Introduction
The smartJack door controller is designed for a quick andeasy setup. The Program
Logic Controller is programmed and ready to go except for a few entries to finalize the
functions of the controller.
The smartJack door controller isa intelegent device that
requires some initial parameters to be entered bythe installation
technician. The controller does come with default settings that
can be used asguidelines but this controller ismade for just
about any size door soeach installation isdifferent.
The basic operation of the door is tostart from a closed position,
once a open command is given the door ramps up to full speed,
decelerated toa slow speed then comes to a stop inthe open
position, this isa smooth motion. Once a close command it
given, the door ramps up to full speed then decelerates to a slow speed and comes to
a stop once the Home limit is reached (I7.)
This manual also explains the functions of all inputs and outputs on the PLC, types of
contacts used, specific actions and jumpers that must be removed for additional
devices etc.
It is suggested that the entire manual be read and understood prior to initiating the
setup. There are some precautions and important notes that need to be followed as
directed. If this procedure is adhered to, the set up should take less than thirty
minutes.
The first time the electrical power issupplied to the
smartJack LS controller the Main Screen will be displayed.

I4 Safety Edge – N.O. A closing door will stop and reopen if Safety Edge goes active. An open
door will not close while Safety Edge is active.
I5 Photo Eye – N.C. A closing door will stop and reopen if Photo Eye goes active. An open
door will not close while Photo Eye is active.
I6 Loop Detector – N.O. If the door is closing when the loop is activated, it will automatically
reopen. If the loop is active when the door is open, it will not close. May also initiate
automatic closing of the door. (See Door Operation Setup)
I7 Auxiliary Open – N.O. Similar to Open Pushbutton (I1), except that it only functions on Auto
mode. The Auto close timers function may operate differently dependant on how it’s
setup. It may require an input from the Loop Detector (I6) to initiate the timer.
I8 Radio Control – N.O. similar to Auxiliary Open (I7), except that it also functions in Hand
mode. During Hand mode each momentary contact toggles on or off the open and closing
command.
I9 Hand/Auto – No default state. When this input is closed, Auto mode is activated. When
the input is open, Hand mode is activated, this disables the Auto Close Timer and the
Auxiliary Open input.
I10 Home Sensor – N.O. Detects when the door is fully closed, stops a closing door and zero’s
out the encoder actual position.
I11Encoder Channel A - N.O. This is a pulse that’s generated from the encoder when in

Setup Menu Functions
Please note that when in the setup menu or in Hand Mode, the door controller reverts to
constant pressure open and close. Also the controller WILL NOT stop when it reaches the
open set point in this mode!!!! Also make sure to start this function when the door is in the
fully closed position and the home sensor is activated (I7.)
When setup mode is entered the door will move slowly in the direction that its commanded to
move. The purpose of this mode is move the door to the desired full open, open deceleration
and close deceleration points and log the numbers so they can be entered the the
corresponding fields.
Please note the following when in setup menu:
•Press the “Ent” button, then key in the desired set point then press the “Ent again..
•PLEASE NOTE, AT ANY TIME “F2” CAN BE PRESSED TO GET TO THE MAIN MENU.
•To get to the next screen, just press the “White” arrow next to the “Next” Icon.
Full Open – Move the door to the desired full open position then look at
the value of the encoder. Enter that value into this field keeping in
mind that the door will not stop at this value, it will over travel so it’s a
good idea to subtract approximately 100 counts to allow for this.
Open Slow Down – Move the door to the desired full open position
then look at the value of the encoder. Enter that value into this field.
Press the “Ent” button, then key in the desired set point then press the
“Ent again..

Close Slow Down – Move the door to the desired close slow position
then look at the value of the encoder. Enter that value into the set
point field. Press the “Ent” button, then key in the desired set point
then press the “Ent again..
Safety Edge Slow Down – This is a smart controller, so when a safety
edge is triggered it logs the position at which it occurred. On the next
close cycle it will slow down at the value the collision occurred plus and
minus this set point value. (example: If you enter a value of 300 in this
field and the collision occurred at 3000, the door would move at its
normal speed closed until it reaches 3300 and continue to move slow
until it reaches 2700n then speed up to full speed.)
Auto Close Timer – Here is where the value that the controller waits
after the door is open before it closes automatically is entered. Please
note that the Auto Close Timer is only active when selected to Auto.
Auto Close Timer Program – There are three sub-programs for the Auto
Close timer. This can be setup for program 0, 1 or 2 and their functions
are below:
Program 0 = This disables the auto close timer.
Program 1 = The auto close timer will commence timing when the door
reaches the fully open limit and “Auto” is selected.
Program 2 = The auto close timer will only commence timing when the door reaches the fully
open limit and “Auto” is selected, input 6 is triggered and cleared and the safeties are not
being triggered.
Pushbutton Program – There are two program selections that can
be made, see below.
Program 0 = When selected this ignores inputs 1, 2 and 3 (Open,
Close and Stop.)
Program 1 =Inputs 1 and 2 are active and service as open and close signals respectively.

Mid Stop Program – There are two program selections that can be made, see below.
Program 0 = Disables the Mid Stop Function
Program 1 =Enables the Mid Stop function. This will open and close the
door to the preset values that are set in the Mid Stop Slow Down and
The Mid Stop, Stop set points. If the door is stopped at the mid stop
position and it’s given an open command by input 1 (Open Pushbutton)
the door will full open.
Mid Stop, Stop - Move the door to the desired full open position then
look at the value of the encoder. Enter that value into this field keeping
in mind that the door will not stop at this value, it will over travel so it’s a
good idea to subtract approximately 100 counts to allow for this.
Mid Stop, Slow Down - Move the door to the desired mid stop slow down
position then look at the value of the encoder. Enter that value into this
field keeping in mind that the door will not stop at this value, it will over
travel so it’s a good idea to subtract approximately 100 counts to allow
for this.
•This is only used when the Mid Stop Program in Enabled.
Safety Edge Bypass – Enter here the value at which the safety edge input
is disabled during the closing cycle. This should be a value right before
the door comes in contact with the floor. This is to disable the edge
input when it contacts the floor.
Aux Input Dead Band Timer – (00.0s) – Depending on the device which
the Auxiliary Open input is controlled, false triggers may occur, or a
settling time may be required before the input is stable. This timer
provides a way to filter out false triggers.

Encoder Error (5.0s)– Here is where the timer value is set that the
controller will monitor for change in encoder positions prior to stopping
movement of the door and displaying the error “Encoder Error.”
Enable Home Sensor (500) – Enter Here the position at which the
controller should start looking for the home (fully closed) sensor. The
purpose of this is so the encoder does not stop and zero the encoder
unless it’s close to the floor.
Motor Time Out (20s)– Here is where the value is set for the
maximum amount of time in Seconds that the motor is allowed to
run in either directions before it will cease moving and display and
error stating “Mtr Timeout.”
