High Precision Injection
In this cutting-edge generation of petrol
direct injection, the Piezo injectors are
positioned very close to the spark plugs.
They inject the fuel at high pressure and
with extreme precision. With the four-cylinder
models, the injectors’ central positioning
means only part of the combustion chamber
needs to be filled with an ignitable petrol-air
mixture. The engine can then run “leanly” and
so efficiently, precisely in the heavily used
moderate load range.
Auto Start/Stop function
BMW four-cylinder engines with 6-speed
manual transmission automatically shut down
when the vehicle is stationary, for example
at a red light or in a jam, when the driver
activates the clutch and switches to neutral.
The engine restarts as soon as the clutch is
activated again. This innovation significantly
reduces fuel consumption especially in
city traffic.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy,
the generator (alternator) is permanently
driven using engine power, which demands
additional fuel consumption. Brake Energy
Regeneration means the generator
usually only generates electricity when the
driver takes the foot off the accelerator or the
brake – previously unused kinetic energy is
transformed in coasting mode into electrical
energy before being fed into the battery.
In this way, electricity is generated while
coasting, without consuming fuel.
Some BMW EfficientD ynamics features are dependent on the
car’s equipment and are not available for all model variants.

Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance
While driving, tyres are constantly changing
shape. This uses up energy and thus fuel.
Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have
an improved design and use special
materials for their road treads and side
walls, reducing deformation.
Electric Power Steering
In comparison with conventional, hydraulic
steering systems, the electrical steering only
uses energy during actual steering. When the
steering wheel position is constant – for
example, at high speed along the motorway –
the electric motor is inactive*.
Optimum Shift Indicator
Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective
and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where the
Optimum Shift Indicator, in conjunction with
the 6-speed manual transmission, comes in.
It shows the driver what gear to use in order
to drive more efficiently.
The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of fine engineering – always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than
engine power. This is the tradition behind BMW EfficientDynamics. It includes the visionary Hydrogen engine, already used in completely emission-
free BMW Hydrogen 7 vehicles and BMW ActiveHybrid technology, an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine
and electric motor. Every BMW, in fact, already includes a multi-award-winning BMW EfficientDynamics technology package as standard, boosting
dynamics even further while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and CO2emissions.
BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology
With this innovative new exhaust gas
turbocharging method, the energy in the
exhaust is recovered extremely efficiently
thanks to dual-stream flow to a TwinScroll
turbocharger (135i). In tandem with Valvetronic
fully variable valve control and High Precision
Injection, this leads to a significant reduction
in fuel consumption – coupled with a marked
increase in output.
AND THIS IS WHAT COMES OUT.
BMW already offers 26 models with CO2
emissions of 140 g/km and significantly less.
But that’s just for starters. We’re carrying on
our research with BMW EfficientDynamics –
in the quest to bring you more driving pleasure
and less emissions.

oLights package includes vicinity lights in
the door handles, which upon unlocking the
doors illuminate the area outside the doors for
20 seconds to enable safe vehicle access in
the dark. Also included: reading lights at the
front, footwell illumination at the front, vanity
mirror lights for driver and front passenger and
ambient light.
oXenon Headlights for high and low beam,
incl. daytime driving lights, four light rings and
automatic headlight range control, for better
road illumination at night or in bad weather.
oAdaptive Headlights with variable light
distribution incl. turning lights, only in
conjunction with Xenon Headlights: for optimal
and prompt illumination of bends through
electro-mechanical control ofthe moveable lamps
as soon as the driver turns the steering wheel.
oHigh-beam assistant helps the driver at
night by automatically switching from high to
low beam for oncoming traffic and cars ahead,
or when street lighting is sufficient.
oFog lights (standard on 125i and 123d,
not available on 135i) integrated in the front
apron ensure extra safety in poor visibility.
Option includes exterior mirror heating and
screen washer nozzles (heated on 125i, 135i
and 123d).
sRear lights in LEDtechnology: each taillight
is made up of three separate high-performance
LED lights, accentuating the tailgate’s dynamic
feel.
sDynamic Braking Lights help vehicles
travelling behind you to evaluate your braking
more accurately. In the event of an emergency
stop, the illuminated area of the brake lights
is increased, so traffic following behind can
tell in an instant the difference between a
light tap on the brake pedal and a hard stop –
for increased driving safety.
oTrailer tow hitch with removable ball head
(not available on 135i).
oRain sensor including automatic
driving lights control: Once activated, the
rain sensor will automatically switch on the
windscreen wipers when it begins to rain,
adjusting the wiper frequency in line with
rainfall intensity. The integrated automatic
driving lights control activates the low beam
automatically at dusk and in tunnels.

