1. INTRODUCTION
Congratulat ons! W th our new BEHRINGER TRUTH you have
purchased one of the best h gh-resolut on pass ve stud o
mon tors ava lable. It s a tool that reproduces your program
mater al w th h ghest f del ty and balance, pos t on ng sound
sources accurately on the stereo bas s.
The TRUTH speakers stand out thanks to the r toughness and
extremely neutral and authent c sound rend t on. In the bass
range, they operate w th polypropylene membranes and smooth
suspens on. The r scope s broadened downward by us ng a
spec al bass reflex system. In the upper frequency range, a
spec ally developed ferroflu d-cooled alum num tweeter prov des
for subtle s gnal reproduct on. The TRUTH s magnet cally sh elded,
so you can use t near computer mon tors or TV sets. The aud o
s gnal s separated us ng a low-d stort on crossover that creates
a phase-opt m zed frequency separat on.
We recommend that you exper ment w th your TRUTH away
from the pressures of a record ng sess on, n order to get a feel
for t. It w ll be a good dea to l sten to your favor te CDs over the
TRUTH, so that you can get an mpress on of the neutral sound
th s speaker produceswh ch m ght be somewhat unusual at
f rst!
+The following users manual is intended to
familiarize you with the units control elements,
so that you can master all the functions. After having
thoroughly read the users manual, store it at a safe
place for future reference.
ATTENTION!
+The TRUTH is capable of producing extreme
volumes. Please bear in mind, that high sound
pressures do not only temporarily damage your
sense of hearing, but can also cause permanent
damage. Be careful to select a suitable volume.

3. APPLICATION
1.1 Before you get started
1.1.1 Shipme t
The B2030P/B2031P were carefully packed at the factory to
assure secure transport. Should the cond t on of the cardboard
box suggest that damage may have taken place, please nspect
the un t mmed ately and look for phys cal nd cat ons of damage.
+Damaged units should NEVER be sent directly to us.
Please inform the dealer from whom you acquired
the unit immediately as well as the transportation
company from which you took delivery of the unit.
Otherwise, all claims for replacement/repair may
be rendered invalid.
1.1.2 I itial operatio
The TRUTHs must be placed on a flat and stable surface.
1.1.3 Warra ty
Please take a few m nutes and send us the completely f lled
out warranty card w th n 14 days of the date of purchase. You
may also reg ster onl ne at www.behr nger.com. The ser al number
needed for the reg strat on s located on the rear of the un t.

2. CONTROL ELEMENTS
The control elements descr bed n the follow ng are the same
on both speakers.

The connect on term nal of your TRUTH s recessed. Th s way,
you can place t n the v c n ty of walls.
+Always power down your amp before connecting it
to the TRUTH.

3. APPLICATION
3.1 Connection

Please follow these steps to connect your TRUTHs to a power
amp: Loosen the plus screw (red r ng w th a +) and the m nus
screw (black r ng w th a -). Now nsert the plus cord of the
speaker cable connect ng the amp to your TRUTH nto the plus
open ng. Then, connect the m nus cable nto the m nus open ng.
T ghten the screws. Do the same to connect the other TRUTH.
+Make sure that all connections are done properly.
Speaker cables are color-coded to help avoid
confusion. Youll know that the signal is inverted
(i.e. youve mixed up the connections) when you
notice that bass frequencies are getting lost and
when the stereo characteristic of the signal is
majorly worse.
+Always make sure that bare wire ends never touch
the open end of another speaker cable, speaker
connectors or metal parts of your amp.

3. APPLICATION
3.1.1 The truth about speaker cables
Carefully approach the cho ce of what cables you use. Wh ch
cables you use can have a major nfluence on your sound.
Cables of var ous lengths and d ameters affect the res stance
valuecaus ng a loss n power.
On the other hand, that doesnt mean that you should be buy ng
h gh-end cables that cost as much as your speakers. S mply use
the follow ng rule of thumb: Whenever poss ble, use cables w th
large d ameters (gauge) and keep the cable length to a m n mum.
The screw clamps on your TRUTH can accept cable th ckness
of up to 7 mm² (9 AWG).
3.1.2 Amp
The power rat ng of the amp you use should be roughly tw ce
the load capac ty of your TRUTH. Consequently, the B2030P
should be operated w th an amp w th a load capac ty of 2 x 200
Watts, and the B2031P w th an amp w th a load capac ty of
2 x 300 Watts.
Also, you should keep n m nd the mpedance of your TRUTH n
order to guarantee opt mal power del very. The B2031Ps
mpedance s 4 Ω, whereas the B2030Ps s 8 Ω. Use an amp
whose power rat ng roughly corresponds to the values
recommended n the table. The mpedance should correspond to
the values l sted n the table:

