1 OPErATIng InSTruCTIOn
Theoperatinginstructionsdescribetheentirelifecycleofthedevice.
Keep these instructions in a location which is easily accessible
toeveryuserandmaketheseinstructionsavailabletoeverynew
ownerofthedevice.
Operating instruction contain important information.
▶Readtheoperatinginstructionscarefullyandfollowthesafety
instructionsinparticular.
▶Operatinginstructionsmustbeavailabletoeachuser.
▶Theliabilityandwarrantyforthedevicearevoidiftheoperating
instructionsarenotfollowed.

Authorized use
2 AuThOrIzEd uSE
The solenoid coil AC08 is used to activate valves which control
the gaseous or liquid media.
▶Usethedeviceforitsintendedpurposeonly.Non-intendeduse
ofthedevicemaybedangeroustopeople,nearbyequipment
andtheenvironment.
▶A valve controlled by the solenoid coil AC08 may be used
solelyforthemediaspeciedinthedatasheetandforusein
explosiongroupIICcategory2Gand/orexplosiongroupIIIC
category2G,andtemperatureclassT4.
▶Thesolenoidcoilmaybeusedonlyfortheapplicationsdes-
ignatedinchapter„6Applicationconditionsofthedevices“
andinconjunctionwiththird-partydevicesandcomponents
recommendedandauthorizedbyBürkert.
▶ThetypeofprotectionisencapsulationEx“m”forcoilswith
cableconnection.
▶Correcttransportation,correctstorageaswellascorrect
installation,commissioning,operationandmaintenanceare
essentialforreliableandproblem-freeoperation.
▶Whenusingthedevice,observethepermitteddata,operating
conditionsandapplicationconditions.Thisinformationcanbe
foundinthecontractualdocuments,theoperatinginstructions
andonthetypelabel.
2.1 Explosion protection approval
The explosion protection approval is only valid if you use the
modules and components authorized by Bürkert, as described
in these operating instructions. The solenoid coil AC08 may be
usedonlyincombinationwiththevalvetypesreleasedbyBürkert,
otherwisetheexplosionprotectionapprovalwillbeterminated.If
youmakeunauthorizedchangestothesystem,themodulesor
components,theexplosionprotectionapprovalwillalsobevoid.

3 BASIC SAfETy InSTruCTIOnS
Thesesafetyinstructionsdonotconsideranycontingenciesorinci-
dentswhichoccurduringinstallation,operationandmaintenance.
Theoperatorisresponsibleforobservingthelocation-specicsafety
regulations,alsowithreferencetothepersonnel.
Danger – high pressure.
▶Beforelooseningthelines andvalves, turn othe pressure
andventthelines.
Risk of electric shock.
▶Beforereachingintothedevice,switchothepowersupply
andsecuretopreventreactivation!
▶Observeapplicableaccidentpreventionandsafetyregulations
forelectricalequipment!

through hot device surface.
Thesolenoidcoilcangetveryhotduringlong-termoperation.
▶Keepthedevice awayfromhighly ammable substances and
media.

Intheeventofasuddendischargefromelectrostaticallycharged
devicesorindividuals,thereisariskofanexplosioninthepotentially
explosiveatmosphere.
▶Takesuitablemeasurestoensurethatnoelectrostaticdischarges
canbuildupinthepotentiallyexplosiveatmosphere.
▶Do not use the device in areas where there are powerful
charge-generatingprocesses,mechanicalreamingandcutting
processes,thesprayingofelectrons(e.g.inthevicinityofelectro-
staticcoatingequipment)aswellaspneumaticallyconveyeddust.
▶Clean the device surface by gently wiping it with a damp or
antistaticclothonly.
To avoid the risk of explosion, the following must be observed for
operation in potentially explosive atmosphere:
▶Information on the temperature class, ambient temperature,
degreeofprotectionandvoltageonthetypelabelforpotentially
explosiveatmosphere.
▶Installation,operationandmaintenancemayonlybeperformed
byqualiedspecialists.
▶The applicable safety regulations (including national regula-
tions)aswellasgeneraltechnicalstandardsmustbeobserved
duringsetupandoperation.
▶Repairsmayonlybeperformedbythemanufacturer.
▶The device must not be exposed to any mechanical and/or
thermalloadswhichexceedthelimitsspeciedintheoperating
instructions.