sRear windscreen is heated, made of scratch
and dirt-resistant glass and guarantees a clear
view at all times.
oWind deflector allows for comfortable
top-down driving without draughts and
turbulence around the shoulders and neck.
The wind deflector is easy to use and can be
folded and stowed away in the luggage
compartment to save space.
sDoor sill finishers with BMW lettering and
polished chrome inlay (only on 125i, 135i and
123d).

sExterior mirrors, painted in body colour, with
electric adjustment, aspheric (heated on125i,

oShadow Line, high-gloss includes the
surrounds of the A-pillar, window recess

oChrome Line Exterior includes chrome

Steptronic (here with non-smoker package)
with Adaptive Transmission Management
(ATM). This transmission performs very fast,
flawless gearshifts for maximum dynamic
performance (not for the 135i).
oSports leather steering wheel with
multifunction buttons (diameter 369 mm),
chrome clasp, three spokes, with multifunction
capability for remote control of radio/telephone
(optional).
oSteering wheel heating for sports leather
steering wheel with multifunction buttons:
just press a button to quickly warm up the rim –
particularly pleasant in winter.

s7-speed sports automatic transmission
with double clutch and gearshift paddles on
the steering wheel for particularlyfast gear
changes without any disruption to tractive force;
it ensures maximum driving dynamics and
efficient fuel consumption (available for the 135i).
oM leather steering wheel (diameter 369 mm),
three spokes, optionally with multifunction
buttons for remote control of radio/telephone.
An M gear lever knob with the M
emblem
is included should you opt for the manual
transmission. The handbrake lever handle
and boot are made of Walknappa leather.
s6-speed manual transmission for a
particularly sporty drive. Immensely smooth,
with perfect ratios and precise, short-throw
gearshifts. The addition of a sixth gear means
that the gear ratios are more closely spaced,
enabling you to make even more individual use
of the engine’s power.
oStorage compartment package
comprises cupholders, luggage nets on the
backs of front seats, 12-V socket, storage net
on the right of the luggage compartment, two
tensioning straps on the luggage compartment
floor as well as a storage tray on top of the
instrument panel (not available in conjunction
with a navigation system*).

sOptimum Shift Indicator lets you know
when it is more economical to drive in another
gear. It indicates when to shift up or down
and adapts these recommendations to your
driving style. While accelerating, for example,
you would receive a shift recommendation
that would save fuel (for models with 6-speed
manual transmission).

about average speed, average and current
consumption, range and outside temperature.
It also features an acoustic ice warning system.
sInstrument panel with analogue instruments,
red backlit speedometer and rev counter. Plus

for front and rear or rear only, facilitates parking
and manoeuvring in confined spaces, giving
you an acoustic signal for the distance between
your car and an obstacle – and in conjunction

sFront apron: under the BMW double kidney-shaped grille with chrome kidney slats, the central
air intake is a draw for the eye as well. The two side air intakes serve to cool the brakes and give the
front a particularly athletic profile. Two side flaps accentuate the vehicle’s broad front.
sDouble tailpipe: the exhaust system with
two black, chrome-plated tailpipes is standard
on the 135i.
sDashboard: the 135i features special
scaling with extra display ranges.
Exclusively forthe BMW 135i: the standard
package comes with specifically calibrated
M Sports suspension and sporty throttle
character. In addition, the 135i boasts sports
seats, Black high-gloss interior trim as well
as 18-inch light-alloy wheels star-spoke style
264 with mixed runflat tyres. The special front
apron adds to the sporty character while the
M Aerodynamics package – comprising side
skirts and a powerful rear apron with integrated
diffuser – adds even more striking lines.
sHigh-performance brakes, painted, with
BMW lettering – inner-vented, 17-inch front
and rear brake discs. They ensure very short
braking distances and high endurance.
oGearshift paddles on the sports steering
wheel (in conjunction with 7-speed sports

allow operation of the radio, CD player and

Rear air dam with integrated diffuser for an
even more powerful stance. The special side
