2 How Does Silk-expertWork?
Silk-expert is_designed to help bre~kthe cycl~ of hair _growth . Light energyis transferred through the skin's
surface and 1s absorbed by melanin present in the hair shaft. The absorbed li ght energyis converted to
heat energy (below the surface of the skin), which disables the hair follicle. Treated hairs naturallyfall out
over the course of a few days to 1-2 weeks.

What to Expect
Immediately post treatment , you should not see anysignificant side effectsfrom treatment (Refer to
section 4 for more information on side effects).
In the first few weeks following the initial treatments, you will still see some hairs growing. These are li kely
to be hairs that were missed during treatment i.e. theywere lying dormant and notin their growth phase
(Anagen) during treatment, when IPL is most effective.
Around 6 weeks into the 12 weektreatment program you should see a reduction in hair growth. However,
many hairs may still not have been treated in their growth phase. It is important to continue the weekly
treatments.
After the 12 week program, you should see a significant reduction in hairswithin the treated area. Any
remaining hairs should be finer and lighterin color .Continued monthly treatments, or treatments as
required,should maintain the reduction in unwanted hair.
3 Important Safety Information
3.1 Contraindications
DO NOT use the device if you have very dark skin. The Skin Tone s~nsors loca~ed near
the output window of the device will determine the tone of y~ur sk~n. If the Skin Tone
sensors determine your skin is too dark for safe use, operation will be prevented.

5 Benefits

Aclinical trial was performed to assess both the safetyand efficacy of the device. The keyfeatures of the
clinical trial were: . .
• All treatmentswere performed by non-medicallytrained operators ata singlelocation usingdevices
identical to theone provided inthispackage;
• All subjectswere required to complete questionnaires related to theirgeneral healthand those who
could notbe treated, e.g. thosewhohad one or more of thecontraindications aslisted inSection 3 of
thisUser Manual were excluded. In addition, all subjectswere required to provide InformedConsentas
perinternational clinical trial requirements;
• Atotal of 53 female subjects, aged between 19and 45 years old, commenced the trial;
• Three subjects left the trial during the treatment period for personal reasons. No subjects left the tr ial
due to problems associated with theuse of the device;
• Each subjectreceived 12 weeklytreatments to theirchosen bodylocation. A typical treatment consisted
ofshaving the sitethen applying the device following the same processasoutlined in Sec tion 7, Step 3
ofthis usermanual;
• Hair countswereused to measure the change in the amount of hair6 months after the last treatment
and 12 months after the last treatment. The hairs in thetreatmentsiteswere counted via high resoluti on
photographyand the differencein haircountswas calculated as a percentage change;
• When used as directed, the clinical trial participants showed on average 44% less hair6 months after
their lasttreatment and 36% lesshair12 monthsaftertheirlasttreatment when compared to hair counts
taken before treatment (see table below). Actual results didvaryfrom person to person.

6 Intended Use of Silk-expert

skin and will prevent use ifyour skin tone is too dark.
HAIR COLOR
lhe device is intended for use on naturally black or brown hair. It may not be as effective on white, grey,
blonde or red hair.
7 HowToUse
WARNING: Follow each step in the treatment processensuring you complete all aspects of each step
before progressing to the next.
Step 1: Preparing the treatment area
Remove all visible hairon the skin before using the device. You mayuse your preferred hair removal
method. Ensure there is no hair remaining above the surface of the skin asthis can damagethe removable
front (9) and maycause treatment discomfort. Remove any cosmetics, lotionsand cream from the area
you wish to treat. Cleanse the treatmentarea and patdry.
Step 2: Doing a Test Patch
Before yourfirst treatment on each new bodyarea, we RECOMMEND you test your skin (in that area) for
reactions.
lhe patch test area should be approximately 3 cm x 2 cm in size (equivalent to 2 flashes applied to the skin
side by side). Follow Step 3 to treatthe area.
Wait 24 hoursfollowing the patch test, to ensure your skin is suitable for treatment and there is no adverse
reaction to the light energy. Ifthere is no reaction after 24 hours, you may treat the area around the test
patch. lhe 'patch tested area' should not be re-treated for at least one week.
Step 3: Treating with Silk-expert
a) First assemble the powersupply (7) by clicking-in the pin insert (8). (lhe power supply is provided with a
release button (7a) for removing the pin insert.) The LED power bars (3) will light up once and a fan will
start running. This meansthe device is in READY mode. During operation, the devicewill heat up slightly.
b) Press the treatmentwindow ( 1) firmly againstthe area to be treated ensuring both skin tone sensors (2)
are in contact with skin. lhe device will notoperate if only one skin tone sensor is in contactwith skin.
Once both skin tone sensors measure a valid skin tone, the pre-set output power is displayed on the
LED Power Bars (3) located on both sides of the device.
lhe skin tone sensors measure the color of your skin and setthe correct level of output power needed.
Ifyour skin is too dark for treatmentwith Silk-expert, the skin tone sensors will detect this and prevent
the unitfrom operating.
RED lights will be shown in the Power Bar ifyour skin is too dark.
Ifa valid skin tone is detected, the Power Bars will illuminate WHITE.

