IONIQ 5
User Guide
How to make the most
out of your IONIQ 5
1How to Unlock your IONIQ 5
Your IONIQ 5 is equipped with a Smart Proximity Key that detects your
key when approaching the car. The car can be unlocked by simply
pressing button on the door handle or by pressing the unlock button
on your remote.
2How to start your IONIQ 5
To start the IONIQ 5 you need to press the button on the dashboard to
the left of the steering wheel. You must depress the brake pedal whilst
doing this just like a normal vehicle.
3How to drive the IONIQ 5
Unlike standard vehicles the IONIQ 5 doesn’t have a gear lever or buttons in the
center console to select which gear you are in. Instead there is a stork on the
right-hand side of the steering wheel which is used to select your desired gear.
Twist the end of the stork either up or down to change gear. The gear selected
will be illuminated on the stork itself and on the driver display screen. To put the
car in park you need to press the button on the end of the stork.
N = Neutral. This is used when you do not require any movement.
R = Reverse. Use this when reversing the car.
P = Park. When you want to leave the vehicle parked
D = Drive. The most useful gear, this allows you to move forward.
4Once on the move in your IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 drives basically no different to any other car, however it benets
from regenerative braking. This allows the car to brake itself by simply releasing
the accelerator pedal. The intensity of the regenerative braking can be changed
to match driving preference and this can be done via the paddles behind
the steering wheel. The left paddle increases the strength of the regenerative
braking, whilst the right reduces the intensity. If the right paddle is held down for
a few seconds, the automatic regenerative braking function is activated which
customizes the strength to suit the environment around the IONIQ 5. This also
helps to improve efciency therefore maximizing your driving distance.
The IONIQ 5 features a range of other useful technologies like wireless smart
phone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and smart
cruise control. Convenient controls located on the steering wheel allows the driver
to easily change settings or entertainment functions while keeping both hands on
the steering wheel for safety.
5Powering the IONIQ 5
This is the key difference between the IONIQ 5 and a conventional car. Instead
of lling the vehicle with fuel when the tank is almost empty, the IONIQ 5 needs
to be recharged when the battery is running low. This is clearly displayed on
the driver display screen with both a percentage and a ‘distance to empty’
kilometer’s gure.
Note: You should avoid running the battery to 0%. If you do happen to run out of
charge then please call roadside assistance on 0800 498 632.
Contact AVIS on 0800 655 111
7How to charge the IONIQ 5
To charge the IONIQ 5 you need to complete the following steps.
A) Park and turn off your IONIQ 5. Make sure to engage the
electric parking brake.
B) Open the plug ap. This button is found on the key remote or
pressing the ap itself. Ensure that the car is unlocked or the
ap will not open.
C) Plug the IONIQ 5 into the power source. If using a 3-pin
power socket you will need to use the supplied charging
cable in the boot.
D) If you are using a public charging station then follow the
instructions provided. If using a 3-pin power socket then
charge will commence automatically.
E) Once charging has started you can track the progress via
the percentage gure on the dashboard or via the pixel lights
next to the charger input. Once all the pixel squares are
illuminated the car is fully charged.
F) The car can be secured when charging if you wish to
complete other tasks. To do this simply lock the car as you
normally would and the plug will lock in position until the
vehicle is unlocked again.
G) Once the required charge percentage has been reached,
cease charging by following the instructions on the charging
unit, unlock the vehicle and then unplug.
6Where to charge IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 is charged by simply plugging the vehicle into a
power source. There are several different power sources ranging
from your regular household power plug to a variety of faster
charge power sources that can be used to charge IONIQ 5.
The gures below are based on the 72.6 kWh battery model. The
58 kWh battery model will experience shorter charging times.
A) 230/240V Power Socket – You can charge using a regular
household power socket using the Emergency 3 Pin
Connector (ICCB) as found in the vehilce. However, this
should only be used as an emergency option and is the most
time consuming method of charging. Recharging time is
approximately 31 hours and uses the Type 2 connection.
B) 7.4 kW AC ‘Fast Charger’ station – These are often located
in areas such as shopping malls or at private residential
properties. Depending on the station, there may be a
requirement to use a supplied Type 2 cable. Recharging time
is around 11 hours and uses the Type 2 connection.
C) Public 50 kW DC ‘Rapid Charger’ station – These are also
located in public spaces and are usually always ‘pay for
use’. Charging time from empty to 80% takes around 1 hour.
These charging stations use a cable which is tethered to the
charging station and use the Type 2 CCS connection.
D) Public 300 kW DC ‘Hyper Charger’ station – The fastest
way to charge your IONIQ 5. These are limited to a few
locations in New Zealand but will roll out across the country
in due course. Charging time for these can be as low as
25 minutes to 80% but will depend on ambient conditions.
These charging stations use a cable which is tethered to the
charging station and use the Type 2 CCS connection.
If you have any further questions then you can either refer to the owners
handbook found in the glovebox or contact AVIS on 0800 655 111
TIP: To nd a public charging station we recommend downloading the ‘Plugshare’ app for your phone. This application can direct you to the nearest
public charging station. Make sure you set your lter to ‘Type 2 & Type 2 CCS Combo’ plug types.