General information
General hazardous situations.
Topreventinjury,ensure:
▶Securesystem/equipmentagainstunintentionalactivation.
▶Observethedirectionofowduringinstallation.
▶Afteraninterruptioninthepowersupplyorpneumaticsupply,
ensure that the process is restarted in a dened or controlled
manner.
▶Don’tusethedeviceasaleverwhenscrewingthevalveinto
theline.

5.2 Function
ThesolenoidcoiltypeAC08isanelectromagneticvalveactuator
forvariousBürkertvalves.Asaso-calledtop-mountedcoil,itis
separated100%fromthevalve.Thevalveisaclosedsystemeven
ifthecoilisremoved.
Alternatingcurrentordirectcurrentcontrolispossible.
Thecoilisplacedoverthecoreguidetubeofthevalveandattached
withanut.Itispositivelylockedtopreventturningrelativetothe
valve.
Theelectricalconnectioncableexitsperpendiculartothecoilaxis.
Thecableispermanentlyintegratedinthecoil.Theunionnutisnot
designedtoberemoved.
Anelectricalcontactismadebetweenthemetalcomponentsofthe
valveandthecoilattheinterfacebetweenthecoilandthevalve.All
metalcomponentsmustbegroundedviatheprotectiveconductor
intheconnectioncable.

6.1 Special conditions

Intheeventofasuddendischargefromelectrostaticallycharged
devicesorindividuals,thereisariskofanexplosioninthepotentially
explosiveatmosphere.
▶Takesuitablemeasurestoensurethatnoelectrostaticdischarges
canbuildupinthepotentiallyexplosiveatmosphere.
▶Do not use the device in areas where there are powerful
charge-generating processes, mechanical reaming and cut-
tingprocesses,thesprayingofelectrons(e.g.inthevicinity
ofelectrostaticcoatingequipment)aswellaspneumatically
conveyeddust.
▶Cleanthedevicesurfacebygentlywipingitwithadampor
antistaticclothonly.
6.2 Operating conditions
Thevalveprovidesacoolingfunctionforthesolenoidcoil.The
solenoidcoilmaynotbeoperatedwithoutavalve.Thevalve
bodymustmeetthefollowingrequirements:

Alargervalvebodywithahigherheat-dissipatingcapabilitycan

securetopreventreactivation.
▶Observeapplicableaccidentpreventionandsafetyregulations
forelectricalequipment.
Thereisariskofelectricshockifthereisnoelectricalcontact
betweenthemetalpartsofthevalveandtheprotectiveconductor
ofthecoil.
▶Alwaysconnecttheprotectiveconductor.
▶Testforcontinuitybetweentheprotectiveconductorofthecoil
andthecoreguidetubeofthevalve.
Theconnectioncableisencapsulatedwiththesolenoid
coilTypeAC08andcannotberemoved.
Observetheindicatedvoltageaccordingtothetypelabel.

▶Sealtheconnectionlinescarefully.
→Separatetheelectricalconnections.
→Separatethevalvebodyfromthepipeline.
NOTE
Malfunctions due to dirt.
▶RemovetheoldPTFEtapefromtheconnectionsduring
re-installs.
▶Taperesiduemustnotgetintothepipeline.

▶Onlyadequatelytrainedpersonnelmaystartuptheequipment
orthedevice.
Before starting up the device, ensure that:
→thedevicehasbeeninstalledcorrectly,
→theconnectionhasbeenmadeproperly,
→thedeviceisnotdamaged,
→allscrewshavebeentightened.

10.2 Troubleshooting
Ifmalfunctionsoccur,ensurethat:
→thedevicehasbeeninstalledcorrectly,
→theconnectionhasbeenmadeproperly,
→thedeviceisnotdamaged,
→thevoltageandpressurehavebeenswitchedon,
→thepipelinesarefree,
→allscrewshavebeentightened.

Transportation, storage, disposal

Transport damages.
Inadequatelyprotectedequipmentmaybedamagedduring
transport.
▶Duringtransportationprotectthedeviceagainstwetanddirt
inshock-resistantpackaging.
▶Avoidexceedinganddroppingbelowtheallowablestorage
temperature.
Incorrect storage may damage the device.
