234VAC
1. Plug t e LA-1000 into a 117VAC source.
2. Set t e Pwr/on switc to t e on position.
Set t e STY/OPT switc to t e STY positions.
ALWAYS ALLOW 3 MINUTES WARM-UP TIME BEFORE APPLY
ING DRIVE POWER TO THE LA-1000.
3. Set t e Meter switc to t e (volts) posit
ion. T e plate voltage meter s ould read approx
imately 1200 VDC.
4. Tune your exciter in t e Tune or CW mode as
stated in your exciter's manual.
5. Reduce CW output using t e carrier or CW
level control on your exciter. Unkey your ex
citer.
Before continuing, never keep t e LA-1000
keyed for longer t an 15 seconds at a time wit
out allowing equal cool down time.

6. Preset t e LA-1000 meter switc to t e I (current)
position. Key your exciter and begin to increase t e CW
carrier level untill reac ing approximately 300 mA on t e
plate current. Quickly turn t e TUNE and LOAD control for
maximum output on your wattmeter. Contimue to Increase
your exciters output untill you reac approximately 600mA
(.6A X 1166v = 700 watt DC input).
7. Repeak your Tune and Load controls for maximum output.
To operate SSB, tune t e LA-1000 as stated above. W en
fully tuned in CW, simply c ange your exciter to SSB. No
furt er adjustments to t e LA-1000 are required.
THEORY OF OPERATION
Power Supply
After t e LA-1000 as been installed according to
t e instructions, and power is applied, SI is used for in
itial turn on. AC is applied to Tl, t e main power trans
former, and to t e fan, Bl. T e t ree secondary windings
of t e transformer are used to produce filiment voltage
(6.3v) relay control voltage (12v) and HV. T e I2v DC is
developed by use of a alf wave rectifier. W en power is
applied, meter lamp X2 and LED D1 (internal part of SI)
will lig t.
T e closing of S2 allows 12 v to be applied to t e
relays (RL2-6) in t e tuned input, t e QSK module, t e Xmi
lamp XI and t e LED D2 ( internal part of t e S2)
T e ig voltage section is made up of 8 diodes in
a bridge circut. Eac diode (D4-11) is a 3 amp lOOOpiv in
parallel wit a .01 uf capacitor (C23-30 for transient pro
tection, and a 470 Ko m h w resistor (R 3-10} for equal
ization. For filtering, 3 125 uf 0500 v capacitors ( 031-
are used in series. Eac as a 10GK o m 2w bleeder resis
tor (R15-17) in parallel.
RF Operation.
W en S2 is in t e OPT mode, 12 v is applied to t e
tuned input relays, t e QSK module and t e transmitter ligf
T e band switc w ill select a ground pat for one of t e
tuned input relays, allowing t e proper section to be plac<

in series wit t e RF pat . W en t e exciter is
keyed» it provides a closed circuit for t e trans
mitter lamp and t e QSK module. T e QSK module
in turn keys t e antenna relay RL-1.
RF from t e exciter flows into Jl, t roug
t e proper input circuit, t roug C12, 13 to
t e cat odes of tubes V1-V4. Diode D12 pro
vides bias for t e tubes.
PC 1-4 are parasitic c okes. T e RF comes
from t e tubes, t roug C35 to t e tank circuit
L6, 17, C36, C37. T e tank is tuned for max
imum transfer of RF to t e antenna t roug J3
RFC 3 is to protect t e antenna from DC poten
tial .

UNPACKING
Carefully unpack t e LA-1000 and examine contents
for evidence of s ipping damage. If any damage is dis
covered, notify t e transportation company t at del
ivered t e equipment. Be sure to keep t e carton and
packing material as t e transportation company t at de
livered t e equipment will want to examine t em. Keep
t e carton and packing even if no s ipping damage occurs.
Having t e original carton available simplifies repack
ing t e equipment for storage or to return it to t e fac
tory for service.
Remove t e 12 screws olding t e top cover in place.
Remove t e packing material located over t e tubes and
under t e tuned input PC board. Install t e fuse supplied
w ic is attac ed to t e transformer indide t e amp. Re
place t e top cover wit t e vent oles near t e rear.
INSTALLATION
T e LA-1000 is factory wired to operate from 117VAC.
If 234 VAC is desired, you will ave to rewire t e power
transformer primary as s own below. T e terminal strip
is located in front of t e power transformer on t e c assi
1. Position t e LA-1000 so t e rear and t e bottom
of t e unit are clear of all obstructions. T is will
assure adequate air circulation.
2. Connect a wattmeter and a 50 o m load to t e RF
output connector using RG 8u or its equivalent.
3. Connect t e LA-1000 RLY connector to your exciter
using s ielded cable, (See interconnect diagram)
T e LA-1000 requires closed contacts for keying. Con
sult your exciter's owners manual for proper#connection
4. Connect t e LA-1000 RF IN connector ot t e excite
RF output using 50 o m coax.
5. Connect as s ort a ground lead as possible from
a good eart ground to t e LA-lOOO’s GND connector.