Of course, you can use amps w th h gher power rat ngs.
However, make sure not to exceed the load capac ty of your
TRUTH. Damage to speaker components caused by exceed ng
the r load capac ty s not covered by the warranty.
3.1.3 Protecti g your TRUTH
To ensure that your B2030P/B2031P last for years to come,
you should def n tely keep the follow ng n m nd:
sAlways turn the volume down on your amp before
sw tch ng t on or off.
sWhen power ng your equ pment up/down, the amp should
always be the last one to be powered up and the f rst one
to be powered down. Th s way, you avo d loud crackl ng
no se that occurs when you turn stud o equ pment on or
off.
sAlways make sure your aud o s gnal level s opt mally set.
Avo d overdr v ng your amp.
sDo not push your stud o mon tors beyond the r phys cal
l m tat ons. Even though your TRUTH has suff c ent power
overhead, you can st ll damage t f you dr ve t too much or
crank the volume all the way up for longer per ods of t me.
3.2 Speaker placement suggestions
S nce the sound of a speaker depends to a great extent from
ts surround ngs, plac ng your TRUTH correctly s very mportant.
Please try to follow these suggest ons through. Your efforts w ll
be rewarded w th better sound and h gher resolut on.
Both speakers are bu lt dent cally. There s no need to concern
yourself w th wh ch speaker should be placed left and wh ch
speaker should be placed r ght. Place the TRUTHs on a flat and
stable surface, f poss ble use a ded cated speaker stand. In th s
way, the speaker s acoust cally decoupled and wont nduce
v brat ons n nearby objects, wh ch would affect the bass
response. If you cannot use a stand, put the TRUTHs on sp kes
or damp ng foam mater al. Another aspect s the d stance between
speaker and wall: keep the speaker away from the wall, as th s
would emphas ze the bass response, part cularly n corners,
where two walls form an angle.
The BEHRINGER TRUTH B2030P/B2031P s a so-called near-
f eld mon tor, wh ch means that the mpact of the room acoust cs
on the sound w ll be reduced cons derably ow ng to the short
d stance between speaker and l stener.

Th s llustrat on shows how you shouldnt do t: you can clearly
see that a port on of the sound bounces back from the walls
before t reaches the l steners ears. Thus, d rect and reflected
sound waves overlap wh ch results n a colorat on of the sound.

Th s effect can be reduced by turn ng the speakers towards
the l stener. To make reflect ons from ce l ng or floor less l kely,
the tweeters should be on the same he ght as your ears. Please
note that the TRUTH should be operated vert cally. Where th s s
mposs ble, place t hor zontally as shown n the llustrat on ( .e.
woofers closer to each other), to allow for an mproved stereo
mage.

Not only the phys cal locat on of speakers but also the acoust c
character st cs of the room have a substant al effect on the way
your TRUTH sounds. Make sure that the room ne ther sounds too
hall-l ke nor too dullbas cally, ne ther l ke a bathroom nor totally
w thout an echo. You can alter the room acoust cs eas ly by
nstall ng or remov ng carpets, curta ns or furn ture. Fabr c
cover ng on the wall oppos te the speakers m ght be a good dea
f the room s too reflect ve. The next chapter descr bes how to
adapt the TRUTH to the room acoust cs, once t has been set up
properly.

4. SPECIFICATIONS
3.3 Adapting the TRUT to the room acoustics
To acoust cally adapt your TRUTH to your control room, n
cases when the speakers are located n unusual places or when
you have spec f c sound requ rements, you may have to use an
external equal zer. It should be connected n the s gnal path
between your m x ng console and your amp.
The BEHRINGER ULTRACURVE PRO DEQ2496 has proven ts
usefulness n pract ce, as t s not only a s mple equal zer but
also features a real-t me analyzer. You can use our measur ng
m crophone ECM8000 to automat cally adapt the TRUTH to your
room or mod fy ts frequency response.
As a general rule, you should set up and adjust the TRUTH
w th great care. Above all, you should take your t me: unl ke h -f
speakers, the TRUTH s tuned to produce a neutral sound, wh ch
can be confus ng when you are work ng for the f rst t me w th
such a h gh-qual ty speaker. Dont try to adjust the TRUTH w th
an equal zer to produce a bombast c sound that mpresses you
or other l steners. To get a feel ng for the TRUTHs sound, you
should l sten to as many records as poss ble that were produced
n other stud os. We also recommend that you l sten to your own
record ngs over as many other systems as poss ble, for example,
your car system. If you f nd that your m xes are somewhat dull
n the r overall sound, the reason m ght be too much treble from
your TRUTH. On the other hand, f you set the bass level too
h gh, you w ll f nd that your m xes lack bass power. Tun ng a
speaker can take several days t me, so once aga n: take your
t me!

