Brief Introduction
Aventura’s DH5 and NVR Series servers are standard 3U rack-mount systems with support for up to 16
hard drives, RAID 0,1,5,6 storage configurations, IP video decoding and up-to 32 channels of analog
video encoding (DH5 only).

Networking
When using this unit on a network, connecting to a private (non-internet) network is highly
recommended for maximum security. Any potential problems or security issues resulting from an
internet-capable connection are the responsibility of the end-user.
Software
Aventura servers come pre-loaded with all the software required for proper operation. Installing
additional software such as virus protection is not recommended. Any potential problems or security
issues resulting from the installation of additional software is the responsibility of the end-user.
Hardware
Do not remove, install or modify any hardware components of the system. All maintenance must be
performed by Aventura or an affiliated authorized service.
Equipment Mounting
The unit should be rack-mounted using a rail system. Rails should be secured to the side of the unit and
to the server rack in accordance with their installation instructions.

Back Panel Layout
The back panel of the unit is where all wired connections are made for power and connectivity with
external devices.

NOTES:
Video encoder inputs require use of the supplied video pigtail connectors to convert BNC analog
video connections to the D connectors on the back panel.
COM port can be used to communicate with external devices. Additional hardware may be
required to interface between COM port and external devices. Additional COM ports can be
added with USB-to-COM Port adapters.
Audio output is available for systems with audio/video recording capabilities. Once speakers are
connected operators can enable or disable live audio and audio playback in the Aventura
software.
Video Decoder Outputs are an optional feature available with DH5 systems. Decoder outputs
can be used to create an analog composite video signal using any video or combination of video
feeds available to the server. Output is configured through the Aventura software.

Hard Drive Bays
DH5 and NVR Series Servers have 16 HDD bays in the front of the unit. Bays are hot-swappable and can
be released and removed by pulling on the HDD release lever located on the front of each bay.

LED Panel
The LED panel of the unit provides a general indication of the current state of the machine as well as the
ability to reset the machine or silence alarms.

Reset and Mute switches can be operated using a pin-tool. Switches are recessed to prevent accidental
activation.
HDD LED will flicker during hard drive activity.
Power LED should remain active and solid during normal machine operation.
Alarm LED should remain un-lit during normal machine operation.
LAN1 and LAN2 LED will flicker during network activity on the associated LAN port.

Power
Aventura DH5 and NVR Series servers support up to three redundant power supplies of up to 300W
each. Unit requires AC 110V, 60 Hz grounded power source.
COM Port Devices
Aventura software supports communication with a number of external devices using the COM port.
One COM port is included standard as part of the main unit. If additional COM ports are required they
should be added using a standard USB-to-COM Port adapter.
RS-485 Setup
By connecting the optional VID-232485EX adapter to the DH5 Series COM port the unit can be used to
communicate with and operate RS-485 hardware such as PTZ cameras. Please follow instructions
included with the adapter and connected equipment for proper wiring. Connected devices must be
configured in the Aventura software according to the settings outlined in the device manual.

Alarm Inputs/Outputs
Aventura software is capable of handling alarms when a DH5 Series server is connected to an external
alarm box. Two alarm boxes are available:
VID-ALARM-8CH-COM has 8 alarm inputs and 8 alarm outputs
VID-ALARM-16CH-COM has 16 alarm inputs and 8 alarm outputs
Alarm boxes should be connected to the COM port of the DH5 unit in accordance with the individual
unit’s installation instructions.

Other COM Port Devices
Configuration options are also available for communication with external PTZ Keyboard Controllers, POS
Systems, Access Control Systems, and other devices. Please contact your Aventura representative to
discuss specific applications.

packing and shipping instructions for all equipment to prevent damage during transport.
