Introducing theAMD General Examination Camera
The AMD General Examination Camera can be used during video-conferencing to
examine objects in fine detail. This hand-held camera is compact and lightweight, with all
the controls located on the camera; no auxiliary remote control is required. The camera is
multi-purpose, and can be used for many applications, including dermatology and
dentistry. The small size and built-in controls allow for unobtrusive examination of various
areas of the body.

Using theCamera
Setting Up theCamera
If the Examination Camera is not set up:
1.
If necessary, changethecamera lens.
For moreinformation, refer to “Sorting
Out theDetails”.
2.
On theback of theExamination
Camera, makesurethat theDC/VBS
cable is secure.
3.
Plug thefollowing threecablesinto the
AMD junction box:
a)
DC/VBScable
b)
RCAvideo cable
c)
Power adapter cord
4.
Plug theRCAconnector of thevideo
cableinto theExternal Video Input on
the video-conference system.
5.
Plug thepower adapter cord into an
outlet. The AMD-2500 must only be
used with thepower supply that ships
with theproduct to ensurelabelled
safety standardsaremet. Thispower
supply ismanufactured by Jerome

Move the Power switch to ON, move
theLight switch to ON and verify that
thegreen power indicator light isON.
7.
The AMD-2500 should beinspected for
proper operation daily. TheAMD-2500
should becleaned/ disinfected after
each patient contact (at a minimum of
daily).

Displaying an Object
1.
Every timetheExamination Camera is
turned ON, adjust theWhiteBalance.
a)
Turn ON theRing-Light, using the
switch on theback of thecamera.
b)
Focusthecamera on a whitesheet
of paper. Fill the screen completely
with theimageof thewhitesheet.
c)
Press the WB button on theback of
the camera for five seconds.
Thecolorsareautomatically
rebalanced. For moreinformation
about WhiteBalance, refer to
“Sorting Out theDetails”.

Aim theExamination Camera at the
object.
3.
If necessary, adjust theimageusing the
imagecontrol buttonson thetop of the
Examination Camera, asdescribed in
“Sorting Out theDetails”.
4.
When you arefinished using the
Examination Camera:
a)
Turn theExamination Camera
Power OFF and turn theLight OFF.

Adjusting theImage
If theimageisaffected by glare...
If the image is affected by glare caused by
light reflection off of the object, or if there is
not much definition in the image:
1.
Turn ON theRing-Light using theswitch
on theback of theExamination
Camera.
2.
Press the REF button on thetop of the
Examination Camera to togglethe
Reflection modeON and OFF.
If theimageistoo small...
1.
Center theobject in theimagewindow.
2.
Zoom in by pressing theTbutton on
thetop of theExamination Camera.

Notes:
If theimageisshaky...
It may be difficult to maintain a still image
on the screen due to the movement of the
camera. To capture a freeze-frame of the
image on the screen:
1.
Press the FRE button on thetop of the
Examination Camera.
To unfreezetheimageshown on the
monitor, presstheFRE button again.
If theimageistoo dark...
1.
Turn ON theRing-Light using theswitch
on theback of theExamination
Camera.
2.
If theimageisstill too dark, makesure
that theExamination Camera is using
Automatic IrisControl.
Theirisindicator light on theback of
theExamination Camera should be
OFF.
3.
If theimageisstill too dark:
a)
Press the IRIS SW button to disable
Automatic IrisControl.
Theirisindicator light on theback
of theExamination Camera should
come ON.
b)
Turn theManual Irisdial
counter-clockwiseto brighten the
image.

1.
Turn OFF the Ring-Light using theswitch
on theback of theExamination
Camera.
2.
If theimageisstill too pale, make sure
that theExamination Camera is using
Automatic IrisControl.
Theirisindicator light on theback of
theExamination Camera should be
OFF.
3.
If theimageisstill too pale:
a)
Press the IRIS SW button to disable
Automatic IrisControl.
Theirisindicator light on theback
of theExamination Camera should
come ON.
b)
Turn theManual Irisdial clockwise
to darken theimage.

