1.0 Introduction
The ACE Target and Studio Cold Start Guide (DOC-TEL-ACE-CS-B-0) supplants the pre-
viously separate ACE Target Cold Start Guide (DOC-02-TEL4-TCS-1) and ACE Studio Cold
Start Guide (DOC-02-TEL4-ASCS-1).
The cold start procedure(s) described in this document allow you to build Telestra systems from
scratch. There are three main reasons for using the cold start procedure:
lInstalling the latest software version
lRebuilding a damaged hard disk
lCreating spare hard disks
The following steps outline the cold start procedure:
1. To back up the Telestra server, see Section 3.0, "Back up the Telestra server" on page3.
2. To configure the BIOS settings, ensuring the cold start procedure runs properly, see Sec-
tion 4.0, "Configure the BIOSsettings" on page5.
3. (Optional) To perform a media check, see Section 5.0, "(Optional) Perform a media
check" on page15.
4. To complete the cold start procedure, erase the hard drive, and install the Red Hat and
Telestra Target software. For Red Hat 5 installation instructions, see Section 6.1.1,
"Install Red Hat 5.10 and higher" on page17. For Red Hat 6 installation instructions, see
Section 6.2, "ACE Target cold start for Red Hat 6.X" on page20.
5. Configure the network. First, assign a temporary IP address to the Telestra Target, which
allows a web browser to remotely access ACE Target software. Then use the Remote
Management System on a web browser to complete the network setup. To configure the
network, see Section 9.0, "Configure the Telestra Target network" on page33.
6. (Optional) If you purchased ACEStudio software, complete the ACEStudio cold start
procedure on a separate box. To install Red Hat 6 on an ACEStudio development work-
station, see Section 10.2, "ACEStudio cold start procedure for Red Hat 6.X" on page41.
7. To restore the Telestra server, see Section 11.0, "Restore system backup" on page46.
8. Upload the Options file. If the Options file is not included in the system backup file, you
must upload it manually. This step enables the software license for system functionality.
For Options file details and upload instructions, see Section 12.0, "Options files" on
page47.

Guide.
To complete the ACE cold start procedure, you will need the following items:
lHardware
oTelestra 2U platform with removable hard drive
oMonitor
oKeyboard
lSoftware
oTelestra Target Software Installation DVD and/or Telestra Studio Software Installation

3.0 Back up the Telestra server
The Backup System Configuration page creates an archive of backup files on the devel-
opment workstation. This page includes the following settings:
lOptions: includes all options files loaded on the system.
lProjectsArchive: includes all projects archived on the system.
lRMSUsersAndConfig: includes user information (e.g., passwords, lockout settings).
lSoundLibrary: the library of sound files on the system, including the project's index and
files in Waveform (.wav) audio file format.
lTelestraConfig: includes configuration settings (e.g., network settings, preferences).
To create a system backup, follow these steps:
1. Open a web browser on the ACEStudio development workstation. Ensure the devel-
opment workstation shares the same network as the Telestra server.
2. To access the RMS, in the address bar, type the Telestra server's IP address.
3. In the top-right corner, click Login.
4. Log into the system using the following default credentials:
Username Password
admin astirules
5. From the left menu, under Configuration, click Backup Restore.
6. On the System Backup/Restore page, click Backup System Configuration.

7. Select all or some of the desired configuration options, and click Start Backup.
Figure 3: Start Backup
8. When the backup is complete, next to Filename, click the archive (.tgz) file, and the
backup downloads your local system.
Caution: Do not save backup files on the development workstation. The cold start pro-
cedure erases any backup files saved in this location.

4.0 Configure the BIOSsettings
To ensure the cold start procedure runs properly, configure the BIOS as outlined below. To
identify your system's BIOS version, follow these steps:
1. To reboot the server, press the Reset button on the front of the chassis.
2. To enter the BIOS Setup Utility, immediately press the Delete key as the system boots.
Your system's BIOS version displays at the bottom of the BIOS Setup Utility screen.
Figure 4: BIOS version on utility screen
If the BIOSversion does not display at the bottom of the screen, your system may be
using BIOSversion Q35AX American Megatrends. Reboot the server, wait for the beep
sound, and press the Pause | Break key to pause your screen and confirm the BIOS ver-
sion, as shown below:
