP
It is only possible to achieve a high airow volume
and low noise level by using extractor ducng that
provides low resistance. Always use where possible
rigid ducng equivalent to 150mm.

Smooth-walled plasc rigid ducts are the most
favourable form of ducng from a technical airow
perspecve and are parcularly suitable for straight
duct routes/runs. These should be used if the
structural requirements are met.
Flexible aluminium ducng (alu-ux) also achieves
reasonably good ow values when elongated. It is
more exible than rigid plasc ducng and adapts
well to diering structural condions.
Unnecessary bends should, however, be avoided.
Corrugated and spiral ducts are the least favourable
from a technical airow perspecve. The wave-like
surface results in a large amount of turbulence, even
if the ducng is pulled taut. When the lm is heated
by the extracted air, it stretches. This leads to even
greater turbulence and the apping lm generates
noise. This type of ducng is prone to crushing
which will create a poor air ow.
A disncon is made between round and at
channels. Flat channels are oen used in pracce for
both visual and technical reasons. It used to be
believed that the ow condions in at channels
were less favourable. However, this no longer
applies as a general rule. Recent developments in
at channels can provide similar or beer airow
results than a round channel.
They are characterised by the following features:
The inner cross secon of the at channel must
correspond at least to the cross secon of the
exhaust air socket in the cooker hood. The surface
area should therefore equate to the cross secon of
150mm pipe if the exhaust air outlet has a diameter
of 150mm.
The width-to-height rao must be opmised.
The higher the at channel, the more favourable its
airow qualies (e.g. 90 x 220mm).
7.4 Exhaust Material, Ducng & Shape

7.5 Length of the Exhaust Ducng,
Curves & Bends
As the length of the exhaust ducng increases, the
counter pressure (duct resistance) increases and the
airow rate decreases.
Bends and curves are problemac as they present
deecon surfaces that dam the air steam and
generate turbulence. This causes an increase in
counter pressure. Bends and curves in the ducng
should therefore be kept to a minimum. If bends
and curves are required for structural reasons,
bends with largest possible radius are advisable. The
smaller the bend radius, the greater the counter
pressure. Corners at right angles should also be
avoided if possible because these lead to even
greater pressure losses and therefore a loss of
performance.
TIP
The following rule of thumb applies for good duct
roung:
The distance between two bends should be at least
1m, although 1.5m is beer.