5. WARRANTY
§ 1 WARRANTY ARD/ONLINE REGISTRATION
To be protected by the extended warranty, the buyer must
complete and return the enclosed warranty card w th n 14 days
of the date of purchase to BEHRINGER Spez elle Stud otechn k
GmbH, n accordance w th the cond t ons st pulated n § 3. Fa lure
to return the card n due t me (date as per postmark) w ll vo d any
extended warranty cla ms. Based on the cond t ons here n, the
buyer may also choose to use the onl ne reg strat on opt on v a
the Internet (www.behr nger.com or www.behr nger.de).
§ 2 WARRANTY
1. BEHRINGER (BEHRINGER Spez elle Stud otechn k GmbH
nclud ng all BEHRINGER subs d ar es l sted on the enclosed page,
except BEHRINGER Japan) warrants the mechan cal and
electron c components of th s product to be free of defects n
mater al and workmansh p for a per od of one (1) year* from the
or g nal date of purchase, n accordance w th the warranty
regulat ons descr bed below. If the product shows any defects
w th n the spec f ed warranty per od that are not excluded from
th s warranty as descr bed under § 3 and 4, BEHRINGER shall, at
ts d scret on, e ther replace or repa r the product us ng su table
new or recond t oned parts. In the case that other parts are used
wh ch const tute an mprovement, BEHRINGER may, at ts
d scret on, charge the customer for the add t onal cost of these
parts.
2. If the warranty cla m proves to be just f ed, the product w ll
be returned to the user fre ght prepa d.
3. Warranty cla ms other than those nd cated above are
expressly excluded.
§ 3 RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER
1. To obta n warranty serv ce, the buyer (or h s author zed
dealer) must call BEHRINGER (see enclosed l st) dur ng normal
bus ness hours BEFORE return ng the product. All nqu r es must
be accompan ed by a descr pt on of the problem. BEHRINGER
w ll then ssue a return author zat on number.
2. Subsequently, the product must be returned n ts or g nal
sh pp ng carton, together w th the return author zat on number to
the address nd cated by BEHRINGER.
3. Sh pments w thout fre ght prepa d w ll not be accepted.
§ 4 WARRANTY REGULATIONS
1. Warranty serv ces w ll be furn shed only f the product s
accompan ed by a copy of the or g nal reta l dealers nvo ce.
Any product deemed el g ble for repa r or replacement under the
terms of th s warranty w ll be repa red or replaced.
2. If the product needs to be mod f ed or adapted n order to
comply w th appl cable techn cal or safety standards on a nat onal
or local level, n any country wh ch s not the country for wh ch
the product was or g nally developed and manufactured, th s
mod f cat on/adaptat on shall not be cons dered a defect n
mater als or workmansh p. The warranty does not cover any
such mod f cat on/adaptat on, rrespect ve of whether t was
carr ed out properly or not. Under the terms of th s warranty,
BEHRINGER shall not be held respons ble for any cost result ng
from such a mod f cat on/adaptat on.
3. Free nspect ons and ma ntenance/repa r work are expressly
excluded from th s warranty, n part cular, f caused by mproper
handl ng of the product by the user. Th s also appl es to defects
caused by normal wear and tear, n part cular, of faders,
crossfaders, potent ometers, keys/buttons, tubes and s m lar
parts.
4. Damages/defects caused by the follow ng cond t ons are
not covered by th s warranty:
smproper handl ng, neglect or fa lure to operate the un t n
compl ance w th the nstruct ons g ven n BEHRINGER user
or serv ce manuals.
sconnect on or operat on of the un t n any way that does not
comply w th the techn cal or safety regulat ons appl cable n
the country where the product s used.
sdamages/defects caused by force majeure or any other
cond t on that s beyond the control of BEHRINGER.
5. Any repa r or open ng of the un t carr ed out by unauthor zed
personnel (user ncluded) w ll vo d the warranty.
6. If an nspect on of the product by BEHRINGER shows that
the defect n quest on s not covered by the warranty, the
nspect on costs are payable by the customer.
7. Products wh ch do not meet the terms of th s warranty w ll
be repa red exclus vely at the buyers expense. BEHRINGER w ll
nform the buyer of any such c rcumstance. If the buyer fa ls to
subm t a wr tten repa r order w th n 6 weeks after not f cat on,
BEHRINGER w ll return the un t C.O.D. w th a separate nvo ce
for fre ght and pack ng. Such costs w ll also be nvo ced
separately when the buyer has sent n a wr tten repa r order.
§ 5 WARRANTY TRANSFERABILITY
Th s warranty s extended exclus vely to the or g nal buyer
(customer of reta l dealer) and s not transferable to anyone
who may subsequently purchase th s product. No other person
(reta l dealer, etc.) shall be ent tled to g ve any warranty prom se
on behalf of BEHRINGER.
§ 6 LAIM FOR DAMAGES
Fa lure of BEHRINGER to prov de proper warranty serv ce shall
not ent tle the buyer to cla m (consequent al) damages. In no
event shall the l ab l ty of BEHRINGER exceed the nvo ced value
of the product.
§ 7 OTHER WARRANTY RIGHTS AND NATIONAL LAW
1. Th s warranty does not exclude or l m t the buyers statutory
r ghts prov ded by nat onal law, n part cular, any such r ghts
aga nst the seller that ar se from a legally effect ve purchase
contract.
2. The warranty regulat ons ment oned here n are appl cable
unless they const tute an nfr ngement of nat onal warranty law.
