This set has been designed and manufactured to assure personal safety. Improper use can result in electric

procedures for installation, use and servicing. This unit is fully transistorised and does not contain any parts
that you can repair yourself.
WARNING: Do not remove the cabinet cover or you may be exposed to dangerous voltage. Refer
servicing to qualied service personnel only.
After unpacking this product, read the manual carefully. Follow all the operating and other instructions.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or
mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or
instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• Ventilation Slots and openings in the cabinet protect the appliance from overheating. They are
necessary for ventilation and must not be blocked or covered. Never put the appliance on a bed, sofa,
rug or other soft surface where these openings could be blocked.
• Heat Place the appliance away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves or other products (including

by items placed upon or against it. Pay particular attention to the cord at the plug end, at the appliance
end and at the power board.
• Lightning For added protection for this product during a storm, or when it is left unattended and
unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage to the product
due to lightning and power surges.
• Objects and liquid entry Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they
may touch dangerous voltage points or short-circuit parts that could result in a re or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
• Attachments Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may
cause hazards.
• Accessories Do not place this appliance on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table. The product
may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. Use only with
a cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the product.
Use only a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer and follow the manufacturer’s
instructions for mounting.

• Disc tray Keep your ngers well clear of the disc tray when it is closing to prevent serious injury and
damage to the appliance.
• Burden Do not place heavy objects on the appliance or step on it. The object may fall causing serious
personal injury and damage to the product.
• Damage requiring service Unplug this product from the wall and refer servicing to qualied service
personnel under the following conditions:
a) When the power supply cord or plug is damaged.
b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d) If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those
controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as an improper adjustment of other controls
may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualied technician to restore the
product to its normal operation.
e) If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.
f) When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance, which indicates a need for service.
• Servicing Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose
you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.
• Replacement parts When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used
replacement parts specied by the manufacturer. Unauthorised substitutions may result in re, electric
shock or other hazards.
• Safety check Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to
perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
• Disconnecting power Switching the power button on this appliance only puts it into stand-by mode. To
disconnect it completely from the power supply, you need to pull out the plug, so ensure the plug
is easily accessible and can be removed from the socket readily.
Handling
• The top and rear panels of the unit may become warm after a long period of use. This is not a malfunction.
• When the unit is not in use, be sure to remove the disc and turn o the power.
• If you do not use the unit for a long period of time, it may not function properly in future, so it is best to
turn on and use the unit occasionally.
• Do not place foreign objects on the tray.
Location
Do not locate the appliance in places such as:
• Near heating devices or in an enclosed vehicle.
• In high temperatures (40°C or higher) or high humidity (90% or higher).
• In dirty places.
• Exposed to direct sunlight.

Moisture condensation
Operation may suer from condensation under the following situations:
• When you take the unit directly from a cold place to a warm place.
• When you use the unit in a room where you just turned on the heater, or where cold air from an air
conditioner directly hits the unit.
• During summer, when you use the unit in hot and humid surrounds just after having moved it
from an air conditioned room.
• When the room is steamy or damp.
If condensation exists, the unit will not operate properly. Remove the disc, plug the power cord into the
wall socket, turn on the unit and leave it for minimum 2 hours. After that time, the unit will have warmed
up and any moisture will have evaporated. Keeping the unit connected to the wall socket will keep
moisture condensation problems to a minimum.
Handling discs
• Do not touch the playback side of the disc.
• Do not attach any paper or tape to the disc.
Cleaning discs
• Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the centre
outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.
• If you cannot wipe o the dust with a soft dry cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a soft damp cloth and nish
with a dry cloth.
• Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or antistatic spray
for vinyl LPs, as these may damage the disc.
Storing discs
• Do not store discs in a place subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.
• Do not store discs in a place subject to moisture and dust, such as a bathroom or near a humidier.
• Store discs vertically in a case. Stacking discs or placing objects on discs outside their case may
cause warping.
Electrical disturbance
When you place this unit near a TV, radio or VCR, the playback picture may become poor and the sound may be
distorted. In this case, place the unit away from the TV, radio or VCR.

Writeable DVD discs (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R) must be nalised VR-mode only.
• This Blu-ray disc player supports discs that are compatible with DVD-RAM Standard Version 2.0.
• Playback may not work for some types of disc, or when specic operations such as angle change and
aspect ratio adjustment are being performed. Information about the discs is written in detail on the box.
Please refer to this if necessary.
• Do not allow the disc to become dirty or scratched. Fingerprints, dirt, dust, scratches or deposits of
cigarette smoke on the recording surface may make it impossible to use the disc for playback.
• CD-R/-RW, DVD-RAM/-RW/-R recorded with UDF or ISO9660 format can be played back.
• Windows Media Audio (WMA) les must be written to the disc with a .wma le extension in order to be
recognised and played back properly.
• JPEG picture les must be written to the disk with an .jpeg or .jpg le extension in order to be
recognised and played back properly.

