GPSisa24-satellitenetworkofNavstarnavigationalsatellitesthattransmitsignalstousers,giving
themanaccurateposition inthreedimensionsalongwithatimestamp.Whileit wasoriginally
developedinthe1970sasanavigationalaidforsubmarine-basedTridentnuclearmissiles,its
commercialusehasexpandedwellbeyondvehicleandhikernavigationtoincludenetworktiming
controlforaccuratedeliveryofpacketcommunications.

PowerON/OFFdevice
PowerOn
HoldthePOWERON/OFFbuttonforone(1)seconduntilallthree LED sblinksimultaneouslyonce.Then
the GreenLED(GPSStatus)will beon.Thisindicatesthedevice hasbeenturnedonandstartstosearchGPS
satellites.
PowerON/OFF button
WhensufficientnumbersofGPS satellitesarefoundandthepositioncanbefixed,theGreenLED
will begintoblink,indicating goodGPSsignalreceptionand GPSdataisbeinglogged
Nowyoucanconcentrateonandenjoytakingphotos!

Toturnthepoweroff,justholdthePOWERON/OFFbutton againforaboutthree (3)seconds.Allthree

TheGreenLEDisthe GPSStatus LED. Itiseitherconstantlyonorblinking.Blinkingindicatesgood
reception ofsatellitesignalandGPS positiondataisbeing logged.Constantonindicatessatellitesignal
reception ispoorandposition cannotbe fixedandlogged.
Togeta goodreceptionofGPSsignal,adjusttheorientationoftheAGL3080 device toensureitisfacing
opensky. Normally,afteradjustment, the positioncanbefixedveryquicklyandthe GPSStatusLED(Green)
will againblink.
TheRedLEDisthe StorageFull LED. Whenthestoragespace runsout,theRedLEDwillbeonandno
moreGPSdatabelogged.
Ifthishappens,turnthedevice off,downloadthe loggeddatatothe computerandcleanup the storagedisc.
The storagedisc canbecleanedeitherbydeleting file(s)fromthecomputerorbyperformingaCLEANDISC
operation whenturningtheAGL3080deviceon. PleaseseeinstructionsbelowaboutCLEANDISC.
TheAmberLEDisthe BatteryPower LED. TheAmberLEDwillblinkwhenthebatterypowerlevel
becomeslow(<20%offullpower).Itisjustawarningsign aboutbatterypowerlevelisgettinglow.The
device stillfunctionsproperly.
Butwhenthebatterypowerlevelistoolowforthedevice tofunctionnormally,theAmberLEDwill
changefromblinkingtoconstanton,andboththeGPS and dataloggingfunctionswillbeturnedoff.When
thishappens, please turnthedevice offand replacebatteryimmediately.
SpecialFunctions
MARKbutton
PositionMark Apositioncanbe markedusingAGL3080ifthe “MARK”buttonisfirmlypressedonce.
Whendoingso, the StorageFull LEDwillbeonandthe devicewill insertaMARKtagtothe loggedGPS
positiondata. IfyoupresstheMarkbuttonrightaftertakingapicture, theaccompanyingGPSPhotoTracker
softwarewillusethis “markedpositiondata”totagthepicture.
GPSReset Duringnormaloperation,youcanpressthe “MARK”buttonforaboutthreetofour(3~4)
secondstoresettheGPS –theAGL3080 willre-starttheGPSsatellitessearching withoutusingsatellite
informationalreadyon-handand storedinternally.BecausethesetofGPSsatellitesdata(theorbitaland

