screws (Item 2). From inside of case, insert screws
through case and into holes in bottom rail.
Slide left-hand curtain assembly (Item 4) into left ends of
top and bottom rails. Repeat for right-hand curtain
assembly (Item 5) on right ends of top and bottom rails.
Fasten curtain retainer strips to sides of outer case with 6
or 8 (depending on model) ¼" screws (Item 6).

Step 4 – Apply Window Sill Gasket
Raise indoor sash. Measure width of window sash,
including portion inside window track. Cut window sill
gasket (Item 7) to length and apply to rear of window sill
or to wood strip added to sill in Step 3. For mobile home
window, apply gasket to rear of window frame front lip.
Measure width between window moldings to ensure
Instant Mount will fit in window frame. Instant Mount
models are designed for windows 28" to 42" wide.
Instant Mount Kit supplied with unit is designed for
mounting in most double-hung windows without storm
windows. To accommodate unit in window frame with
storm window, modify sill by adding wood strips to inner
and outer sills. This raises unit and eliminates interfer-
ence of storm window frame.
Storm window installation
If storm window frame does not allow adequate clearance
below sill (¼" required), remove storm window frame or
create clearance by adding a wood strip (at least 1-½"
wide) along entire width of sill. Fasten wood strip to sill
with at least 3 countersunk wood screws (not supplied
with kit) to provide smooth surface for mounting air
conditioner.
Mobile home window installation
Add wood strip (at least 1-½" wide) along entire width of
window sill. Thickness of wood strip should match height
of front lip of window frame. Fasten wood strip to sill with
at least 3 countersunk wood screws (not supplied with kit)
to provide smooth surface for mounting air conditioner.
Step 5 – Install Outer Case in Window
Place outer case in window. Lower sash until it rests
behind front flange of top rail. Bottom rail must rest
behind window sill and against window sill gasket
(Item 7).

Secure outer case to window sill by installing two 7/8"
countersunk screws (Item 8). Use screw holes located in
front bottom edge of outer case. To make screws easier
to drive, drill 1/8" pilot holes in window sill.
Screw 4" adjusting foot (Item 9) into each outside support
(Item 10) as far as it will go. (Adjustments can be made
more easily after unit is in place.) Do not attempt to
straighten outside supports or structural integrity of
support may be compromised.
Install outside supports on under side of outer case using
one ½" screw (Item 11) for each support. Mount outside
supports as close to sill as possible. Insert back tab into
large holes along both sides of outer case. Align hole in
front tab of support angle with small hole in outer case.
Drive screw into front tab.
When installing outside support brackets on solid bottom
outer case, tap screw holes in support brackets before
attaching brackets to sides of outer case.

Installation assistance may be necessary. While one
person reaches around collapsed curtain assembly to
hold support bracket in place beneath case, other person
drives ½" screw from inside of case.

Step 7 – Secure Side Curtains
For proper seal, pull each expandable side curtain out
and up until it fits tightly against window frame. Using hole
in top of each curtain for guide, mark hole location and
drill 1/8" pilot hole into window sash. Secure each curtain
to sash using 5/8" Phillips head screws (Item 14).
If you do not want to make holes in window sash, let
downward force of window hold side curtains in place.
However, if curtains do not stay in place, air seal will not
be good and electricity usage will rise.
Step 6 – Install Sash Bracket
Install sash bracket (Item 12) on top of indoor window
sash with 7/8" sash bracket screw (Item 13) to prevent
raising of window from outside. Screw anchor directly into
side of window frame. For hard wood or metal window
frames, 1/8" pilot hole may be needed to start screw.
CAUTION
!
To prevent damage to window locking or lifting
mechanisms from improperly placed sash bracket
screw, inspect window carefully before drilling or
installing screw in sash.
Turn each adjusting foot until it begins to contact wall.
Back of outer case should be ¼" to 3/8" lower than front—
at ¼ bubble on carpenter’s level.
CAUTION
!
To avoid damage to outside wall of house, especially
if wall is weak or outside supports sit between studs
in wall, place wood blocks (not provided) between
wall and each adjusting foot. Place wood blocks
before adjusting outer case slope.

Step 8 – Install Window Seal Strip
Cut window seal strip (Item 15) to width of windows. Stuff
window seal strip between outdoor window glass and top
of indoor sash for tight seal to keep out heat and insects.
NOTE:
Air conditioner uses a system where water removed from
indoor air (condensate) is channeled to outdoor side of
unit. Sound of water heard during normal operation
comes from outdoor fan blade “slinger ring” that dips into
water and slings it onto outdoor coil. Water quickly
evaporates on the warm surface and improves air condi-
tioner efficiency.
Under normal conditions, unit can evaporate water as fast
as it is removed from indoor air. In very humid conditions,
however, excess water may drip off chassis. To avoid
dripping, install condensate drain cup (included with unit).
Insert condensate drain cup through 5/8" hole in rear
center of outer case bottom. Then place ½" diameter
hose or tube on bottom spout of drain cup.
Step 9 – Return Chassis to Outer Case
Because window sash helps keep unit in window, make
sure window sash contacts outer case before reinstalling
chassis.
With assistance, replace chassis in outer case. Install
basepan clip (Item 16) into slot in outer case bottom and
secure to basepan using 3/8" hex head screw (Item 2).
Replace front panel, air filter, and grille.
CAUTION
!
To avoid risk of personal injury or product damage
due to the weight of this device and sharp edges that
may be exposed:
•Have someone help install unit. Air conditioner
weighs between 80 and 150 pounds (depending

outer case following instructions under Step 2. Remove
window seal strip and sash bracket screw. Remove small
wood screws from side curtains and fold curtains toward
case. Remove outside supports from bottom of outer
case. Remove anchor screws from window sill. Because
window sash helps hold unit in window frame, carefully
raise window sash and lift case out of window frame.

Abide by state and local codes when disposing of air
conditioningunit.
Step 10 – Recheck Installation
To be sure you have correctly installed your Amana
Room Air Conditioner, review all steps and ensure all
parts are securely fastened in window as instructions
show.
Tight seal is essential to efficient operation of unit.
Settling of your home may cause warping or bowing of
windows. To fill holes or cracks and ensure a tight seal,
use suitable plastic sealer available at hardware stores.
To begin operation, plug unit into electrical outlet as
recommended in Use & Care Manual.
Read Use & Care Manual thoroughly to become familiar
with operation of room air conditioner.