HDMI (High Denition Multi-media Interface) set-up
This can only be achieved using HDMI. HDMI is the only output capable of 1080i/1080p video and the
highest denition audio codecs. Connect the HDMI output of the player to the HDMI input of the audio
receiver. (You will need to connect a second HDMI cable from the HDMI output of the audio receiver to the
HDMI input of the television.)

Loading batteries
1. Open the cover.
2. Insert the batteries.
Make sure to match the + and - on the batteries to the marks inside the battery compartment.
3. Close the cover.
Basic playback
1. Press the STANDBY/ON switch on the front panel of the remote, your player turns on.
2. Turn on the TV, then select the input setting on the TV that matches your connection method to
connect your player.
3. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.
4. Place a disc on the disc tray with the label facing up, then press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray.
It may take a few seconds for the disc to load.
5. If a Blu-ray disc or DVD menu opens, press the CURSOR button to select PLAY, then press ENTER.
6. To eject the disc, press OPEN/CLOSE .
Stop playback
1. Press the STOP button to go to stop mode, the TV screen will show the setup menu. With some
discs, such as DVDs, the player can recall the location where it was stopped.
2. Press the CURSOR button to select "DVD", then press ENTER to resume playback from the point
where playback was stopped, or from the beginning of the disc.
3. Press STOP twice to stop completely.
Pause playback
1. Press PAUSE to pause playback. The sound will be muted.
2. Press PAUSE or PLAY to resume normal playback.

Basic instructions
Important information about batteries
• Do not insert batteries into the remote control in the wrong direction.
• Do not charge, heat, open or short-circuit the batteries. Never throw batteries out into a re.
• Do not use dierent types of battery together, or mix old and new batteries.
• If the remote control does not function correctly or if the operating range becomes reduced, replace all
batteries with new ones.

Fast forward and fast reverse
1. Press F.FWD to fast forward through the disc. Each time the F.FWD button is pressed, the fast forward
motion speed changes. The speed will increase through the following sequence: Fast x 2, Fast x 4, Fast x 8,
Fast x 16, Fast x 32, Fast x 64, Fast x 128.
2. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.
3. Press F.REV to fast reverse through the disc. Each time the F.REV button is pressed, the fast reverse
motion speed changes. The speed will increase through the following sequence: Fast x 2, Fast x 4, Fast x 8,
Fast x 16, Fast x 32, Fast x 64, Fast x 128.
4. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.
Previous and next
Within ve seconds of playing, pressing the PREV key allows you to go back to the previous chapter. After
ve seconds of playing, pressing the PREV key allows you to go back to the start of the chapter.
Every time you press NEXT while the disc is playing it will skip the current chapter and play the next one.
Single step playback
1. Press STEP continuously to step forward to the next single frame in the video.
2. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.
NOTE: When this " ”symbol appears on the screen during operation, it means that the operation is not
permitted by the unit or the disc.

NOTE: The following functions are applicable only to BD (blu-ray) discs. If other disc formats are played, the
screen display and operation will be dierent.
OSD
Pressing this button will display some information on the screen about the disc, such as:“Type of disc“, “Current
time elapsed in title“,“Total amount of time in title“, “Current chapter“,“Total of chapters“ and so on.

Press this button repeatedly to go through each operation in the display above.
NOTE: This key is invalid with a BD-JAVA disc.
A-B
Press A-B to begin the start point. After two seconds, press again to set an end point and complete the setting.
The selected section A-B will be repeated. Pressing a third time will cancel this function.
NOTE: This key is ineective with a BD-JAVA disc.
Search
During playback, press the SEARCH button repeatedly to select a search mode, then press the digit buttons
to select your choices, for example:
Press once: Go to Title - - -
Price twice: Go to Chapter - - -
Press three times: Go to Time --: -- : --
Then press the ENTER key on the remote control to choose the point you want to play.
Pressing a fourth time will cancel the search.
Subtitle
Press this button and the screen will display the information menu. Press the RIGHT button to select the
subtitle language. For example: “01/08 ENG” or "O".“01” indicates the current number of
this language; “08” indicates the total number of languages (the number of languages depends on the disc);
“ENG”indicates the language. Select "O" if you do not want to see subtitles.
Return
Press this button to return to the previous on-screen menu. (The option is only used with WMA/JPEG/MP3 MPEG4 disc.)