information arelocation-dependent –attwofarenoughlocationstheGPSreceiverwillseedifferentsetof
GPSsatellites,hencedifferentsatellitesdata.GPSreceiversassumetheon-handinternalsatellitesdatais
validandwill useit firstinsearchingandtrackingsatellites.Ifwrongsatellitedataisused,thesearchingwill
takealongtimeorevenfail.TheGPSResetfunction thuscanhelpspeedupthepositionfixoperationifthe
device wasusedpreviouslyatplace(s)farawayfromthecurrentlocationoroversometime(>twohours)
ago.
SetUpMode
AGL3080has6loggingmodesforusertochoosefromifit'sdesired.Usercanconfigurethetracking
modesin"SetUpMode".
Entering"SetUpMode"
Atdevice poweroffstatus,holdboth"POWERON/OFF"buttonand"MARK"buttonsimultaneouslyfor
5seconds.Whenyouholdbothbuttons,thethreeLEDwill flash5timesandstopatlightonmode.You can
release the buttonswhenthree LEDlightsare allon.
Setupmode functiondescription
Loggingmodesetup AGL3080 has6loggingmodes.Youcanchangeloggingmodebypressing "MARK"
button.Foreachpress ofthe"MARK",it enterstofollowing loggingmode.Pressing"MARK"at"Mode6"
will bringyoubackto"Mode1".

Install/Replace Battery
Thedevicerequiresthree standardAAAsize batteriestooperate.NiHrechargeablebatteriesoralkaline
batteriesarerecommended.[Pleasenotethatbatteriesarenotpartoftheaccessoriesincludedinthe
package.]
Toinstallorreplacebattery,please:
1. Flipthe device sothatthe bottomsideisup.
2. Findthelatchofthebatterycompartmentcoverandslideit sidewaystorelease the cover.
3. Pull the coverouttoopenthebatterycompartment.Thebatteriescanbe easilyinserted,butplease
ensure thecorrectpolarity.
WARNING: Wrongpolaritywillcause permanentdamagetothe device.
ANoteonBatteryand AGL3080’sOperatingTime
Batterieshavewiderangeofcapacity(inmAh)andvoltagelevel(eventhoughtheyarespecifiedas1.5V).
Thesefactorswill causevariationofAGL3080 soperatingtime.Pleasechecktoensurethequalityof
batteriesismeetingitsspecifications.Werecommendusing1.5Vand900 mAhAAAbatteries.NiHtype
batteryisrecommendedwhenusingAGL3080inalowtemperatureenvironment.
UsingtheAccompanying AMODPhotoTrackerSoftwaretoTagYour
Photos
Youcaninstall theAMODPhotoTrackerSoftwarebyclickingtheSetupbutton(thesetup file)inthe
includedCD-ROM.Youcanspecifywhichdirectorytoinstall thePhotoTrackerSoftware. Anicon
(short-cut)will alsobecreatedattheDesktop foreasyaccess tothesoftware tool.

accompanyingphotomanagementtoolsforphotodownloading andstorage.]

Thenyou canimporttheGPSlogbyselectingtheAMODPhotoTrackerDevice.Ifyouhavepreviously
importedtheGPS logfiles,youcango tothedirectorytoimportthem.Multiplelogfilescanbeselected
simultaneouslyforimport.

The PhotoTrackerwillautomaticallytagtheselectedphotoswiththeGPS locationinformation. When
complete, thephotoswill beshownin blue color.Thosephotosunabletobetaggedwillbeshownin red
color. Those alreadyhave GPStagswillbeshownin black color.Thosephotosthathavebeentaggedby
depressingthe “Mark”button will beshownin green color.Pleaserefertothe descriptionaboutthe Position
Markfunctioninpage3ofthisUserManual.
TimeSync
Becausethe position taggingisdonebycrossrelatingtheGPS time(UTCstandardtime)andDSCtime
(DSC sinternaltime),tofindoutaccuratelyhowmuchoffistheDSCtime iscriticaltothe positionaccuracy
duringtagging. Tooffsetthe difference betweenGPStime,whichisaccurate, andtheDSCinternaltime,
whichmaynotbeaccurateandcouldbeoff,a TimeSyncfunction isimplemented.Thisoffsetoperation
canreduceinaccuracyinthegeo-locationtaggingprocess. However, Time Syncisan optional function –if
theDSCtime isaccurateenoughthatthegeo-locationerrorisnotsignificantorcriticaltoyou,youcanskip
theTimeSyncstepaltogether. BeforeyouentertheTimeSyncoperation, please checkandadjustthe timeof
yourcomputer. Thisisnecessarybecausethelocalcomputertimeisusedasthe standardtimetoderive the
offset(thedifference)betweentheDSCtime(storedinthephotoimagefile)andthestandardtime. Please
make sureyourlocaltimezone andtime arebothcorrectand accurate. YoucanconducttheTimeSync
operation byclickingtheTime Sync icontobring up thefollowingwindowandcheckthe “Enable Time
Sync.”button tobegintheoperation.
The InputDSCTime fieldisforyoutoenterthetimethatwillbeusedtosyncwiththeDSCtime.
There are twostepsinvolved –adjusttimezone and adjustactualtime.
Adjusttimezone
The picturesmaybe takenatplacesthatbelongtoadifferenttime zone. Forthese pictures, please
findthe time difference (inhours)andadjusttheinformationinthe InputDSCTime field. Please
note thischangemayalsoinvolve theadjustmentofthe date informationinthe InputDSCTime field.