MovetheFocusswitch to MFto
enableManual FocusControl.
b)
To manually focusdistant objects,
press the FAR button. To manually
focus close objects, press the NEAR
button.

Freeze Button
togglestheFreezemodeON and OFF. TheFreeze mode freezes the
imageon themonitor. For theprocedurefor using thisbutton, refer
to the“If theimageisshaky…” section.
WideButton
zoomsout from objects. For theprocedurefor using thisbutton,
refer to the “ If the image is too big…” section..
50X Lens(provided)
Allowsfor higher magnification viewing of
image. Can beused with AMD-2505 Disposable
Tip Cover to prevent contamination
Tele Button
zoomsin on objects. For

Reflection Button
toggles the Reflection
modeON and OFF. The
Reflection mode reduces
glarecaused by light

Connectorsand Controls
APower Indicator isilluminated (thegreen light isON) when thecamera isON.
BPower Switch turnsthecamera ON and OFF. Thecamera should beturned OFFwhen it isnot being used.
CLight Switch turnsthefluorescent ring-light on thefront of thecamera ON and OFF. For theprocedurefor
using thisswitch, refer to thesections“If theimageistoo dark…” and “If theimageistoo pale…”.
DWhiteBalanceButton automatically rebalancestheprimary video colours(red, blue, and green) to
compensatefor different lighting types. If your imagehasa reddish or bluish tint, you should correct the
WhiteBalance. For theprocedurefor using thisbutton, refer to “Displaying an object”.
EFocus Switch switches between Automatic Focus (AF) and Manual Focus(MF). When set to Automatic
Focus, thecamera focuseson objectsautomatically. When set to Manual Focus, theFAR and NEAR
buttonsareused to focuson objects.
FFAR manually focusesthecamera on distant objects.
GNEAR manually focusesthecamera on closeobjects.
HManual IrisIndicator isilluminated (theyellow light isON) when Manual IrisControl isON.
IIrisButton switchesbetween AutomaticIrisControl and Manual IrisControl. When set to Automatic
Control, thecamera automatically controlstheiris. When set to Manual Control, theManual IrisDial is
used to control theiris.
JManual IrisDial manually controlstheiris, allowing you to adjust thebrightnessor darknessof the
image. For theprocedurefor using thisdial, refer to sections“If theimageistoo dark…” and “If the
imageistoo pale…”.
KY/ C Port isused with a video-conference system requiring an S-VHSinput. (optional cablerequired)
LDC/ VBS Port suppliespower to thecamera and sendsvideo signalsfrom thecamera to thevideo-
conferencesystem. For connection details, refer to “CableConnections” on thenext page.
M Serial number of product: Uniquenumber identification of product.

CableConnections
The AMD Examination Camera is attached with a DC/VBScable to a junction box.
There are two connections from the junction box; the RCA cable plugs into the External Video
Input of the video-conference system, and the power cord plugs into an outlet.
For details on hooking up the cables, refer to the procedure outlined in “Setting up the
Camera”.

Zoom Lens
The AMD General Examination Camera has two interchangeable lenses:
The Protective Lens providesprotection for the
camera lensand thering-light.
The 50x Zoom Lensprovides50x magnification for a
closer look at objects. Thislenshasa flexiblerod that
indicatesthefocal length of thelens. When you use
thislens, placethetip of therod gently on theobject
to beviewed, and thecamera will beat thecorrect
viewing distance.
The AMD-2505 DisposableTip Coverscan beused to
protect theflexibletip of the50x lensagainst
contamination. Thesetip coversshould bereplaced/
disposed of properly aslocal rulesgovern after each
patient contact. Thesetip covers“roll out” condom-
stylefor installation.
* Local rulesmay requirethesecontaminated tip
coversto betreated ashazardouswaste.
To remove a lens:
1.
Placeyour fingersin theindent on thelower left corner
of the lens.
2.
Pop the lens off.
To attach a lens:
1.
Position thelenson thefront of thecamera.
2. Snap the lens in place.