Angle
During playback, press this button to change picture angle. This screen will display “Angle X of X“;
the rst “X” indicates the current number of the angle; the second“X”indicates the total number of angles.
Disc menu
1. Press this button and the screen will display “Root Menu“. Select this item according to your preference.
(This key applies to DVD discs with a multi-layer menu.)
2. Press the DISC MENU button on the remote control during operation to open the "Slide Show" selection
menu, then you can select“Slide Show Eects”and “Slide Show Delay”.
Pop-up menu/title menu
During Blu-ray disc playback, press the MENU button to open the pop-up menu.
1. Press the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT button to select an option, then press ENTER.
2. Press POPUP MENU to close the menu.
During DVD playback, press TITLE MENU to open the disc menu.
Set-up
Press this button to get back to the root menu.
NOTE: The root menu will display on the screen automatically under "No Disc" or "Stop" situations.
Colour buttons (red, green, yellow, blue)
These buttons are used when operating a BD-Video disc that includes Java™ applications (BD-J). For more
information about operating this type of disc, please read the instructions that came with the disc.
Volume and mute
Press “+“ (at the right of the VOLUME button) to increase volume, “-“ to decrease the volume.
Pressing MUTE once will display VOLUME MUTE (no voice), the second press will display VOLUME MUTE OFF
(return to normal playback).
Special function playback
Audio channel choose
Press the AUDIO button and the screen will display the information menu. Press the RIGHT button to select
the audio mode, such as: “01/03 Stereo”. “01” indicates the current number of the audio; “03”indicates the total
number of audio; “Stereo”indicates the description of the current audio.
Resolution
This sets the video output resolution. PAL: 576i, 576p, 720p,1080i, 1080p (HDMI), HDMI AUTO NTSC: 480i, 480p,
720p, 1080i, 1080p (HDMI), HDMI AUTO.
NOTE: Setting a resolution your TV cannot support could result in an unstable picture or a loss of picture.
Check your TV manual for guidance.

The massive storage capacity of a Blu-ray (BD) disc allows a far higher standard of picture and audio quality
and a wealth of special eects and enhanced features.
Blu-ray and Java
This player features Java support to enable you to get the most out of the latest Blu-ray discs. When a BD disc
loads, always explore the title menu to enjoy these extra features.
Blu-ray and HDMI
HDMI is the only cable capable of transmitting the huge volumes of data required by the very high picture
resolutions and advanced digital audio codecs that make Blu-ray such an exciting technology.
Playing a Blu-ray disc
Blu-ray discs play very much like standard DVDs, but with a much higher level of interactivity. The standard
features are exactly the same as when playing a DVD, but there are some dierences:
Play resume: This feature is not available on BD-Java discs.
A-B Repeat is disabled on some BD discs.
Enhanced features
Secondary video (picture in picture)
During play: Press the PIP key to turn on the Secondary Video (picture in picture)
Secondary audio
To turn audio on/o with the secondary video, press the SECONDARY AUDIO button to display the information
menu. Use the CURSOR button and then press the ENTER button to select ON and OFF.
NOTE: Only the primary video is played during search or frame-by-frame play. PIP functionality is also known
as BonusView.
Colour buttons
The RED, GREEN, YELLOW and BLUE buttons are used with interactive menus when operating a BD-Video disc
that includes Java™ applications (BD-J). For more information about operating this type of disc, please read the
instructions that came with the disc.
Playing les on a data disc or USB memory stick
When you insert a data disc or USB memory stick containing picture, music or video les into your player, icons
are added to the menu to indicate that the video, music, or picture les are available for playback.
To play audio or video les
1. Press or to select "Music", "Pictures" or "Videos", then press ENTER.
A menu opens.
2. Press or to select "Play Files", then press ENTER.

Viewing photographs
Your player can display digital photograph les that have been burned onto a data disc, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-R/
(W), or Blu-ray disc.
To view photographs:
1. Insert the disc with photographs into your Blu-ray player. The menu below opens.
2. Press or to select "Pictures", then press ENTER. A menu opens.
Main Menu:
Returns to the main menu.
Start Slide Show
To play all les at slide show.
Browse Music:
Opens the music playing menu where you can select music les to play while you view photographs.

Controlling audio CD playback
• To start or pause playback, press . The sound is muted when your player is in pause mode. To resume
normal playback, press .
• To stop playback completely, press . To start playback again, press . Playback starts at the beginning
of the CD.
• To fast-forward, press . To resume normal playback, press .
• To fast reverse, press . To resume normal playback, press .
• To go to the previous track, press . To go to the next track, press .
• To select a track, press SEARCH, enter the track number with the number buttons, then press ENTER.
Alternatively, enter the track number by pressing the appropriate number button(s).
Repeating a CD track
To repeat a title or chapter, press REPEAT one or more times to select a repeat mode. You can select "O",
"Repeat track", "Repeat all", or "Random".
Creating a playback loop on an audio CD
1. Play the disc until you reach the point where you want the loop to start, then press A-B.
2. Play the disc until you reach the point where you want the loop to stop, then press A-B. Your player plays the
loop you created repeatedly.
3. Press A-B to cancel the loop and return to normal playback.
