Warranty and liability1.
Vita Systems are manufactured und inspected taking high quality and safety standards into
consideration.
However, the warranty and liability do not cover personal injuries and property damage which can be
attributed to one or more causes such as the following:
oFailure to follow these assembly instructions and operating instructions.
oImproper assembly, commissioning, maintenance and operation.
oImproper repair or transport.
oUnauthorised structural modifications to the device.
oAny damage caused by continuing to use the device in spite of an obvious defect.
oFailure to use original replacement parts and original accessories.
oImproper use of the device.
oForce majeure.
oSurfaces used for heat storage with irregularities such as air inclusions, small cracks
or rough edges.
oSubject to colour variations, technical changes and errors.

Description of the device4.
Vita series fireplace insert with slide-up or swing-out door for burning natural split logs. See separate
installation and operating manual for more detailed information.
System cladding for free-standing installation, consisting of heat-resistant storage medium and steel
applications. Foot element equipped with adjustable feet for easy set-up.
General information5.
Please read these instructions thoroughly before beginning assembly work. Damage caused
by improper handling is excluded from any liability and guarantee claims.
Please consult your district master chimney sweep before assembling and installing the fireplace.
He will advise you of building law regulations, the suitability of your chimney, and will conduct the
acceptance procedure for your fireplace insert. The chimney calculation is executed in accordance
with DIN EN 13384 with the value triplet specified in the instructions for the Vita fireplace insert of
your choice (see technical data). Small children, elderly or infirm persons: As is the case with all
heating devices, it is expedient that you attach a protective fixture for these groups of persons, as
the view pane and the cladding parts of the fireplace can become extremely hot!
Risk of burning! Never leave these groups of persons unattended near the fireplace when a fire is
burning or has just been extinguished! National and European standards, the respective state-
specific and local directives and regulations, in particular the respective firing installation ordinance
of the German Federal State, must be complied with for the setup and operation of your fireplace
insert and for the connection to the chimney.
National and European standards as well as local regulations must be observed during the
installation process.
The systems may only be combined and installed with the respective fireplace insert from
Arcadia. The systems may not be set up with components from third-party suppliers; doing
so will render all guarantee and warranty claims null and void.
All illustrations on setting up Vita Systems relate to the fireplace insert with the slide-up
combustion chamber door. These instructions also apply to the swing-out version of the
fireplace insert; the work steps for set-up and system cladding are identical.
The Vita Systems were inspected based on EN 13229. The specified minimum distances to
flammable materials or materials to be protected must be observed. Consult your local
chimney sweep to make sure your new fireplace insert is configured properly in terms of fire
safety regulations before putting it into operation.

On-site requirements6.
It is necessary to check on-site circumstances such as the bearing capacity of the floor before the
installation. Depending on the model, the total weight of the fireplace insert (including cladding) may
be up to 600 kg.
If it is not possible to evaluate the bearing capacity of the floor (wooden beam ceilings, for
instance), then a structural engineer should be consulted. Flammable floor coverings must be
protected by a covering of non-flammable materials in front of the opening to the
combustion chamber.
The covering should extend at least 50 cm to the front and at least 30 cm to each side,
measured from the opening to the combustion chamber or inspection glass.
See Chapter 13 for the distances to the rear and sides between the Vita System and any materials
which are flammable or require protection. Fire safety. You can find information on the chimney
configuration in the installation instructions of the fireplace insert in question.
Storage medium material7.
Vita Systems are made up of a heat-resistance storage medium and exhibit the typical characteristics
of concrete in terms of surface and appearance. In spite of great care taken during production and
transport, slight irregularities, small cracks or rough edges cannot be completely eliminated and are
no reason to file a complaint. All storage elements are produced in accordance with the
requirements of exposed storage class SB2 and are inspected prior to delivery by in-house quality
assurance to ensure they are in good condition.
Surface8.
•Repair of minor damage
The Vita System comes with a repair set of storage medium for rectifying minor damage such as
chips or hairline cracks. To use properly, stir the storage medium with water until a dense
consistency has been reached. Before applying it with a spatula, dampen the surfaces to be worked
on so that the materials can achieve a permanent connection.
•Surface design
The surfaces of Vita Systems can be refined with commercially available silicate paints or plaster
materials, as desired. Make sure to select a wall covering which is able to continuously withstand
temperatures of over 150°C.
The system should only be coated 24 hours after assembly to make sure that all of the glue
connections have hardened. If any surfaces were spackled over beforehand, they must be smoothed
out with fine sandpaper.