c) Press the treatment button (5). lhe devicewill flash and a warm sensation should be felt.
If you find the treatment or slightly too painful, you may choose "Gentle mode" with reduced power
output (read chapter 8, "Gentle mode").

between flashes. This will take between 1-2seconds.

Gliding mode Precision mode
1. Place the treatment window (1) firmly on your skin, ensuring both skin sensors (2) have skin contact.
Power bars (3) show white LEDs.
2. Press and hold the treatment button (5).
The device will begin to flash.
3. Move the deviceslowlyand continuously from the
bottom to the top of the treatment area to avoid
missing areas. Make sure to always keep full skin
contact so that the device flashes continuously.
Once you have completed your first gliding stroke, lift
the device off the treatment area. Repeat steps 1to
3to treat the next adjacent area in a parallel stroke.
2. Press and instantlyrelease the treatment
button (5). The devicewill emit a flash.
3. Lift off the device and place it onto the next
adjacent spot to betreated. Wait for the
powerbars to show white LEDs. Then press
and release the treatmentbutton.
Continue treatment spot by spot until you have
completed the entire area you wish to treat.
Make sure to avoid missed areas by placing the treatment window directly next to the previously
treated spot without leaving any space betweentreated areas.
If you feel intense pain, stop treatmentimmediatelyand consultyour physician beforeusing the deviceagain.
Gentle mode
For sensitive areas ( or first time users) you may set thedevic~ to _Gentle_ mod~ by pressin~ the ~nt1e
mode button (4). The Gentle mode indicator will illuminate to indicate It 1s activated. You will notice less
Power Barindicators illuminatedwhen applied · to yourskin. To de-~ctiv~teGentle f!lode, simplypr~ss the
button (4) again. The Gentle mode indicatorwill go off and the device ~111 return to its sta~dard settings.
Gentle mode reduces the light intensity. More treatments may~e required to see the desired effects .
Gentle mode is also recommended when doing the monthlymaintenance treatments.
Standby mode
After 10 minutes of inactivity, the device will revert to standby mode (whichwill be indicated by one blinking
hght on the powerindicatorbars). To return to READY mode, pressanykey or remove/replacethe polN8f cord.
Sleep mode
If the device is inutes it will enter sleep mode (low power state).

9 Cleaning, Maintenance and Storage
After treatment, always switch off Silk-expert by unplugging the power supply from the device and the
electrical outlet.
After use, the handset, the skin tone sensors (2) and the treatment window (1) should be inspected for
damage and wiped down with a dry, lint free cloth. If any marks or black spots are seen, then it is best to
clean them off straight away after treatment.
NEVER usewater or other cleaning fluids, asthesecan damage the deviceleading to a potential safetyhazard.
WARNING: The glass filter(10) can get hot during use. DO NOT touch or clean the filter for at least
5 minutes after use to allow it to cool down.
To ensure maximum performance of your Silk-expert, it is particularly important to keep the removable
front and reflector (9) free from dirt, hair or other debris.
To aid in the cleaning of this part, the front section (9) is removable. Once removed, it can be cleanedwith
a slightly damp cloth. Always ensure the removable front is completely dry before re-fitting to the device.
Grip the sides of the front section (9) and pull away from the device. Once cleaned, replace it ensuring it is
fully inserted. It will only fit one way. Do not force it.
Store the device in a cool, dry place. Make sure that the treatment window and skin tone sensorsare
protected from damage.
Regularly check the device (including cords) for visible signs of damage. In case of damage or cracks,
stop using the device.
10 Travelling with the Device
The power supply unit is universal and will work with all commonly encountered mains supplies. Providing
you have a suitable adaptor for the mains power cable plug, the device will operate as normal.