WhentheDSCtime isoff slightly,onlythesecondsand/orminutesfieldsneedtobe adjusted.Entera
time thatisslightlyaheadthanthedisplayedDSCTime. Whenthe DSCTime (whichisconstantly
countingup)reachesthispre-selectedtime, clickApplysothattheDSCTimefieldisupdated
(synchronized)totheDSC ssystemtime. Whenthisisdone, justclickOKtocontinue.
WiththeseadjustmentsintheTimeSyncoperation,the PhotoTrackerSoftwarecanderive the
differencebetweenDSCTimeandPCSystemTime. Thistimedifferenceisthenusedtooffsetany
timingerrorthatcouldexistbetweentheDSCandGPStime.
Whentravelingtoa differenttimezone, ifyourDSCtimeisadjustedtothelocaltime,thenthe
adjustmentneededtocompensatethe time differencebecomesatediousandcomplicatedtask –you
needtorecordeachtimezone.Whentagging photos, theyand the logfilesmustbecorrelatedinto
groupsfirst. Foreachgroup, adjustthetime separatelyusingTimeSync. Ifthisprocessistoo
tediousforyou,whenyou goona tripthatcrossesseveraltime zones,please donotadjustyourDSC
time atall toavoidthe complication/confusionthismaycause.

The GPStaggedpicturescanbeshownonGoogleMapbyclickingthe “ShowonGoogleMap”

TroubleShooting
GPSStatusLEDstayson/PoorGPSsignalreception
Sometimesthe receptionofGPSsatellitesignalmaybe poororblocked.Thismayhappenwheninsidea
buildingortunnel, ordue toweatherconditionorthe GPSsignalisblockedbyobjectssuchasbuildings, trees,
metalshields, etc.Whenthishappens,the GPSStatusLEDwillstayonandnoGPSdatawill be logged.
Pleasecheckandadjusttheorientationand positionoftheAGL3080 toensurenoblockageandfacingopen
sky.WhentheAGL3080canreceiveGPSsignal, theGPSStatusLEDwillresumeblinking. Ifthe AGL3080
wasusedpreviouslyatalocationfaraway, performa GPSResetoperationtoforcea “ColdStart”ofthe GPS.
The AGL3080 shouldbebacktonormalsoonandtheGPS StatusLEDwillbeginblinkingagain.
MissingorlostGPSlogfile
Batterycannotberemovedwhilethe AGL3080 isstill turnedonandfunctioning. If thishappened,the power
tothedevice willbeout.Thispoweroutage will causethe loggedGPSdata notbeing properlysavedandthus
permanentlylost. Pleaseexercisecaution nottoopenthe batterycompartmenttoremoveorchange thebattery
whiletheAGL3080isstillonandfunctioningtoavoidlosingloggedGPSdata.
Batteryoperatingtime tooshort
Batteriesvaryalotinquality, affectingthe AGL3080 soperating time.Pleasemakesuretouse quality
batteries.We recommend900mAhbatteries.WhenusingtheAGL3080ina coldenvironment,please use
NiHbatteries.
CannotturnontheAGL3080
The batterycontactmaybepoororthebatterypowerlevelmaybetoolow. Thismayhappenwhenthe
AGL3080 wasnotusedforalongtime. Theleakageinbatteriesdrainedthe batterypower.Whennotusing
theAGL3080, please takethe batteriesoutandstorethemproperlytomaintainthe battery spowerlevel. If
thebatteriesare tooold,replace withnewones.