Combustion air-side connection9.
Arcadia Vita series fireplace inserts can be supplied with combustion air either directly from the
room or from the outdoors via a duct. Follow the instructions in the Arcadia Vita fireplace insert
manual when setting up the combustion air supply.
If the combustion air is fed in from outside through a duct, this can be routed from below or from the
rear wall, as desired. If the duct is routed in from the back, it will be necessary to make a cut-out in
an element of the system. For this purpose, there is a recess in the right position on the inside of the
cladding element which must be opened beforehand.
Proceed as follows when making the cut-out:
•Place the jig in the interior recess and mark the centre point.
•Drill through the centre point of the storage element with a conventional masonry drill, turn
the element over and draw a sector of a circle on the opposite site.
•Drill a starting hole outside of circular contour and cut out the perforation with a
conventional jig saw.
Use stone cutting blades for this and maneuver around the cut-out at a low feed speed.

•After finishing the sawing, smooth the edges and then clean up the surface with non-woven
abrasive, if necessary.
It is a good idea to protect the cut-out contour with tape in order to prevent the edges from
breaking off without control!

Flue-side connection10.
The flue-side connection of the Vita System can be connected from above or from the rear (side
connection only possible with Vita angolo models). A 90° flue gas elbow is available as an accessory
for the rear/side connection mode.
Conventional 90° elbows cannot be combined with the system cladding!

In the case of a rear flue gas connection, the flue gas connection elbow is only attached
during the course of the installation process. In this case, disassemble the elbow and put it
aside for subsequent installation.
The storage elements must be cut out to enable a rear flue gas connection. To make the cut-
out, proceed as described in “Chapter 10. Combustion air-side connection.”

The on-site measures for connecting the flue gas connection to the chimney (use of wall
lining) and connection dimensions for the combustion air duct must be conducted before
installing the Vita Systems. A prerequisite for ensuring the accuracy of the specified
connection dimensions is the proper configuration of the base element. This must be
established according to the instructions under “Installation order – base element.”

The technical fire safety specifications in these instructions must be followed when installing the Vita
System. All distances specified are minimum distances which must be observed.
12.1. Floor coverings near the fireplace
Floors made of flammable materials near the combustion opening of the Vita System must be
protected by a covering made of non-flammable materials. The covering must extend from the
combustion opening by at least 50 cm to the front and at least 30 cm to the sides. The non-
flammable covering may be made of ceramic (such as tiles or flagstones), natural stone or mineral
materials (such as marble or granite), metal at least 1 mm thick or suitably sturdy and heat-resistant
glass. The covering must be secured to prevent it from sliding.

12.2. Radiation protection
When installing on installation surfaces which are non-flammable and must be protected, the
fireplace insert of the Vita System must be fitted with a radiation protection sheet. This prevents
thermal stress points from forming and adjoining components becoming heated to an impermissible
degree.
Radiation protection sheets for wall connections are available as an accessory.
As an alternative, the fireplace may be installed according to the applicable technical rules.

Installation of the fireplace13.
The Vita System must be installed by at least 2 persons. It is essential to follow the steps described in
the order specified in the “Installation order” chapter. As an example, we show the installation
process on the Vita System frontale 60 SL model, but the same process can be used on the other
models. Separate instructions are provided for device-specific exceptions on other models. Inspect
the system elements thoroughly before installation and pay attention to the exact installation
position among them. The system elements are self-adjusted by their design and require no further
actions to orient them.

Installation order14.
Base element
The base element provided must be positioned at the proper location and aligned horizontally using
the adjustment feet. In the case of wall-flush installation, the base element must be completely
pushed up against the installation wall.
Special instructions on the Classic corner decoration elements in the case of wall-flush installation.
If the Classic corner decoration elements are used for the mounting wall, then the base
element for the wall-flush installation must be pushed forward by 18mm!
