Welcome to Ambient Devices
Ambient Devices products are designed to keep you informed with just a
glance. Our products create a seamless link between you and the information
you care about.
Our products operate on one of the largest and most reliable wireless networks
in the United States. Our long-range signals are relayed by over 8,000 towers
to reach more than 90% of American households. Our technology is dierent
than cellular networks or wi, so our products often work in places where other
wireless products don’t.
Your Forecaster receives updates several times per hour to give you up-to-date
weather information, whenever you need it.
Right out of the box, your device will provide weather information for 150
locations in the United States. Just plug it in, wait for your rst update, and you’re
all set! Use the LOCATION button to select which forecast you want to view.

Place your Forecaster in an area where it receives a good signal. Check the
SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATOR on the front of the device. If your Forecaster is
only getting one bar, move it closer to a window or try going upstairs. Two or
three bars of signal strength will ensure your Forecaster stays up to date and
will improve battery life.
Sit back and relax! Your Forecaster will automatically begin listening for a signal.
Please note it could take up to four hours for weather data to appear. This is a
good time to browse through the available forecast locations. If you’ve waited
without receiving weather data, please see the Troubleshooting Guide at the
end of this booklet.
Get to know your 5-Day / 7-Day Forecaster
Receiving your rst update
Your Forecaster operates on AC Power using the included adapter. The Forecaster
can also run on batteries. The 5-Day forecaster runs on 4 AAA Batteries. The 7-Day
Forecaster runs on 4 AA Batteries. When running only on batter power, the back-
light function of the Forecaster is unavailable.
If you’re using AC power, simply plug your Forecaster into the wall. To use battery
power, open the BATTERY COMPARTMENT COVER and insert four AA batteries
(not included). Conrm that the batteries’ (+) and (–) indicators are properly
aligned inside the compartment. While the unit is plugged in, the batteries will
be used for backup only.

if you change the temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius. To change the units
of measurement for wind speed alone, press the F/C button and the lower
LOCATION button simultaneously.

desired location appears on the display. Locations are organized alphabetically
by state, and you can move through the list by pressing the LOCATION buttons
up and down, respectively.

Troubleshooting Guide
My Forecaster’s display is totally blank
Conrm that the batteries are properly aligned with the (+) and (–) terminals,
and be sure to use fresh batteries. If you’re using the AC adapter, make sure it’s
plugged into a live outlet.
I turned it on and now the screen just shows little dashes
This happens until your Forecaster receives its rst update from our network.
If this continues for more than four hours, try moving your Forecaster to a
location with better signal coverage, such as near a window or upstairs.
Only part of the screen is showing any data
We send data to your Forecaster in discrete parts, so if your Forecaster is only
showing data on one part of the screen, or only some of the 150 cities, it’s likely
that the next update your Forecaster receives will remedy this situation.
If you’ve waited four hours or more without seeing the rest of the screen
display data, check the signal indicator to ensure that your Forecaster is able
to receive updates.
I don’t see any bars next to the signal strength indicator
This means that your Forecaster is in an area with poor reception. Try moving
your Forecaster closer to a window or upstairs. If your Forecaster still doesn’t get
any bars of signal, go to http://map.myambient.com to verify that your location
receives signal coverage.
The time on my clock is o by a number of hours
Press the TIMEZONE button on the back of the device until the proper time
appears. Your Forecaster should maintain accurate time from the network
without further adjustments.

16
17
My clock’s time is correct, but it still shows an incorrect or outdated forecast
This is almost always the result of “lagging,”a condition that occurs when your
device is not receiving a consistently strong signal. If you notice this happening,
try changing the location where you keep the Forecaster. We recommend that
you keep it somewhere where it shows at least two bars of signal strength.
The temperature outside is dierent from what the device is saying
The “Outside”temperature isn’t a reading from a local sensor…it’s a signal we
send using forecast information from Accuweather.com. Consequently, the
current outside temperature may vary from the meteorological information
we receive for your location.
Will this device work outside of the United States?
Sorry, at present we only support Ambient Devices products within the
United States.
What can I do to improve battery life?
Your Forecaster is designed to use very little battery power when it receives
a strong signal. If it’s in an area with inconsistent or weak signal, it will work
harder to make sure it updates properly. The best thing you can do is ensure
it’s in an area where it receives three bars of signal strength.

NO GUARANTEE
Like all wireless products, performance can vary based on location and environmental
conditions. Coverage areas are approximate. Coverage areas within a specied zone may
include locations with limited or no coverage, particularly near boundaries or in remote areas.
Existing signal coverage does not guarantee future coverage on a device. Actual coverage
may vary. Coverage can periodically be aected by signal availability and strength due to
several factors, which include (but are not limited to): network problems and changes, location
within a building, trac volume, service outages, technical limitations, signal strength, terrain,
structures, foliage, weather, atmospheric, geographic, topographic and other environmental
or external conditions that may interfere with actual service, quality and availability, including
the ability to make, receive and maintain signals. Although service is available in most US
metropolitan cities, service is not guaranteed in all areas. User agrees not to hold Ambient
Devices liable should there be a temporary or permanent loss of coverage. When service is
not available, the device will not operate.
